Welcome to another episode of "Design for the Creative Mind" with your host, Michelle Lynne,  Today, we've got a jam-packed episode with not one, not two, but three amazing guests joining us. Let's give a warm welcome to Monica and Fabian Rivas from Enliven Interiors, based out of vibrant Las Vegas, Nevada. These two have been making waves in the design world, being featured in top publications like AD, Apartment Therapy, and Homes and Gardens. And that's just scratching the surface of their incredible journey. We're also thrilled to have Fernando Duque, the co-founder and CEO of Duke Renders, with us today. Fernando is a marketing genius, and you might have seen him at various conferences and events spreading his knowledge.   Monica and Fabian's journey is a testament to passion and dedication. With Monica's background in interior design and Fabian's expertise in business and marketing, they make a dynamic duo. Their journey began in school, where they crossed paths while pursuing their respective passions. Fast forward to today, and they've built a thriving business together, combining their skills to create stunning spaces. But how did they connect with Fernando? Well, it all started with a podcast. Fabian came across Fernando's work and was immediately drawn to his innovative marketing strategies. They hit it off and realized they shared a vision for their businesses. Soon enough, they joined forces, and the rest is history. What makes Monica and Fabian's partnership unique is their ability to complement each other's strengths. While Monica thrives in the creative realm, Fabian brings his business acumen to the table. Together, they've created a winning formula that fuels their success. And let's not forget about the importance of renderings in their projects. With Monica's background in architectural gaming and their focus on hospitality and commercial spaces, renderings are a crucial part of their process. That's where Fernando and his team come in. Their collaboration has elevated the quality of their projects, providing clients with stunning visuals that bring their visions to life. But what about residential projects? While renderings are a staple for their hospitality and commercial work, they're gradually incorporating them into their residential projects as well. With Monica's talent for hand sketches, they've found a perfect balance between traditional and digital techniques. One of the keys to Monica and Fabian's success is their commitment to excellence. They've built their reputation on delivering top-notch service, and their clients have taken notice. With a focus on word-of-mouth referrals, they've organically grown their business and established themselves as industry leaders. At the heart of it all is their passion for creating meaningful experiences for their clients. Whether it's designing a luxury hotel or transforming a family home, Monica and Fabian pour their hearts into every project, ensuring that each space reflects the unique vision of their clients. And let's not forget about the importance of teamwork. With Lillian rounding out their team, they've created a supportive environment where creativity thrives. Lillian brings her own expertise to the table, contributing to their collective success.  Monica, Fabian, and Fernando are a force to be reckoned with in the design world. Their passion, talent, and dedication shine through in everything they do, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for them.   Fernando is the co-founder of Duke Renders, your go-to for stunning 3D visualizations.    Duke Renders specializes in 100% photorealistic 3D rendering services, offering "do it for you" solutions perfect for interior designers seeking realistic and efficient visualizations.    They handle the entire rendering process, from concept to completion, reducing back and forth with clients, ensuring faster turnarounds, and guaranteeing you, your client and your contractors are on the same page so you can focus on what you do best – creating beautiful spaces.   Podcast Website and Resources: Get more info about our year-long mentorship and coaching program: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/business-bakery     Text UPDATES to 855-784-8299 for business tips, encouragement, and all our DFCM updates.   SIMPLIFY YOUR MARKETING, SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE. Hello, everyone! In this solo episode of Designed for the Creative Mind, I delve into the concept of having a "word of the year" and how it can guide and influence your personal and professional life.   I started contemplating my word of the year during the fourth quarter and honed in on it around Thanksgiving. Initially, I considered words like "mindful," "clarity," and "wisdom," but none felt quite right. I wanted a word that resonated with me on a deeper level, something that could act as a beacon for decision-making and personal growth.   After much reflection, I landed on the word "align." This word encapsulates my desire to make choices that resonate with how I want to feel and the direction I want my life and business to take. It's about ensuring that my actions are in harmony with my goals, beliefs, and desired feelings.   A recent personal example of putting this word into action was the decision to sell our house. Despite its uniqueness and the memories we've created there, the idea of selling felt aligned with my desire for a simpler, less burdensome living situation.   I encourage you to find your own word of the year, no matter what time of year it is. It's a powerful tool that can provide clarity and direction. And remember, it's okay to change your word if it no longer serves you.   