Description

"I dare do all that may become a man; Who dares do more is none. I speak all that may become a man, who speaks more is none."

This is the ABSINTHETONGUE Podcast and I'm your host Abhay Singh, bringing you the uncomfortable truth. I will be discussing topics which are usually considered taboo or unsettling for some. However I do feel that it will bring to the table healthy conversations, perhaps unpleasant ones as well - but at least there will be some sort of virtual dialog that I seek with the listeners of this Podcast. Perhaps we will find some answers, perhaps we will find none.

In this episode, I get all to close with my own environment - Zurich - one of the cities in the world having the highest quality of life. Yet we see homeless people on the streets. Why is it so? Where did these people come from? Why isn't the government helping them? I try to address some of these questions and leave it to the audiences especially the listeners in the Zurich metropolitan area to respond, if they are so inclined. I invoke Friedrich Nietzsche in this episode and his quote on the Superman. Der Übermensch. And also delve into Third Reich concentration camps. Uncomfortable yet? Tune in and squirm !  So wags the tongue !
In this episode, I sit down with Brijesh Luthra from the Zurich metropolitan area who is a multifaceted human. He is an author, an educator and a digital transformation change agent - and he teaches at the Faculty of Masters Program at the Swiss Federal Institute  of Technology (ETH), Zurich. We settled for a rather overlooked and uncomfortable truth - the death of curiosity within a human as he or she transforms into an adult. With his astute observations, his flair for the English language, his enviable zest for life and his willingness to seek out and create his own space within the quotidian professional landscape of bankers and cryptocurrency technologists here in Zurich - Brijesh expounds on what we as adults have missed out on most as we grew up - the desire to create something  uniquely human - be it art, music or creative writing. Tune in and get schooled ! So wags the tongue !
In this episode, I sit down with my classmate from college - Amit Gupta, Co-Founder & CEO at Yulu and ex-Co-Founder at InMobi, to discuss a commonly ignored and uncomfortable topic in India - pollution caused by traffic. Amit's company Yulu - has a vision to reduce traffic congestion by providing a scalable, affordable, efficient and clean solution for the first mile, last mile, and short distance commute. He strongly believes that shorter commutes can be made more efficient, affordable and GREEN, thereby ensuring that a healthy environment for current and future generations. So tune in to hear a distinguished alum of IIT Kanpur speak ! So wags the tongue !
In this episode, I sit down with my Dominican brother-in-arms, Rafael Fernández Marmolejos, an avid fan and collector of brutal death metal records, a regular contributor to the NO CLEAN SINGING blogzine and our inhouse Spanish translator of subtitles for our documetary EXTREME NATION that I helped produce along with director and comrade, Roy Dipankar. Raf is one of the members of my very international inner circle of heavy metal aficionados WhatsApp group called Interdeath - which I have discussed briefly in my previous podcasts. This is a long form interview, wherein we dig deep into Raf's roots growing up in Dominican Republic, and migrating to Italy and United States - starting a family, becoming a dad and still sticking to the love of heavy metal in through his 40s. So sit back and relax with your drink of choice and show some love for the third world that worships heavy metal ! So wags the tongue !
In this episode, Aaron and I dive into one more MY DYING BRIDE song and then further into a very uncomfortable truth - CANCER IN CHILDREN. This was a very gruelling time for his daughter and for Aaron as a father to deal with the diagnosis and then plan the way forward. It was particularly hard for me as a father to deal with my son's autism diagnosis, but it was nothing compared to the trauma that Aaron went through. I encourage you to hold onto your heart and listen to his experience. There is a lot to learn from this absolutely daunting endeavor. Thank you Dr. Bob and Candlelighters for helping parents in distress. Much love and support - and thank you Aaron for being the dad we all wish we could. So wags the tongue.
In this episode, we have another shade of the uncomfortable truth - MY DYING BRIDE, an uncomfortable name for a band that sings of death, doom, despair, loss, unrequited love, you know stuff that we all have faced in our darkest moments yet fail to acknowledge. If Lord Byron were alive right now, he would most certainly a fan of the band and their art - art because their music is art. I got a chance to sit down with the singer and lyricist - Aaron recently and spoke about a lot of things. Hence I split the podcast into two parts for the listeners to take in what they want from it in bits and pieces. We talk about MDB's unique style of music, the lament like sound, and of course the lyrics. I picked up 3 of my favorites to discuss what inspired him to write such moving poetry. Yes, people who like to paint all us metalheads as listeners of noise - this is going to yank your chain and force you to reconsider or perhaps not. But some truth bombs were dropped. Brace for cover. So wags the tongue ! Tune in !
Episode 1: I will be talking about my mission statement in this introductory episode - a podcast about the uncomfortable truth, the origin of my Instagram handle, topics which are considered taboo, and those that will keep you at the edge of your seat. They will make you think and question your own convictions. If you seek absolution, then you might find this podcast a therapeutic adventure of sorts. Tune in. Listen up. Things are about to get very very uncomfortable. So wags the tongue.
