This week we dive into S05 E07 of Law and Order, Precious. Matt recaps the episode which features a couple of horse cops, a red herring and a few strange character choices- but the acting by the lead suspect, was compelling to say the least. Then, Enn tells us one of the horrific true stories that this episode was based on - take a deep breath folks it's not an easy one. This week is another big one folks! Enn takes us through the insanely dramatic Family Values (S05 E04 of Law & Order) guest starring a teenage Sarah Paulson! While this episode had multiple sources it drew from, most prominent was the story of  Mary Jo Buttafuoco who was shot by Amy Fisher on her doorstep and survived! The press dubbed her the “Long Island Lolita” and while  Amy and Joey are often the focus of this saga (just how they like it,) the real victims/survivors are the ones left behind to pick up the pieces - Mary Jo and her children.Support the show

This week Matt recaps the very racially insensitive Episode 3 of Law and Order's 5th season titled: Blue Bamboo...OK? The shining bright light of this mess is guest star Laura Linney!! This episode was based on who would be referred to as "Japanese Comfort Women," a terribly oppressive, abusive and inhumane practice that is unfortunately widely unknown to so many of us. Enn also tells us the story of one such woman, Kim Hak-Sun, whose testimony illuminated this dark world to folks, like us, who never knew these of these horrors faced by thousands.Support the show

Enn takes us through this sort of snooze of an episode but don't worry this episode has everything from gourmet ducks to Harriet the Spy! Prepare to hit the courts this week (is that tennis lingo? no?) as we watch S04 E21 of Law and Order: Doubles. We get an invisible tennis match, Detecives Bebop and Rocksteady and a wound that defies all explanation. In episode 19 of Season 4, Sanctuary, Law and Order pulls from multiple sources to concoct an episode that does NO favors to marginalized communities but Kincaid actually provides some valuable insight that aged quite well; We love to see growth! The episode is very reminiscent of The Crown Heights Riots, which we covered in a previous season, but is also based on the story of Rodney King. He may have become a lightning rod for controversy, discourse and social change, but this was never his intent - Enn takes behind the headlines and shines a light on many of the facts of the case that were eclipsed by the narrative at the time, and we discuss the ramifications of how this man's brutal beating was portrayed and "settled."Support the show

Batter Up! That's a sports thing right? This week's episode (S04 E18) is titled Wager and Enn takes us through this baseball-themed episode where we find that there is more to the story than originally meets the eye; Baseball was the name of the game for the show, but the true crime inspo actually involves basketball. Matt covers the murder of James Jordan Sr, whose son Michael Jordan is a legend and has been a household name for decades.  In this weeks wild and crazy episode, S04 E17 of Law and Order Mayhem is covered by Matt. This episode has everything; multiple killers, suspects galore, red herrings, bad acting, shoddy storytelling, and a strong POV from the writers: NYC is craAaAzY and anything could happen! Then Enn tells us ONE of the many major cases this episode was based on - the story of Lorena Bobbit. Most of us who were witness to the coverage of her case got a very one sided narrative, but looking back today with a fresh set of eyes, and ALL of the facts reveals that the press targeted the wrong survivor and overlooked years of torment and abuse.Support the show

Get ready for some Bubble Bobble noises and mushroom cosplay in this zany episode. Afterwards Matt covers the huge case this episode was ripped from; The Unabomber. Ted Kaczynski sent over 12 bombs over the course of almost 20 years and not only damaged property and forever disfigured his survivors but he left them with emotional trauma forever. He also murdered Hugh Scrutton, Thomas J. Mosser, and Gilbert Brent Murray; three men who have become an afterthought too often in this tragic tale. Support the show

Season 4 Ep 15 of Law and Order really takes a dip in the 90s WB writing pond for this week's edition titled, Kids. Honestly it's one of our favorites in a while! Episode 14 of S04 Law and Order is titled Censure, and is very closely related to last week's case covered by Enn - check it out if you haven't already! This week after they recap the episode, Matt chose a case that has always stuck with him - the story of Sam Herr & Juri "Julie" Kibuishi.