I'd love to hear your word of the year, so feel free to drop me a DM on Instagram at @designedforthecreativemind And if you enjoyed this episode, please consider leaving a review and joining our Facebook group, the Interior Designers Business Launchpad, for more business advice.   Until next time, keep striving for alignment in all that you do. Love ya. Mean it. Welcome back to another episode of Design for the Creative Mind, where we dive into the essentials of running a purposeful and passionate interior design business. I'm your host, Michelle Lin, and today we had the pleasure of speaking with the incredible Jude Charles, a master storyteller and documentary producer for entrepreneurs.   Jude has spent over 18 years crafting compelling narratives for clients like Google and Steve Harvey, and he's here to share his wisdom on the transformative power of storytelling in business. He's also the author of "Dramatic Demonstration," a guide that teaches entrepreneurs how to uncover and leverage their unique stories to grow their businesses.   In our conversation, Jude opened up about the importance of taking intentional breaks for personal reflection and growth. He shared his practice of taking two months off each year since 2013, which has allowed him to avoid burnout and maintain his creativity and passion for his work. Jude emphasized the clarity and insights that come from these periods of rest, which have led to the development of new offerings and a deeper understanding of what truly works in his business.   Jude also discussed the significance of vulnerability and authenticity in connecting with your audience. He believes that while every design is different, the process and the person behind the work should shine through. By sharing personal stories and the lessons learned from them, designers can differentiate themselves in a saturated market and attract clients who resonate with their unique perspective.   We delved into the practical aspects of storytelling, with Jude explaining how to identify the right stories to share and the importance of tying them back to your business values and mission. He also provided insights on how to balance personal sharing with professional boundaries, ensuring that your stories are relevant and impactful without oversharing.   Jude's message is clear: your stories are your superpower. They are what set you apart and make you memorable in the eyes of your clients. By embracing your experiences and sharing them with courage, you can create a deeper connection with your audience and drive your business forward.   So, if you're ready to harness the power of storytelling in your interior design business, make sure to follow Jude and check out his book for a roadmap to success. And remember, it's not just about the work you do; it's about who you are and the stories you tell.   Until next time, keep designing with purpose, efficiency, and passion.   Podcast Website and Resources: Get more info about our year-long mentorship and coaching program: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/business-bakery   Text BESTIE to 855-784-8299 for business tips, encouragement, and all our DFCM updates.   SIMPLIFY YOUR MARKETING, SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE. Hey there, Design for the Creative Mind family! It's your host, Michelle Lynne, back with another episode that's sure to resonate with many of you. Today, we're diving into a topic that can be a thorn in the side of any business owner: negative reviews. But don't worry, I'm here to share some personal stories and strategies on how to handle them with grace and maintain your integrity.   In this episode, I recount a recent encounter with a negative review from a client I worked with nearly a decade ago. Yes, you heard that right—10 years ago! This client, let's call her Karen (because, well, that's her name), decided to take to the Nextdoor app to share her dissatisfaction. Despite the fact that we had resolved the issue privately all those years ago, Karen felt the need to warn others about my business.   I know how it feels to see your business's name dragged through the mud, especially when you've poured your heart and soul into it. But here's the thing—I want to show you how to respond to these situations without fear and without compromising your values. It's all about taking the high road, addressing the issue head-on, and offering to continue the conversation privately if necessary.   I also touch on the importance of having solid processes in place to avoid these kinds of client issues in the first place. That's something I teach in my Interior Design Business Bakery program, which is designed to help you run your business smoothly and avoid the sticky situations that can lead to negative reviews.   So, if you've ever faced a less-than-stellar review or you're worried about getting one in the future, this episode is for you. I'll walk you through how to handle it with your head held high and your business reputation intact. And remember, it's not about living in fear—it's about being prepared and knowing how to navigate the choppy waters of client relations with confidence.   Don't forget to check out the Interior Design Business Bakery for more tips on running a successful and organized design business. And if you've enjoyed this episode, I'd be over the moon if you could leave a positive review wherever you tune in to your podcasts. Let's keep elevating our industry together!   Until next time, live abundantly and be your amazing self. Welcome back to another episode of Design for the Creative Mind, where we dive into the business side of interior design. In this episode I had the pleasure of speaking with Jacqueline Green, the CEO of Behind the Design.   