Madhushala Podcast on YouTube - Now with some unseen and rare pictures of Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan!Last few episodes, we have discussed women in Bachchan's life and in this connection, we spoke ‘Champa’, his friend Karkal's wife, ‘Shyama’, poet's first wife who came into his life like ‘Joy’, and ‘Iris’ which remained a mirage for the poet. These were the days when Champa and then Shyama's death and one tragedy after another had left him so traumatized. In such a situation, an incident at his poetry-meet in Bareilly shook the poet to the core - the suicide of a lover of his poetry! This episode also talks about an english poet A.E. We are discussing women in Bachchan’s life in these episodes. We spoke about Bachchan’s first wife “Shyama” in the previous episode and how she shaped poet’s life. In this episode, we are talking about “Iris”, who remained a mirage, a mystery in Bachchan’s life. In the previous episode, we spoke about “Shanti path” in Madhushala, shared a beautiful piece from Rahi Masoom Raza's book Topi Shukla, some things about one carefree Hindi poet Pandey Bechan Sharma ‘Ugra’, and a story about the English poet Shelly and Keats. With this episode, we are starting a series about the women in Bachchan’s life and how they influenced the life and poetry of our Kaviraj. पिछले अंक में कुछ किस्से सुनाए थे मधुशाला के शान्ति पाठ के, एक किस्सा राही मासूम रज़ा की कहानी टोपी शुक्ला से, कुछ बातें हिंदी के अक्खड़ कवि उग्र जी के बारे में, और एक कहानी अंग्रेज़ी कवि शैली और कीट्स की। आज से बात शुरू करते हैं बच्चन बाबू के जीवन में आने वाली स्त्रियों की और किस तरह उन्होंने हमारे कविराज के जीवन और उनकी कविताओं को प्रभावित किया। Bachchan's poems in this episode: जिसकी कंचन की काया थी - जिसमें सब सुख की छाया थी, उसे मिला देना पड़ता है - पल-भर में मिट्टी के कण में! निर्ममता भी है जीवन में! मत देख, नज़र लग जा‌एगी - यह चिड़ियों के सुखधाम, सखे! - है यह पतझड़ की शाम सखे। नीलम से पल्लव टूट गए, मरकत-से साथी छूट गए - अटके फिर भी दो पीत पात जीवन-डाली को थाम सखे! है यह पतझड़ की शाम सखे। उठ पड़ा तूफान, देखो, मैं नहीं हैरान, देखो, एक झंझावात भीषण मैं हृदय में से चुका हूँ। मूल्य अब मैं दे चुका हूँ। नहीं खोजने जाता मरहम - होकर अपने प्रति अति निर्मम उर के घावों को आँसू के खारे जल से नहलाता हूँ। ऐसे मैं मन बहलाता हूँ। यदि इन अधरों से दो बातें प्रेम भरी करती हाला, यदि इन खाली हाथों का जी पल भर बहलाता प्याला, हानि बता, जग, तेरी क्या है, व्यर्थ मुझे बदनाम न कर, मेरे टूटे दिल का है बस एक खिलौना मधुशाला।।७७। Dinkar's Urvashi: और त्रिया जो अबल, मात्र आंसू, केवल करुणा है, वही बैठ सम्पूर्ण सृष्टि के महा मूल निस्तल में छिगुनी पर धारे समुद्र को - ऊंचा किए हुए है Raskhan's savaiya: सेष, गनेस, महेस, दिनेस, सुरेसहु जाहि निरंतर गावैं। जाहि अनादि अनंत अखंड अछेद अभेद सुबेद बतावैं। नारद से सुक ब्‍यास रहैं पचि हारे तऊ पुनि पार न पावैं। ताहि अहीर की छोहरियाँ छछिया भरि छाछ पै नाच नचावैं -------------------- Thanks for listening :-) Do write a review and send your comments. In this, we explore the soul and essence of Hindi poetry, poet's life-stories, philosophy and a bit of India's history. In the previous episode, we talked about the stages of life in Madhushala, especially the significance of youth, with a reference from Shivaji Savant’s famous book ‘Mrityunjay’. In the previous episode, we had talked about the importance of dissatisfaction in life and told why Bachchan had to leave his well-organized life and go for military training, and some poems related to the same. Today’s episode talks about the inherent dissatisfaction of man and why our poet had to undergo military training at one time. In the previous episode, we spoke about Bachchan’s meeting with Sarojini Naidu and introduction with Nehru – Indira family. There was also a poetic introduction of Mr Bachchan. In the ⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠previous episode⁠⁠⁠⁠⁠, we spoke about poet’s unquenched thirst and about his work as a special officer of Hindi at the Ministry of External Affairs (Videsh Mantralaya). In this episode, a poem about why people worry much. In the ⁠previous episode⁠, we spoke about the insults that Bachchan has to endure during his Pioneer Press days and how later in his life, he took a sort of revenge on society for such old insults. We also read two poems by Maithilisharan Gupt and Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar’. In today’s episode, some more discussion on fate and Niyati, about the first important decision Bachchan made about his life, and some lines from Dinkar's Rashmirathi and Maithili Sharan Gupt.
