Lesley is from the UK and is a 61 years old who suffered from obesity most of her life.
Lesley was born a normal healthy weight but by the time she was 3 months old she was overweight and remained so for the whole of her childhood, at 7 years old she was 98 pounds, 45 kgs, at 10 she was 140 pounds, 73.5 kilos.
This weight gain continued till she was 13, she then suffered an acute illness, ulcerative colitis, and her weight loss was fast and severe, down to 98 pounds 45kg
After the illness and being on steroids Lesley’s weight increased rapidly, and low calories diets and bulimia followed.
By the time Lesley was 17 she was completely messed up weight wise, life was either severe food restricting or binging.
Weight came on and was dieted off until her limit was reached when she was 40, Lesley weighed 320 pounds 145 kg, and at 5ft 2” this was a very large unhealthy weight to be.
Needless to say a restrictive diet followed and the weight came off, and stayed off for a few months. But the same old story, the weight came back, in desperation Lesley paid to have a gastric bypass operation, again the weight came off and stayed off for a while but then started creeping back on.
May 17th 2020 Lesley was discussing on a FB group how she needed to loose the 14 pounds she had gained and how disappointed she was with herself that she couldn’t get started on a low calorie diet. This was the first time she heard the phrase Intermittent fasting.
That afternoon she downloaded Delay Dont Deny by Gin Stephens, and she started her fasting lifestyle the very next day.
Lesley reached her goal of 30 pounds loss by November 2020 but has since then lost more weight. She has now lost a total of 47 pounds 21.5kgs and has gone from 170.5 pounds to 123 pounds.
Lesley is now confident her weight is now under control, she has clean fasted from the first day and loves the IF WOL!

As I take a week away in New Zealand on holiday this week, and with sugar being a hot topic of conversation, I thought we would we would take a listen to Netta Gorman, Host of the Life After Sugar Podcast, in this episode 151. Netta and I discuss all things sugar and Intermittent Fasting.I will be back next week with our normal lineup of guests as we head into the holiday season 2025.

Married to my wonderful husband, Terence (Terry), I had a weight issue from around the age of 30; before that, no issues with my weight. I did all the diets known to man, I would lose weight but always put it back on, and I thought I was destined to be overweight! Started fasting in 2016 ( not clean fasting) It wasn’t until I found Graeme Curries Book The Fasting Highway that I jumped straight into clean fasting in 2020 (lockdown) I started on weekdays at 23:1 and on weekends at 18:6 - 16:8Weekends. In this episode, we pay tribute to our very dear community member Karen Cahill, who sadly passed away recently. Karen and I were kindred spirits in many ways, with a lot of similarities in our fasting journeys. Karen lost 170 pounds living an intermittent fasting lifestyle and was a shining light in our community for some years. Karen was always looking to pay it forward and help others. She was truly an amazing person. Karen was living her best life and enjoying all that transformation brings. I will miss her as a good friend and a great member of our Patreon community. This podcast was recorded exclusively for our Patreon community and has not been aired in the mainstream until now. RIP Karen, and thank you for everything you did for us all. Special mention of Kaen's family, whom she often spoke about in 1a loving way. We are thinking of you all, Karen, forever in our hearts at The Fasting Highway Community.
