Description

David and Emily are two friends who happen to care a lot about a lot of things. Some of those things are the same. But some of those things… are different. And there’s the podcast! On each episode, they will try to make the other care about something. Hopefully, you care too. Why would you be here otherwise?

15. Beards & Crassus

2024-06-0701:48:33

Season 2!!! David and Emily are back (with an extra long episode) to talk about all the hottest topics of 2023: Chance the Rapper, Shrek 2, LOST, the weather, beards, and Marcus Licinius Crassus. What is the appropriate age at which to have a mustache? Emily has a strong opinion about it. You wouldn’t want to miss that, would you?
Have you ever wanted to time-travel to right after everyone* got vaccines? Well, now you can! David and Emily host their very successful friend Ian to talk about historical journalists, historical distillers, and a bunch of stuff going on in our lives that is now like “oh yeah, I forgot that was going on in my life at all.” Disregard any biographical details you hear in this episode because they are definitely out of date, and just enjoy the learning and friendship!

Happy Easter! Our podcast feed rises anew to deliver you a fresh new episode, recorded over Zoom, with the long-awaited guest producer Mike French. Your move, Selene van der Walt. David tells us about something that is definitely not a bear, and Emily takes advantage of Mike’s presence to give a pop quiz on twin films. Enjoy this episode, and as always follow us on social media at @gimmejacobmoore.
12. Coy-Wolves & Lake House

12. Coy-Wolves & Lake House

2020-04-2501:27:16

What???? We’re back like cartoon dinosaurs baby, and we have a LOT of chitchat in this episode to make up for some lost time. David talks about coy-wolves, which may or may not be a new species, and Emily spoils the entirety of the 2006 romantic fantasy film The Lake House. Take a listen!
Cast your mind back to March 13, 2019. Colton Underwood is the Bachelor. The college admissions scandal is all over the news. Emily still lives in Austin. No one has ever heard of coronavirus. Okay, are you there? GOOD. Now you’re in the right headspace, because…. the long-awaited lost episode of Care for Free is here! It guest-stars Hannah G (who doesn’t have to be the Bachelorette now because she has a great boyfriend), and I honestly think it’s one of our best. David talks current events, which are now not current, and Emily talks her favorite Shakespeare play, which wasn’t current anyway. Enjoy!
10. Theranos & Lakers II

10. Theranos & Lakers II

2019-03-0901:14:03

A new episode?!? This week, Emily tries to make David care about the wild ride of Elizabeth Holmes’s company Theranos and David tries to make Emily care about the Lakers on the other end of their season. This episode features the sultry tones (and borrowed microphone) of the guest producer Caleb Richard aka @crazeepreacher, lightly roasted. Tune in and turn it up!
9. Weezy & Hedy

9. Weezy & Hedy

2018-12-1501:25:02

The Pod Awakens! After another one of our famous hiatuses, David and Emily (and guest producer Hannah Norton) journey back into the sea of caring. David tries to make Emily care about Lil Wayne’s feud with Birdman, and Emily tries to make David care about silver screen star Hedy Lamarr and her 1942 patent. Will they care? Probably! Listen and find out anyway.
This week, Emily tries to make David care about Texas history and David takes Emily on a journey of height. Also, Napoleon was Emperor of the French from 1804 until 1814 and again briefly in 1815 during the Hundred Days. That’s our bad.
7. Lakers & Mincemeat

7. Lakers & Mincemeat

2018-09-1501:25:42

This week, David tries to make Emily care about the Lakers’ over-under and Emily tries to make David care about the corpse of Maj. William Martin. There’s a lot of accents, some Pod Save America talk, football (uuuuuugh), and general good times with guest producer Jacob Moore (@gimmejacobmoore, remember to smash that follow button).
This week, Emily tries to make David care about the Giant Rat of Sumatra and David tries to make Emily care about hammerhead worms. So pleasant!! Lot of accent work on this one too. We're back, babyyyy.
5. Spiz'ikes & Richard II

5. Spiz'ikes & Richard II

2018-05-2101:23:29

David tries to make Emily care about the design of Spiz'ike Jordans, and Emily tries to make David care about her favorite scene in Richard II. There's even more movie talk this week than there was last week, and Emily thinks it's starting to weigh on David. But what else could she do when the one and only Zachy D was in the studio? Also we spoil the end of Gossip Girl on this show. You've been warned.Corrections: Elastigirl is property of DC, not Marvel, so it looks like the merch for Incredibles 2 will probably still say Mrs. Incredible (sigh). At 5'3", Paul Simon is actually four inches shorter than Martin Short. The John in Robin Hood IS John the First (sort of, there was only one), John Lackland, so Emily was right and that Disney lyric doesn't make any sense. Here's a history of Jordans, so you can follow along with the ones David mentions: https://www.footlocker.com/historyofairjordanHere's the Spiz'ike: https://www.flightclub.com/air-jordans/spizikeHere's one of Emily's favorite British Boys, Ben Whishaw, performing Act IV Scene 1 of Richard II (and hitting the Jesus imagery REAL hard): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXGkbBbXVSAThe Malcolm Gladwell podcast debate that David mentioned: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/panoply/revisionist-history/e/54417037The trailer for DESTINATION WEDDING (WOOOOOO): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjXQzRWmb_I
4. Mitchell & GT40

4. Mitchell & GT40

2018-05-1201:15:49

Emily tries to make David care about the Martha Mitchell Effect, and David tries to make Emily care about a car race. Guest producer Doug Coonfield also weighs in. Warning: we all do a little light spoiling of jokes in Infinity War and who's in the cast, plus Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Thor: Ragnarok. This episode is movie-heavy and pretty rambly. Emily hopes y'all are okay with that, because she loved it. Corrections: David has seen Eternal Sunshine. Emily has seen Leroy Jenkins. Ahnold was paid $25 MILLION for Batman & Robin, which was $1 million PER MINUTE OF SCREENTIME. Clooney did make $10 million tho, which is not too shabby. The Truman Show came out in 1998, which is very much not 1989.
3. Joseph & Emma

3. Joseph & Emma

2018-05-0501:07:17

Third time's the charm. David talks about Union General Joseph Hooker, and Emily basically just reads words written by Emma Thompson. Emily and David have a LOT of sidetracks on this one, which Emily believes proves the need for a guest producer in the studio (by which she means Emily's bedroom closet).
2. Naruto & Magikarp

2. Naruto & Magikarp

2018-04-2801:06:45

In our second episode, Emily tries to make David care about a copyright dispute over a wildlife photo and David tries to make Emily care about (protracted siiiiiigh) Pokémon. The inimitable Ashlyn Royall guest-produces! Privately, Emily worries that she may have over-edited the episode, and that calling it "Naruto & Magikarp" will drive away the last vestiges of the CFF audience. Only one way to find out!
1. Wilt & Darnley

1. Wilt & Darnley

2018-04-1958:25

Our first episode! David tries to make Emily care about Wilt Chamberlain's stats and Emily tries to make David care about the second husband of Mary, Queen of Scots. Our inaugural guest producer is Alyssa Boutelle. Also, Emily is still learning editing, so she leaves basically everything in. We are unfiltered, baby! Mostly.
