Description

Blynd Submyshynz is a podcast from the wild minds of Jeff Wilson (KOOK, Glory or Death Records, Heavy San Jose) and JD Norton (Heavy San Jose). We want to expose you to new music in the DIY scene, and hang out with music industry folks we know or want to know better. Every week we'll take submissions from any band who finds our email address (blyndsub@gmail.com)...listen to them for the first time with our special guest and give honest reactions, and talk about things affecting DIY musicians around the globe. Aaaaand I'm back! Busy, busy, busy time of year and this episode will be a quick one...which was sort of the intention in the first place. I went and saw Brutus live last week, you should not miss them if they come to your town. I also dig into Renewer, Bandhood and Oslo Tapes. Ramble on way too long about how those core memories of yours meeting your favorite bands are not core memories of theirs...sorry, they just aren't, and urge you all to go watch the KEXP session with New Age Doom. Plus...
In this second episode of Future Echoes, I dig into Vancouver, BC band, New Age Doom, their newest album, There is No End, featuring Tuvaband, as well as an album they did with Lee Scratch Perry, "...Guide to the Universe". I then take a look back at their drummer's other band, who I fell in love with while living in Vancouver, Limblifter. You should also check out Mounties, if you dig Limblifter. Plus, we cover some news, tours, new album announcements and so much more! I also dig in...
Not really a "welcome back" but more of a "JD got bored and needed to ramble out loud to himself about music". The point of Future Echoes — surprisingly, not an homage to Slomatics, but I do love them — is to have fun remembering great music from the past and digging into the new what next! Showing us old folks that great music is certainly still being made, you just got too busy to search it out, and hopefully introducing you young'uns to bands that influenced who you listen to t...
We're back. Descriptions will be shorter. Maybe we won't have a new episode every week...maybe we will. Scott Evans from Kowloon Walled City and Antisleep Audio was a fantastic guess...kept us on track and off tangents, and has touched (teehee) so many past guests. Enjoy! Oh...and bands...please put credits on your bandcamp. Production, art, whoever should be acknowledged, even if you did it all yourself. Carry on. We had a lovely sit-down this week with Andy Gibbs, guitar player for Thou. Andy is a thoughtful chap and has been in the heavy game for a long time. We talked about how/why Thou has been so prolific, what it was like to record a Tiny Desk concert, working with friends on collaborations, playing festivals, and the true nature of Louisiana sludge (hint, it's not the swamp). Enjoy! Thou https://thou.bandcamp.com/ This Week's Submissions Tropism https://tropism.bandcamp.com/releases CANDLE...
This week we chat with Andrew Bansal...man of all the hats. Record label owner, popular review blog, band manager, tour manager, merch lord, and as it turns out, harmonium player! Andrew wrapped up a coast-to-coast tour with Old Blood earlier this year, and went back out on the road selling merch for Exodus on the Bay Strikes Back! tour. This is a wonderful conversation with a person who journeyed from rural India to LA and ended up chasing a bunch of heavy metal dreams. Enjoy! Metal Assault...
We've talked about him. He listens to every episode. He loves Korn. Ladies and Gentlemen...Sweets himself...Justin Rogers from Disrupt the Paradigm. Justin is a delight, his band just put out a record this spring, and this episode is just straight-up hilarious. She baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! In November of 2020 (episode 10) we had a fantastic chat with Lord Dying bass player, tattoo artist, and general artist/video wiz Alyssa Maucere. It was a blast talking to Alyssa again...we talked about what she's been up to since last we spoke including preparing to record a new Lord Dying record in August, playing shows, making music videos, existing in this insane world, how great ISIS (the band) is...and then she discovers her new favorite band...DURING THIS EPSI...
Not much to say, other than this was a long time coming. Enjoy a wide-ranging conversation with DJ, eye-surgeon, music lover, and owner of Ripple Music and Rebel Wave Records, Todd Severin. Ever wonder what's the perfect music for Pupil Slicing (SEE WHAT WE DID THERE?). Todd lays it down. !!!WIN A JIRM RECORD...SUBSCRIPE TO OUR YOUTUBE AND LEAVE A COMMENT BY FRIDAY MAY 13th AT 6:00PM PACIFIC!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndq9a4MHJIc We really did it this time. 4 hot sauces...each more brutal than the last, including two different versions of the dreaded Da'Bomb. Hang out with Jeff and JD in the backyard...watch their torture as they scorch their mouths (and other parts eventually) and try to listen to hot sauce themed music and the Weedian 420 playlist while trying...
