Today we’re going to talk today about a simple, first step to scaling which is small group coaching. My guest is Brynn Barale who empowers breast cancer survivors to lose weight without dieting so they can live a kick ass life after cancer. Last year, Brynn launched her first power group, which is the way we describe small groups inside The Hive. While Brynn loved working with her small group, she realized that she needs a retention plan to enroll her members into the next offer - whether that offer is to continue in the group or move into a different container. So, Brynn and I got to work designing the shape of her group coaching container and outlining a plan to invite current clients, power group members and even former clients into it. This was one of those coaching conversations where the client leaves feeling so enlivened and clear about their vision that they’re moved to tears. I love coaching sessions like this because they show us when we’re all aligned. Let me highlight the steps Brynn and I took to turn her dream of a group coaching program into a clear vision she can act on. Step One: Understand what your clients need. Step Two: Build your program around your client’s feedback understanding what your own boundaries might be. Step Three: Remember that less is more. People join a community to experience belonging more than anything else. Step Four: Invite folks into your program. This can be a full blown launch, or it could be as simple as personally inviting a handful of current or former clients to get the ball rolling. Okay, now that you’ve heard the high level overview, let’s get into the nitty gritty of designing a smart, simple and aligned retention program to serve your clients long term. Building a business requires hard work and anybody saying otherwise is not giving you the full picture. Our guest Tara Rhodes came into today’s episode wondering what happens when you realize that the business you’re building isn’t the business you want anymore. Tara is committed to helping quiet rebels who feel stuck in the middle be willing to look at their stuff so they can figure out who they want to be in the world. And over the last year and a bit, Tara has realized that a traditional coaching model isn’t the model for her anymore. So, the two of us had to rethink what it means to build a business you really love. And here’s the cool part…in the beginning, Tara really did not think that she could create a business model that lights her up while still being profitable. But when we tapped into the experience she wants to have inside her business and designed a model from that place, she began to really believe that it is possible to build a business she loves. We started by simply asking the question “what is it you truly love?” And that opened the doors to a whole new vision for Tara and her business. The end result? No more coaching. Instead, Tara plans to launch a podcast to build a subscription community that feels a lot like summer camp. You’ll understand why as you listen in. Key Takeaways 1. Follow Your Passion 2. Innovative Revenue Models 3. Lean Into What You Love 4. Explore Creative Revenue Models 5. What’s that fear? What if I won’t be able to deliver? What if I can’t actually help this client the way they want me to? That was the fear holding today’s guest back from actively selling. Betsy Seybolt is a coach who believes that mindset is everything and she works to help you find time for yourself and stop your negative thinking. And even though she's a pro at helping others overcome negative thinking, she had some of her own worries to work through during our conversation. You see, though Betsy has a ton of life experience, her coaching business is pretty new and she hasn’t worked with paying clients yet. So a part of Betsy worried that she would not be able to serve her clients fully once they hired her. And it’s really difficult to sell coaching if you don’t quite believe in it. But Betsy has so much evidence in her life to prove that she is capable of holding a coaching container that can indeed deliver. She just needed a new perspective, which is exactly what we worked toward during our conversation. I want to tell that you that about two weeks after we recorded, our friend Betsy signed a client. So something definitely shifted from our conversation. And I hope you experience a shift as well. If you ever worry you don’t have what it takes, this episode is for you.   Timestamps & Key Topics [03:19] Betsy 's discomfort with selling [03:58] Difference between marketing and selling [05:07] Betsy's fear concerning sales [06:46] Reframing "doubt" to "inexperience" [07:37] Betsy’s tactical concerns with selling [09:45] A template for managing capacity and delivering value [12:06] Power of narration in client and sales conversations [15:28] How to handle objections [17:42] How to sustain momentum in booking sales calls [20:01] An approach to transparency & setting expectations [21:59] Setting micro goals to cultivate sales skills [24:08] How to maintain consistency in sales calls [25:42] How to make practice sales calls realistic [28:03] How to find joy in the sales process [29:04] Centering the client during the sales process [31:04] Difference between between politeness and kindness [32:50] Working outside your comfort zone   CONNECT WITH BETSY: INSTAGRAM: @coachbetsyseybolt WEBSITE: BetsySeybolt.com

