I stumbled upon some awful "influencer gossip" forums and have a few things to say. I've shared openly on my YouTube channel and podcast that I'm an introvert, and it seems like many in my audience identify as introverts as well. In this podcast I considered a few definitions of introversion, which of the traits of "introversion" apply to me, and the theory that introverts tend to talk a lot more about their introversion than extroverts talk about their extroversion... The irony of an introvert talking at length about how introverts talk a lot about introversion is not lost on me. In this episode I covered: "introversion" defined (2:03) the physiological theory around introversion (3:15) you might be an introvert if you have these 8 traits (5:05) why are so many people introverts? (21:14) why it's okay to lose friends & why we drift apart (28:22) To find links to everything we mentioned, and to sign up for weekly podcast shownotes in your inbox, click here. Anyone else hitting the "pandemic wall"? A few things (okay, one MAIN thing) have been helping me to get through it, and I wanted to record a solo episode to talk about the strategies that have been super effective for me lately and give you some ideas for things you can implement yourself. I talked about: how I’ve been doing & feeling (2:02) having a difficult conversation with my dad (6:40) how having an accountability buddy has changed the game for me (13:00) “breaking up” with my therapist (20:22) how YouTube has been impacting my mental health (22:22) my top 3 cognitive distortions (27:04) my results on the dysfunctional attitudes scale (30:01) To find links to everything we mentioned, and to sign up for weekly podcast shownotes in your inbox, click here. Having graduated from high school a year early, Jada Jones had the opportunity to move to New York City on her own to work as a nanny and pursue her acting career... at AGE 17! Solo travel can be a scary (but incredibly rewarding) part of a gap year, and on this episode, Jada and I talked about how you have to dive headfirst into these opportunities, trust the process, and learn as you go. We covered: how & why Jada graduated from her performing arts high school early (1:11) taking the leap and solo traveling to New York City after graduation (4:51) the perfect opportunity to live in NYC (7:31) how Jada attracted the opportunity of a lifetime (12:31) professional development in NYC (16:45) moving back home and changing course due to the pandemic (19:41) how Jada continued to learn outside of college/formal education (21:55) did she have doubts about not going to college? would she consider going to college at any point? (24:31) dealing with doubts about YouTube and content creation (25:47) To find links to everything we mentioned, and to sign up for weekly podcast shownotes in your inbox, click here. So far on her gap year, Noémie Clemons has become a certified yoga teacher and ski instructor, taken a business course, and gotten a job at a bakery... and none of this was in her original gap year plan. Noémie is such a wonderfully positive person and I loved talking to her about how, after her impressive travel plans were shattered by the pandemic, she picked up the pieces to design a new gap year that was just as rewarding and fulfilling. Be sure to check out Gap Year Exploration Month at www.instagram.com/gapyearassociation! We talked about: why Noémie always knew she would take a gap year (1:12) how she planned & her favorite resources (2:08) her biggest inspiration to take a gap year (5:31) how COVID changed her plans (6:51) Noémie's experience working at a bakery (9:44) the impressive list of things she accomplished on her (adjusted) gap year (11:20) how she stayed motivated and structured her days (14:25) why she considers a gap year to be a year "on", not "a year off" dealing with naysayers (19:07) her plans for college and the remainder of her gap year (21:00) New Year's resolutions (26:04) her favorite self-help book lately (26:42) To find links to everything we mentioned, and to sign up for weekly podcast shownotes in your inbox, click here.