Bio update: Since we last spoke, I faced some serious medical challenges and started to get looser with both food choices and fasting hours. I took this as a “wake-up call” and am now focusing much more on what I choose to eat, and have reached my lowest weight (still not quite where I want to be ultimately) To join the Patreon Community. I’m Anna, 41 years old, and I live on a small lifestyle property in Ashburton, New Zealand, with my husband Russ and three young children. I’m a part-time primary school teacher and stay-at-home Mum. I grew up in an ‘average’ Kiwi home in the 80s/90s; very few takeaways and ultra-processed foods, but delicious home-cooked meals and a really active lifestyle, playing a lot of sport. I developed early and had a lean, athletic build. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 14 years old, and later with insulin resistance and hypothyroidism. Playing a lot of sport kept my weight in check, but I always felt bigger than my peers. The freedom to eat what I wanted, partying at university and decreased physical activity after moving out of home saw my weight balloon. I’ve done Weight Watchers multiple times over the years and could lose a lot of weight since I’m a rule follower and very good at keeping to a diet! But Icould never get to that point of maintenance. Returning to NZ after living overseas, I met Russ, and started doing CrossFit in 2014 and seeing a nutritionist. I focused on eating nutrient-dense ‘clean’ foods and lost about 20kg. In 2017, Russ and I married, and I was the smallest I’d been in a long time. A year later, we had our son, and 21 months later, our middle daughter. I sadly miscarried our 3rd baby and then had our youngest daughter in 2022. I developed gestational diabetes early on in my last pregnancy and was injecting insulin. This, coupled with a family history of diabetes on both sides of my family, meant I was on track to develop diabetes in the near future. Being pregnant 4 times in 5 years and looking after a young family meant my health took a back seat, and I continued putting on weight. I’ve always enjoyed cooking healthy meals for my family and kept working out, but was fighting a losing battle. I was resigned to the fact I would be plus size for the rest of my life, and was trying to be ok with that, I couldn’t see any other way.On 15 July 2024, I started IF and haven’t looked back, losing over 35kg in just over a year and am now heading towards the land of maintenance. Hello. I am Larry Zydek, and I recently celebrated my 70th birthday. For most of those 70 years, I have had a weight problem. When I was a child, I was overweight (fat) to the point that on special occasions, my mother had to have suits custom-made. What an embarrassment. Husky was the word for fat clothes, as most people know. When I turned 11, a doctor prescribed what I think was an amphetamine. I, too, for a short period, along with some diet modification, lost weight and kept it off reasonably well until my mid-twenties. Then, marriage, children, and work, without vigilance over food and drink, resulted in weight gain. Each time I peaked I tried to lose the weight. I tried Weight Watchers, Atkins, low-fat, low-carb, and low-calorie diets, as well as those by Dean Ornish and Michael Thurmond, among others. Each of them worked and then did not work. I supplemented my exercise routine with activities such as aerobics, weightlifting, stair climbing, walking, and biking. Exercise, while beneficial for your health, does not significantly contribute to weight loss or weight control. In my mid-forties, I developed a thyroid condition called Hashimoto’s disease. It is an autoimmune disease that, if uncontrolled, can kill you, and I was close to that at the time. It is easily controlled via hormone replacement, but I blamed it for my inability to lose weight year after year. My lifelong struggle to lose and maintain weight and to be healthier was finally resolved through fasting. I always tried to be health-conscious as I read about diets, food preparation, and practised healthful routines, but I had bad eating and drinking habits I developed through life. While I tried fasting in the past, it was not the CleanFast, and it was not a daily routine. I can say that now I practice a daily 22-hour fast with a 2-hour eating window, which I modify as necessary on special days or occasions. I still have the thyroid issue, but have currently lost 70 pounds on IF since October 1, 2024. It is a testament to the process, regardless of the particular disease. My blood work results are all excellent, and my physical endurance has shown significant improvement. I am not sure if my story will help anyone, but I feel that sharing it may encourage someone on the fence or feeling apprehensive about fasting, or give some encouragement to someone having a difficult time. At 55, Bobbi embodies a remarkable journey of health transformation. A Mom to three adults and now a Grandma of two, Bobbi was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in October 2021. She swiftly took charge, initiating significant changes to her diet and embracing strength training. The following January, a