My guest today is Briana Wyatt who guides ambitious professionals to live more bravely, EMBOLDENED by self-trust, self-love and sacred power. So, the two of us talked through a process she can use to take a break while ensuring her business still has a pulse. Here’s the process we went through together: 1. Understand the two seasons every business flows between 2. Paint a clear picture of what a sabbatical looks + feels like 3. Identify any obstacles that might prevent that picture from becoming reality 4. Clarify success metrics to manage the obstacles 5. Sometimes taking a firm stance feels easy and inspiring. Other times… it’s tricky.   1. What is it I really want to say? 2. Will people even get it? 3. And if they do, will they get it enough to want to hire me?   Those were the questions my guest, Angela Beeching, brought to the conversation today. Angela helps musicians get more of their best work out into the world so they can become the artists they are meant to be. She’s worked as a coach for many years and over that time, her confidence, her methodology, and her motivation has evolved. But Angela’s marketing message hasn’t completely kept up with that evolution. So we put our heads together today to help Angela lean into her stance and identify the message underneath Angela’s message. If you’d like to bring a little more bravery to your marketing, this episode is for you.   Key Takeaways 1. Align Your Marketing with Your Core Truth 2. Narrate Your Journey 3. Now, Matt plans to leverage a career full of experience to help leaders relate to people as humans instead of as simply resources. Matt came to the conversation feeling conflicted and murky and he felt stuck. The two of us started by just questioning the idea that if you are indeed values driven, every aspect of your work must be filled to the brim with purpose. From there, we just explored Matt’s new niche and addressed each fear he had around it. Then, we wrapped things up by identifying three clear steps Matt can take to complete some marketing research and start bringing in new clients. Matt showed up with so much authenticity and care throughout the episode. You’ll hear it right away. And as coaches, there’s nothing better than working with an open hearted, truly coachable client, which was 100% Matt. Angela believes that the fastest yet most sustainable way to make it easy for your people to discover you, pay you, and rave about you is by automating your marketing, sales, and client management process. Dreamy, right? That’s why Angela is passionate about educating online business owners on easy-to-implement automated marketing, sales, and client management workflows, so you can run a sustainable and hands-off business. But Angela understands that many of us waste way too much time and money on apps that we simply don’t need. Today we’re going to talk about scholarships. Let's draw a clear distinction between discounts and scholarships. A while back, inside the Hive, we had a member share that someone requested a scholarship into her program. After a little negotiation back and forth, this coach said yes to the client’s scholarship request. But when we really looked at the circumstance, this client didn’t earn a scholarship, they just got a discount, which is not equitable or sustainable. There's nothing wrong with offering discounts, but don’t confuse them with scholarships. A scholarship is something that is awarded on the basis of merit, achievement or other qualification. Scholarships require structure, clear criteria, intention and an equitable process to evaluate the winners. We need to be thoughtful about when, why and to whom we decide to grant scholarships. So that sets the stage for today’s episode. Dani Abernathy is back and this time, she’s ready to begin the process of rolling out an equitable, sustainable scholarship program. Now, I am not a DEIB coach, but I have given a lot of thought to the idea of scholarships and you’ll hear me ask Dani some essential Getting Started questions to help her begin to evaluate the shape of her scholarship program. So, if you have ever made the common mistake of slapping a discount on your offer and calling it a scholarship or maybe you want to develop an aligned scholarship program in your own business, then this episode is for you. We are wrapping up our special list building series today. And I know I’ve been talking a lot about how list building provides every coach and course creator with more options. But it’s also the thing that helps you move beyond relying on referrals to bring in private clients. Which is why today, we’re going to craft a list building strategy with private client attraction in mind. My guest, Michelle Cox, teaches people the learnable skills to embrace their secret dream of writing a book so that they can go from feeling like an imposter with a silly book idea to being an author who did the hard work and wrote a damn good book. Michelle has a very clear vision about where she wants to take her business. That vision looks like:➡️8-10 private clients➡️1-2 VIP Days each month➡️1 small group and maybe a membership down the road. This vision is totally possible for Michelle and for you. But only if you make list building your top priority. Why? Because 1-3% of your list will end up