Jacqueline shared her journey from a seasoned commercial interior designer and former college instructor to a marketing and education expert for the design community. She talks about the importance of not just being a great designer but also being a savvy business owner. One key point discussed is the need for consistency in marketing efforts. Jacqueline highlights the challenge that many designers face when they become busy with client work and neglect their marketing efforts.   She stresses the importance of maintaining a consistent presence in front of the target audience to attract new clients and build brand recognition. We chat about email marketing, which she believes is one of the most effective ways to stay in touch with prospects and nurture them until they are ready to make a purchase.   Jacqueline recommends setting up a system for regular email communication, whether it's weekly or at another frequency that works for the business. By providing valuable content and resources through email, designers can establish themselves as experts and build trust with their audience.   Another aspect of marketing discussed in the episode is the power of referrals and strategic partnerships. Jacqueline encourages designers to network and build relationships with contractors, real estate brokers, and other professionals in the industry. These strategic partnerships can lead to referrals and word-of-mouth marketing, which can be highly effective in attracting new clients.   The episode also touches on the importance of having a strong online presence, particularly through a well-designed and informative website. Jacqueline emphasizes that a website serves as the foundation of a designer's business and is often the first point of contact for potential clients. It should reflect the designer's unique brand and personality and provide valuable information to visitors.   Developing systems and processes is crucial for scalability and growth in any business, including interior designers. One of the main reasons why systems and processes are important is that they allow for consistency. Consistency is key in marketing and delivering design services. By having established systems and processes, designers can ensure that they consistently deliver high-quality work and maintain a consistent brand image.   This consistency helps build trust with clients and establishes a strong reputation in the industry. Systems and processes also help streamline operations and increase efficiency. By having clear workflows and standardized procedures, designers can save time and avoid unnecessary mistakes. This allows them to focus on their core tasks and provide better service to their clients. Additionally, having systems in place makes it easier to delegate tasks and train new team members, which is essential for scaling a business. When it comes to personal branding,   Jacqueline highlights the need for designers to differentiate themselves from others in the industry. She encourages designers to showcase their authentic selves and share their design style and expertise with their audience. By doing so, designers can establish a strong personal brand that resonates with their target market. Personal branding and authenticity go hand in hand.   Designers need to understand their unique value proposition and communicate it effectively to their audience. This involves identifying their strengths, passions, and design philosophy and incorporating them into their branding strategy.   Jacqueline's passion for teaching and helping designers grow their businesses was evident throughout our conversation. Her company offers both courses for those who prefer the DIY approach and full marketing services for those ready to outsource.   For more insights and resources from Jacqueline, visit BehindTheDesignCo.com you can also follow her on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacquelinereed/  or on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/behindthedesignco/   Podcast Website and Resources: Get more info about our year-long mentorship and coaching program: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/business-bakery  Text BESTIE to 855-784-8299 for business tips, encouragement, and all our DFCM updates. In this episode of Design for the Creative Mind, I had the pleasure of speaking with Michael Buzinski, affectionately known as Buzz, a US Air Force veteran, serial entrepreneur, international speaker, and best-selling author. Buzz shared his expertise on digital marketing for small businesses, particularly focusing on his innovative Rule of 26, which aims to double a company's revenue by increasing three key performance indicators (KPIs) by 26%.   Buzz explained that during the pandemic, he recognized the need for a simplified marketing approach to help small and micro-businesses, like interior designers, thrive. He identified three KPIs that directly affect revenue: website traffic, conversion rates, and average revenue per client (ARPC). By increasing each of these by 26%, businesses can potentially double their revenue.   We delved into the importance of a well-crafted website that not only showcases a portfolio but also filters out clients who aren't the right fit. Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Design for the Creative Mind podcast! I'm your host, Michelle Lind, and today I'm thrilled to have Jessica Harling with me. Jessica is a passionate ringleader and dynamic problem solver, known for her work with Behind the Design.   We dive into the concept of personal branding, discussing the phrases Jessica uses to summarize her personal brand. Have you considered the phrases that describe you in a heartbeat? It's an interesting perspective that we explore.   