Watch this episode on Youtube and subscribe to our channel...get a look at the KOOK practice room! Video will be up Monday 5/2! https://www.youtube.com/c/blyndsubmyshynz Two years in the making...Jeff finally talked Karl from KOOK into recording...in person (a first). Jeff has been hesitant about self-promotion from the beginning...but here we are...he's in a band with Karl and they make music together and have thoughts about it. We talked about the writing process for the next KOOK record, ...
We have something different this week. We attended our first music festival in over two years, and hung out with the fine gentlemen in Moon Tooth!!! It was weird and glorious...so we decided to record on the way (and back) in the car. We listened to all the bands on the undercard and gave our two cents...most we had never listened to before. Because we recorded in the car...the quality is not quite our usual...especially for the first 30 seconds or so...but HANG IN THERE...it gets better. We ...
We have quite a treat today...all the way from Cardiff Wales, it's Jessica Ball, MWWB's singer and guitar player. We talked about growing up in South Africa and moving back to Wales, studying jazz guitar, how the band was formed, how they got such a cheeky name, and dealing with guitar player Paul's serious health issues. We got some dirt on her other band Eye, and listened to a spectacular set of submissions. MWWB https://mammothweedwizardbastard.bandcamp.com/ https://www.facebook.com/mammo...
He's back! Another round of wild stories, a new segment we'll call "old high school photos with Andy", a Reverse Punisher(TM), a discussion about what NOT to do at soundcheck when you're opening for Sleep, and an absolute boatload of music, including music from Venezuelan band zeta who's van was robbed in San Francisco just days ago...support all the bands you like! Oh, and we're pretty sure this episode is proof that the simulation is real. The Otolith https://desertrecords.bandcamp.com/tra...
He's back! Max joined us again from frosty Sweden to talk about the Northern Lights, not having to work for a few weeks, making a text-based adventure game, whether Ikea is legit, he other band (besides Cavern Deep) Karmanjaka, records, instruments, beer, and who knows what else (you will, once you listen). Plus you fine folks will be the first people to listen to a big chunk of a song of Cavern Deep's yet-to-b-released second album featuring vocals from Susie McMullen from Brume! It's so da...
Adult human stuff happened, but now it's podcast time again (we explain right at the beginning)! This week's guest was a long time coming...the final member of Brume, Drummer Jordan Perkins Lewis. Jordan is a fantastic drummer with crazy eclectic musical taste, a wild upbringing among the blue-collar workers in the movie business, and a badass job producing videos, TV content, and working the scoreboard graphics for the San Francisco Giants. He's also not shy with his opinions, as you will qu...
And now for something completely different. Jeff is a regular consumer of dorky music theory content and weird boomer guitar videos on YouTube. JD is not. Jeff was quite sure JD would hate all of it, and he was right...kinda. Watch JD learn what polyrhythms are in real time...it's fun. Plus we tackle boomer bends, Rick Beato, the mystery that is YouTube's obsession with the Polyphia song GOAT, and much more. Bands! Submit one song (preferably from Bandcamp) to blyndsub@gmail.com and we'll tr...
She came up on the last episode while we were talking to Mike Scheidt, we love Eight Bells, and they have a new album releasing called Legacy of Ruin on February 25th via Prophecy Productions, so we thought what better time have on vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Melynda Jackson, and she was awesome. Melynda is one of the long list of stalwart underground heavy musicians from the bay area who relocated to Portland to escape rising cost of living and decreasing opportunity...we talk about ...
Nothing really needs to be said here. Mike graced us with over 3 hours of his time to tell stories, laugh, listen to music, discuss the stonerrock.com forums, and talk about the almost incomprehensible ascendance of Yob to the metal pantheon. Our main takeaway after talking with Mike? This is a great guy who simply loves music. Also, the discussion of his new classical composition is awesome. Yob's got 4 shows at Saint Vitus in February followed by a west coast tour in March...go see th...
First they submitted music, then they sent us records, then we picked them as part of our best of 2021...ladies and Gentlemen...Dumb Waiter. The most confusing thing to come out of Virginia since (insert clever history joke here). Dolly Pardon. Understanding Bungle late in life. Heavy music in Virgina. Not fitting in with other bands. Screenprinting and weird music videos. Also death to Spotify, Bandcamp FOREVER!!!! Dumb Waiter https://dumbwaiterva.bandcamp.com/album/tsk https://www.facebook...