becoming customers. So, if you can’t find customers, it’s probably a sign that list building has fallen to the wayside. Today, Michelle and I craft a simple plan of (boring) habits she can repeat, every week, in order to become more visible and build her list. None of it is complicated or fancy, but it is essential because if Michelle wants to work with 16 clients, she needs a list of 1600 subscribers. So, as you listen along, think about your client-getting goal. If your list building efforts don’t match that number, then this episode is for you. Key Takeaways: Clarity Leads to Growth Focus on Strategy Over Tactics Engage Your Audience Consistency is Key Focus on List Building Play the Long Game   CONNECT WITH MICHELLE:INSTAGRAM: @michellemeltoncox_bookcoachWEBSITE: www.bookcoachingworks.comCONNECT WITH ME:INSTAGRAM: @dallastraversbizmentor

So this is the 4th episode in our special Greatest Hits List Building series. This week and next, we’re going to focus on strategy, so buckle up my friend. My guest is Amy Goldmacher. Amy helps aspiring nonfiction authors go from book idea, to proposal, to draft to getting to a publishable book. Her clients are often experts who just need help taking all of their expertise and putting it into a book. Amy has a super fun lead magnet. It’s a bookmark that walks would-be writers through 4-ways to nail down the title of their book. What’s been missing for Amy is a concrete and repeatable strategy to actually get her lead magnet out in the world. Not only to build her list, but test the effectiveness of her lead magnet marketing, opt-in page conversion, and how well the lead magnet leads to paying clients. So, Amy and I walk through 4 simple and repeatable ways she can start promoting her lead magnet and get more aspiring authors on her list. Get ready to take some notes because I know you can try out at least one of the strategies we discuss in this episode. Welcome to the 3rd of our 5 episode series dedicated to helping you build your list. List building is crucial for a whole host of reasons. But for me, #1 is the fact that it’s your big mailing list that gives you options: Options to: Scale when you feel like it Or run a flash sale for a quick cash infusion Or host retreats It also makes lead magnet swaps easier and it just makes you feel like you’re doing this coaching thing. I’ve hand picked some of my favorite episodes dedicated to list building and lead magnets to help make your list building life easier. My guest today is Aissa Thalia. She came into the episode knowing that she needs to update her lead magnet to match her target audience. Aissa is a happiness expert who helps actors that haven’t booked work in a while feel great, happy and confident regardless of their booking status. And she didn’t want just any lead magnet. She wanted something that stands out and feels like, what I call, experiential marketing. That's the kind of marketing that gives folks a true and accurate taste of what it’s like to work with you. So, some sort of pdf download wasn’t going to cut it. After some brainstorming and troubleshooting, Aissa and I came up with a fantastic lead magnet idea that checks all the boxes ✅ It has a clear promise✅ It’s easy to implement✅It’s unique to Aissa✅And… it relies on experiential marketing I’m not going to tell you what it is… you’ll have to listen in to find out. Before you dive in, be sure to have a notebook handy because you’ll want to take yourself through the same process Aissa and I follow so you can check all the boxes on your lead magnet too. Do you ever worry that your email list hates getting emails? It’s a valid question, I suppose. Yet, everywhere we turn, we hear how important list building is if you ever want to expand beyond 1:1 coaching. In fact, our last episode was about this very thing. But what if your target audience just doesn’t dig email? Maybe they're the texting kind or just too darn busy to pay much attention to their inbox. That was the case for Valerie Recore in this throwback episode which is part of our special list building series this month. Valerie helps overwhelmed and over-committed moms stop feeling pulled in too many directions and start spending quality time with their families and on themselves. Valerie’s got a lead magnet she likes, so that’s taken care of. But what she wasn’t totally sure about was whether or not emails are the best way to nurture the list she’s building. Today, you’re going to hear us solve Valerie’s email engagement problem by layering in text messaging so that the busy moms on her list can more easily engage with her incredible content. I have a feeling that our conversation just might spark some fresh ideas for you. List building — It’s something that a lot of coaches put on the back burner because they’re overwhelmed or unsure about the best strategies to implement. And yet, list building is the crucial step we all must embrace if you ever want to expand beyond 1:1 coaching… And I don’t want you to wait until you’re ready to launch a course before you start to build your list. List building takes some time, so set yourself up for success NOW by making it a priority in your business. To help you feel more confident around this, we are bringing back five of our best episodes dedicated to list building and lead magnets. Up first is Nic Frick who helps new