The podcast takes a fun turn as we recount how Michelle and Jessica first met at Luann Live in Orlando. Despite a rescheduled podcast interview, their chance encounter was a delightful surprise, emphasizing the small, interconnected nature of the interior design world.   Jessica introduces her company, Behind the Design, which focuses on building dream teams in three key ways: finding top talent, providing training for comfort in roles, and developing processes for long-term success. The discussion delves into recruiting beyond designers, encompassing various roles within the interior design business, from admin positions to project managers.   Jessica shares her journey into the industry, stemming from her family's window covering business in Chicago. As a fourth-generation member, she was involved in operations and developed a passion for paving the path behind her, ensuring others wouldn't face the same struggles.   The conversation turns to the generational gap in the design industry, where Jessica noticed a divide between traditional knowledge and modern tools. This realization fueled her mission to bridge the gap, leading her to consult and eventually establish Behind the Design.   We explore the direct impact of Jessica's work, emphasizing the importance of bringing fresh perspectives into the industry. The discussion touches on the value of diverse skill sets and the need to innovate by incorporating different viewpoints.   We discuss the challenges faced by business owners in the interior design industry, focusing on finding, training, and retaining talent. Jessica's insights shed light on the holistic approach she takes, addressing both people and processes to drive business growth. Join us for this engaging episode as we explore the world of interior design, talent acquisition, and business growth with Jessica Harling from Behind the Design. In this episode I am thrilled to introduce you to Katie Decker Erickson, a powerhouse in the world of interior design and business.  Katie  has not only earned her MBA but has spent nearly two decades building a multi-million dollar interior design firm that operates in over 20 states and she is sharing with us what things have been the most helpful for her as she has built her business.  In our conversation, Katie  shares her fearless approach to starting her design business. She emphasizes the importance of not succumbing to the fear of perfection and how overthinking can lead to analysis paralysis. Drawing from her own experience, Katie  highlights the value of taking action, even if it means starting with just a cardboard box and a few fan decks (which is exactly what she did starting out).  We delve into the challenges of striving for perfection and the wisdom behind the 80/20 rule—acknowledging that achieving 80% success is often enough to call it a win. Katie's perspective on starting before you feel ready is a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and a lesson for anyone hesitating to take the first step. On your journey as a business owner it is important that you learn to embrace imperfection and how a "Done is better than perfect" attitude is key for being able to get things done in business. It’s  important to learn through action, tweaking, and iterating along the way. Everyone starts somewhere, and the key is to get started. We touch on the significance of building a strong team, with Katie crediting her team for the exponential growth of her firm. And talk about how important team, processes and systems are to being a CEO that is not needed in the daily ins and outs of your business. Thank you for tuning into this episode, I hope I encouraged you to take action, build your team and systems and that you are inspired by listening to Katie’s journey and know that it is possible for you with the right mindset and support!    Meet our guest Katie Decker-Erickson: Katie began her career in commercial color consulting as a part-time passion project in 2007. Today, her company, Color Works has grown into a multi-million dollar commercial design company, currently operating in over 20 states nationwide, with a fully remote team of more than a dozen individuals. In this episode I’m diving into a topic that's close to my heart - leadership. Whether you're leading a team or going solo, leadership is the key to unlocking freedom in your interior design business, and how you are as a leader is crucial to your team and business success.  I share my journey, starting from managing tables in a restaurant at 23 to running my own interior design business. Leadership became essential when I realized I couldn't do it all alone.I had to learn the delicate balance of setting high standards for your team while recognizing and celebrating milestones along the way. It's not just about the destination; the journey matters too. Whether you have one team member or ten, treat them as collaborators. It's not about hierarchy; it's about working together towards a common goal. Leading a team requires clear communication, accountability and understanding that everyone thinks differently. Be open to learning from your team while teaching them, creating a reciprocal environment where iron sharpens iron. Being a leader isn't about being perfect; it's about inspiring greatness in those around you. As an entrepreneur, you already have greatness within you. Step into that role and share it with others. Thank you for tuning into this episode, I hope I encouraged you to step fully into the leader you need to be for your team and that you’ve got some great tips to take with you and start implementing right away.    Podcast Website and Resources: Get more info about our year-long mentorship and coaching program: https://www.designedforthecreativemind.com/business-bakery   Text UPDATES to 855-784-8299 for business tips, encouragement, and all our DFCM updates.