pivotal meeting with Keith McDonald introduced her to intermittent fasting, which further accelerated her progress and marked the start of a beautiful relationship. By March 2023, Bobbi had achieved a milestone goal: her diabetes was controlled solely through diet, strength training, and fasting, allowing her to discontinue all medication. This dedication also led to an impressive 60-pound weight loss.Today, Bobbi not only maintains the weight she was at 24 years old but also continues to prioritise her well-being. She works with a personal trainer two to three times a week and leads a very active lifestyle. Though still considered prediabetic, her commitment to health remains unwavering; she recently underwent skin removal surgery as part of her ongoing journey. To join the Patreon Community. I'm a wife of 49 years, mother of two adult children, and Grammy to two wonderful girls. I've worked for my company for 45 years and plan to retire within the next two years. I love to walk, hike, travel, read and be as active and healthy as possible. I never had to worry about my weight until my early 30s. I was the skinny kid. My dad always told me I had toothpick legs. I could eat anything and everything without gaining weight. When I got married at the age of 22, I weighed 122 pounds, which was the highest weight I'd ever achieved. When I got pregnant with my daughter eight years later, I weighed 127 lbs. I gained 22 lbs. during my pregnancy and lost it in a short amount of time. As I entered my 30s, weight suddenly became an issue, and within about five years, I'd gained up to 160 pounds. I joined Weight Watchers at work group and got down to 125 lbs., and looked gaunt and unhealthy. But as is often the case, WW was not sustainable. And I got back up to where I was when I originally joined WW.I then tried so many other "diets" and landed around 140 lbs. In 2021, I had a total knee replacement and gained 15 lbs. due to inactivity and comfort eating. I tried WW again, lost 5 lbs. and then the scale wouldn't budge any further. My daughter had suggested IF, but the word "fasting" was frightening to me. Finally, I was so desperate that I said I'd give it a try. January 26, 2022, was the day I started IF, and I will never live my life any differently. I lost the other 10 lbs. plus another 15 and have settled into an IF lifestyle. To join the Patreon Community. Keith McDonald, making his third appearance on The Fasting Highway, began his fasting journey in 2018, leading to an impressive 100-pound weight loss. After a significant setback in 2021 due to sciatica and herniated discs, he spent nearly three years rebuilding his health. Now, Keith champions strength training three to four times a week, flexible 14-18 hour fasting, and a focus on whole foods. His current philosophy prioritises sustainable fat loss and overall well-being over just chasing numbers. To join the Patreon Community. Jo Howard is a dedicated advocate for intermittent fasting, health, and lifelong learning. At 67, she has transformed her health and lifestyle through fasting, proving that change is possible at any stage of life. Her struggles with weight began in childhood, leading her to experiment with numerous diets over the years, including Weight Watchers, calorie counting, and meal replacement shakes. While she often succeeded in losing weight, long-term maintenance remained elusive. As a dedicated educator and school principal, she devoted much of her life to her career and family, often placing her well-being last.In 2021, a serious back injury became a turning point. Diagnosed with prolapsed discs, degenerative discs and arthritis, she realised that her weight was exacerbating her condition. Determined to regain her mobility and improve her health, she discovered intermittent fasting through Gin Stephens’ books and The Fasting Highway podcast. Inspired, she embraced fasting and quickly transitioned from a 16:8 schedule to 20:4, leading to a dramatic health transformation. She successfully lost over 30 kg, reducing her weight from 90 kg to a stable 59-60.5 kg, and has maintained it for over two years. Within months, her cholesterol levels dropped from 9 to 4.7, her chronic back pain disappeared, and she regained energy and confidence. Now retired, she enjoys leading senior fitness classes, travelling, and inspiring others to take control of their health. She is passionate about education and encourages others to explore fasting through books, podcasts, and supportive communities. Her story is a powerful reminder that with the right mindset, knowledge, and consistency, anyone can reclaim their health and vitality at any ageTo join the Patreon Community. Karen is 65 years old and has tried justabout every diet you can think of – The Scarsdale Diet, Atkins and keto diets, Weight Watchers, Noom, the Cabbage Soup, Healthy Inspirations, grapefruit diet, Whole30, Slim-Fast, South Beach, Green Smoothie Diet, Nutrisystem, hCG – if you’ve heard of it, Karen probably tried it! Some of these diets brought Karen temporarysuccess, and others caused her to gain weight or slow her metabolism. None of them were sustainable, and the weightalways