moms find the right fit job they actually want so that they can add more joy and ease to their lives. Nic came into our conversation feeling like lead magnets are gross and was unsure about how to deliver a lead magnet that’s truly valuable without being overwhelming. So, first we worked to design the right lead magnet for her business model and her values (AND aligns with what her dream clients actually NEEDS first). And here’s the cool thing… After we got really clear about the intention and design of her lead magnet, most of Nic’s icky feelings about lead magnets just evaporated. If you find yourself staring at a blank screen and getting overwhelmed anytime you sit down to design your lead magnet, this episode is a must listen. Today's guest is Jolea Payne who holds healing space for Black women and women of color leading social change. On episode 155 of this show, Jolea and I mapped out a plan for her membership program. Since then, the membership is officially up and running and now that Jolea has left her day job to be the liberated leader she truly is, it's time to grow her membership enrollment. One thing Jolea's audience really craves is thought partnership and community. So, the two of us decided to take inspiration from two places to build out a marketing plan. The first inspiration? Tupperware parties. You know… bring a friend, we'll have snacks, hang out and buy some stuff for the kitchen together. The second inspiration? Fundraising thermostats we've all seen in the grocery store when the local high school is raising money to fund new computers for the science lab. Jolea and I put those two ideas together to come up with the Bring a Friend and Help Me Reach My Goal Campaign she'll launch to attract 45 incredible women of color leading social change into her even more incredible membership program. What I love about this brainstorm is how low-tech and inspiring it is. Key Takeaways: Understanding Membership Dynamics: Recognize the motivations behind why people join memberships, courses, or masterminds, and tailor your approach accordingly to foster community, learning, or proximity. Creating Urgency with Generosity: Utilize legitimate urgency by offering time-bound incentives, such as "bring a friend" offers, to drive engagement and conversions without compromising value. Simplicity in Systems: Streamline processes and messaging to minimize complexity and maximize efficiency, ensuring a seamless experience for both members and organizers. Collective Engagement: Leverage the power of collective energy and shared deadlines to encourage group participation and decision-making, fostering a sense of camaraderie and support. Craft Clear Invitations: Ensure clarity and manage expectations in your membership program invitations to attract the right audience. Transparency in Enrollment: Be transparent about enrollment processes, including payment methods and cancellation policies, to build trust with potential members. Engagement Strategies: Utilize gamification and goal-setting in your marketing to encourage engagement and support from your audience. Today's guest is Amy Behimer who helps people with autoimmune disease take control of their health so they can feel better today and worry less about tomorrow. Amy is such an incredible example of a coach who always strives to center her clients. And over the last little while she's been tweaking her offers and her pricing in order to discover what will serve her audience the best while still feeding her business. So, Amy came into our session with a pretty clear idea about the changes she wanted to make to bring back a course and restructure her membership. And the two of us just put our heads together to help her feel confident about the changes she wants to put in place. Amy realized a couple of things about her audience: A course with a beginning, a middle and an end is the perfect foundation her clients need to then grow and move forward in a less structured way. A membership with a one time fee is the best container to help folks move forward with enough support yet no pressure. So, absorbing her course into her membership made perfect sense for Amy. Now, whether you're still working with 1:1 clients or you've got all sorts of offerings, what I invite you to plug into is how we both centered the client as we determined the best changes Amy could make in her business. So, as you listen along, please ask yourself, when I center my client, what if any changes should I make to the structure of my business? Key Takeaways Client-Centered Evolution: Amy's journey reflects the importance of adapting offerings based on client needs and feedback. Integration of Programs: Integrating the Autoimmune Academy into the membership program provides structure and enhances client experience. Continuous Improvement: Embracing a mindset of continuous improvement fosters excellence and client satisfaction. Infrastructure for Growth: Establishing infrastructure for scalability and ongoing improvement supports long-term success. 1-on-1 Connection: Prioritize establishing a personal connection with potential clients through pre-enrollment calls to understand their needs better. Longer Payment Plans: Consider offering longer payment plans to increase business profitability and attract more clients, but be mindful of potential defaults.
