This episode is part of the series From Survivor to Leader, where the other staff members and I are having discussions about all things LTS and what it means to be leading the work in long-term care for survivors of sexual violence. It’s a mix of our own personal experiences, the work our team does, and how those two things impact each other. Our hope is that survivors feel seen and validated and supporters gain a deeper understanding of what this healing process looks like. Our episode today is The Other Side of the Coin. Not surprisingly, a lot of the work we do can feel heavy. But, most people don’t see the other side of it–the beauty of the connections formed and the moments of laughter. Sometimes people even miss that we are full and complete people who have a range of emotions and experiences, including positive, joyful, and exciting things alongside the challenges. Today, we’re talking about that side, the one that many people don’t see, to give a clearer understanding that doing this work doesn’t mean that we never experience the lighter side of life.Visit us at www.louderthansilence.org to get help, find out more info, or to donate.

We came up with this discussion after recording our last episode, When Your Support System Doesn’t Actually Support You. We realized that we needed a longer conversation about what it looked and looks like for us to share our survivor stories.