crept back. One day in the summer of 2020, Karen was perusing Facebook and saw a photo of her sister-in-law, Dedra Campbell. Karen thought Dedra had posted a “Throwback Thursday” photo, as her sister-in-law looked young, slim, and glowing. Karen was shocked to learn the photo was recent, so she immediately called her sister-in-law to find out what she did to lose weight and seemingly age backwards. Dedra told her the secret was IntermittentFasting brought up negative thoughts and feelings in Karen. In Karen’s mind, fasting = deprivation and hunger. However, with her sister-in-law’s encouragement, she listened to the basics of the program and bought the book she recommended, “Fast.Feast.Repeat.” by Gin Stephens. Karen read the book and said she would try it for one day to see how it went. On August 13, 2020, Karen did a clean 18/6 fast, found it to be effortless, and the rest, as they say, is history. Karen was invited to Graeme’s group, The Fasting Highway, by Dedra after another IF guru closed her Facebook group and moved to another platform. Karen had been fasting for not quite a year when she joined The Fasting Highway. Karen had only lost 10 pounds by this time, but was encouraged and inspired by Graeme, his book, and fellow group members to stay the course and trust the process. Karen realised that her weight loss journey was her own, and she could not compare herself to others. Karen is 5’5” and her highest weight ever was 208 pounds. She could not bend over to tie her shoes at that weight and was always out of breath. She also suffered from sleep apnea. Karen’s IF starting weight was 175.4 pounds, and she set her goal weight at 160 pounds (because she didn’t think that at herage, being post-menopausal, having T2D, and being insulin resistant, she could get below that weight). However,on July 3, 2023, Karen weighed 149 pounds, a weight she hadn’t seen in almost 20 years. Best thing – there wasno struggle to get there! Yes, it did take almost 3 years to lose the weight, but the point is – she lost it withintermittent fasting when nothing else worked! It’s now been almost 5 years since Karen started intermittent fasting, and her current weight is 142 pounds. She sometimes gets as low as 138 pounds, bouncing between that number and 142 pounds. Karen went from a size 12 (US) to wearing sizes 4 and 6. Intermittent fasting gave Karen theconfidence that she would never have to lose weight again – and for the first time in years, she doesn’t have 5 different clothing sizes in her closet. She donated all her “big” clothes to charity, knowing she’d never need them again. Another personal win is that Karen decidedto embrace her greys and, as a result, cut all the hair colour out. She would never have had theconfidence to do this at her higher weights! To join the Patreon Community. Atmy highest weight (after IVF and the baby's) | was 130kg (290lbs) and at my lowest 55kg (121lbs). IF Starting Date: 3rd October 2022SW: 91.6kg (201lbs)CW: 64kg (141lbs)First Time Lost: 27kg (60lbs) Second Time Loss: 14kg (30lbs)Height: 160cm (5’3”)I lost 27kg (60lbs) from 3rd October 2022 till September 2023, doing clean IF, then slowly with mostly 4 4-hour daily windows and some slack food choices like casual drinking wine, as well as a couple of big life moments full of stress Iregained 14kg (30lbs) of my weight by 26 August 2024, when my weight was 78kg (171lbs). Strict OMAD (1 hour mostly a day), alcohol free, and cardio exercise 5 times a week till mid March 2025, got my weight back to 70kg (154lbs). I felt the weight lost the second time around was a lot harder and ahell of a lot slower. My weight loss got stuck around 70kg (154lbs) for over 7 weeks, so I reluctantly started ADF for the first time on 24th March 2025., Wednesday, Friday, with OMAD Sundays, I lost 6kg (13lbs) in 4 weeks. I never thought I could or wanted to do ADF, but I like it now. I’ve always cleaned fasted and don’t do the 500-calorie down day option. So here I am, 2 years and six ish months into my IF lifestyle, back to 64kg (141lbs) in my second round of maintenance, alcohol free, working on muscle tone as well as cardio, and myself physically, emotionally and spiritually daily 💫
My name is Roxi Ruiz, and I am from McAllen, TX, which is located right on the Mexican/US border. My city has been voted the most obese city for 8 years in a row. I am the Mom of one amazing daughter. I am a Speech Language Pathologist who specialises in feeding disorders. I became an Intermittent fast in February of 2019 after being diagnosed with prediabetes and NAFLD. Both sides of my family have generational metabolic disorders. I found fasting when a coworker asked me to read Delay, Don’t Deny by Gin Stephens so she could get my opinion on fasting. I had never heard of IF before this. I started my first fast that evening. I have lost and maintained a 30-pound weight loss over 6 years, but more importantly, I have reversed my prediabetes and no longer have a fatty liver. I am one of two administrators for Gin Stephens’s Community. We are an online fasting community that is found off Facebook. When not working, I create content for my Instagram and TikTok accounts.
