CBS San Francisco reports that Asanda Pavlacka is a blind multi-sport athlete. Asanda has competed in gymnastics, swimming, running, and martial arts. And she’s competed in blind cricket. Asanda made it to the USA team to represent America. And she recently participated in the first World Cup Cricket in India. WAFF-TV in Huntsville, Alabama reports that the U.S. Space and Rocket Center just held its Space Camp for Interested Visually Impaired Students. The acronym for the camp is SCIVIS. SCIVIS coordinators worked with staff in modifying Aviation Challenge and Space Camp simulators and activities to accommodate various blind and visually impaired students. WABC-TV in New York is reporting on a new tooth-in-eye surgery. This surgery removes the patient’s tooth, putting a plastic lens into the tooth, and stitching the entire thing into the patient’s eye socket. The tooth-in-eye surgery is an unusual procedure done for patients with severe corneal blindness. KGO-TV in San Francisco, California reported on John Helzer. John was diagnosed with Diabetic Retinopathy in 2018. Having the disease didn’t stop John from adapting to his vision loss and returning to work. Sierra Services for the Blind is a special blind services agency in Nevada City, California. The organization offers services to the blind and visually impaired living in the Foothill communities of Nevada and Placer Counties. What makes Sierra Services unique is that it’s the only nationwide blindness agency serving a rural community exclusively. A special group of students and faculty members at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo are creating a unique device. The device is going to help blind and visually impaired marching band members stay in position. One ACB affiliate establishes the right of low vision people to fully use their vision through available technology, servicers, and aids. This affiliate also provides a system for low vision individuals to express their own preferences, interests, and needs. And the special group educates low vision people, the public, and professionals about the needs, capabilities, and potential of low vision individuals. Monterey County Now reports that The Blind and Visually Impaired Center of Monterey County has opened a new low-vision clinic. The low-vision clinic is located in Salinas, California.
