Description

REJECTION most times is the REDIRECTION we need to unlock our truest potential. Life puts us in some uncomfortable and unexpected situations despite our efforts and plans. So, how do we look at failures as opportunities? How do we navigate the unknown and turn disappointments into dreams? We brace, take cues, apply the right mindset and attitude then embrace all that comes.

The Redirection with Terri-Karelle podcast will welcome guests from a wide cross-section- young, old, and in between; male and female; students and professionals; those between jobs/careers, traversing unexpected experiences and still navigating the unknown. Some turned disappointments into dreams.

It’s time to share our stories with a powerful perspective and redefine the terms failure and success. Let’s BRACE, take cues, apply the right mindset and attitude then EMBRACE all that comes.

It is my hope that even one listener leaves inspired.

Surpriseeeee!!!!  From a “likkle” rural place called Woodlands in St Elizabeth, Jamaica - no running water, an outside bathroom, cooking on wood fire and walking miles to school everyday, a little over 4 decades later, Dr Trisha Bailey (@creatingmyownyes ) would become dubbed “the richest Jamaican woman” with a net worth of over $1 billion USD.  She was in the island for approximately 24 hours and I got the immense pleasure to sit with the serial entrepreneur, mentor, maven, maverick, mother, mighty woman of God, philanthropist and now recently minted author of the book “Unbroken” for this very special edition of the ‘Redirection with Terri-Karelle’ podcast. 🥰 ‼️ This special interview is powered by @sagicorja. "BE NUFF!" We see this gentleman all the time, sharply dressed, self confident and helping to shape the minds of youngsters. But Conroy B. Wilson has a bigger story... the story of how he got there. Can't wait to have him in the Redirection Seat. From graduating with just three subjects to becoming the Executive Director of The Ashe Company, I laughed and giggled as he recalled experiences candidly. When you see people thriving, tenacity and drive are usually right there with and in them. !! The intersection of mental health awareness, masculinity, manhood and the military. Let’s talk about PTSD! (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) how it affects your mental state of being and how societal views of masculinity and manhood influence our men’s willingness to not get therapy! It also made me ask, how do we cope with loved ones suffering from PTSD? We often see war movies glorifying heroism and death but what happens to the real people? The real veterans? I truly appreciate the conversation and transparency that Damian Dixon provided and I am even more moved that he is using his platform to encourage our boys and men to get the help, to communicate how they feel and to not be ashamed to cry.   ‼️ You can watch the full interview on my YOUTUBE channel (@terrikarelle) or you can listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible.
For those of us who love entrepreneurial stories, this is one for you! In episode 15 of the 'Redirection with Terri-Karelle' podcast, Janelle Pantry-Coke, Founder and Managing Director of Spaces Jamaica sits in the Redirection seat. From not having a clearly defined career path, to boldly starting a business without any industry knowledge to navigating discrimination, the pandemic and motherhood. Her brand has become one of Kingston's leading retailers of quality furniture and accessories. This is a testament to the spirit of resilience. Janelle didn't have all the answers at any given time. She simply started and then learnt along the way. Talk about trusting the process and trusting yourself. One of the sweetest people I know, hard worker and great employer! Can't wait for you to hear her story! ‼️ You can watch the full interview on my YOUTUBE channel (@terrikarelle) or you can listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible.
Meet Peter Mohan. I, like so many, do not particularly like going into banks but if there is one person who makes going into a bank so positively lovely, it's Peter! When I first met him, didn't even know his role/ title. I just always saw him helping out on the floor, speaking to different customers, always patient and always so kind. His energy was always so warm and inviting. I would learn that he was the branch manager and then I would find out that he started out as a BEARER of the bank! No ego, just a spirit of service Let's dive into this story of humility, trusting the process, developing great work ethics and being kind to all you encounter! The great Peter Mohan is in the Redirection seat today things that.    ‼️ You can watch the full interview on my YOUTUBE channel (@terrikarelle) or you can listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible.
So as usual you always ask me, if this week was so good or if last week was so good, who's coming in next week? Well, I hope you will agree that the person I am about to have in the "Redirection" seat is a vocal powerhouse. She hits a stage, she leaves everything on the line, always bubbly, brilliant, bold and lights up any room. But her life and her journey is a story of resilience and really having to do the work. Who am I talking about? I'm talking about the one and only Nickeishia Barnes!   ‼️ You can watch the full interview on my YOUTUBE channel (@terrikarelle) or you can listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible.
I’m really excited about the episode because this is a different format, different kind of guest, in fact, we will be speaking with Cristophe Phillips who will be the very first deaf graduate from the Edna Manley College for the Visual and Performing Arts. It’s a big deal considering society is still a little bit closed off and still does not realize the power the deaf community has. Toni Aiken will also be on set as sign language interpreter. So if you hear any moments of silence or any period of lull we’re just giving Toni the opportunity to sign and to give Cristophe the opportunity to respond.   ‼️Watch on my YouTube Channel (@terrikarelle) OR Listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible. ‼️ #terrikarelle #yourjamaicangirl #TKRedirection #JamaicanPodcast #podcaster

She has an incredible story from flunking subjects to getting a diagnosis, to becoming an HR professional, to even going further to take the bar. How did she do all of this with so much going on? We cannot wait to speak to the lovely Candice Walker on episode 11 of the 'Redirection with Terri-Karelle' podcast. ‼️Watch on my YouTube Channel (@terrikarelle) OR Listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible. ‼️ #terrikarelle #yourjamaicangirl #TKRedirection #JamaicanPodcast #podcaster
September 10 marks World Suicide Prevention Day and my guest in the 'Redirection Seat' one of the most amazing people I know Lashawndla Bailey-Miller. It's interesting how some of the hardest working, compassionate, giving, never complaining people are the ones who suffer in silence the most. Her customers will tell you about her awesome service and willingness to surpass expectations but many may not know the struggles and the fight to silence the loud voice that says "give up." Many will not know that it was her entrepreneurship journey that saves her life and allows her to INZZPIRE others. She is raw and open and she shares her story in a manner that only she can for episode 10 of the 'Redirection With Terri-Karelle' podcast.   ‼️Watch on my YouTube Channel (@terrikarelle) OR Listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible. ‼️ #terrikarelle #yourjamaicangirl #TKRedirection #JamaicanPodcast #podcaster

This is my youngest guest ever. An articulate and eloquent Youth parliamentarian, youth ambassador, debater, activist and advocate. He is just 17, and what a life he has lived!  Despite abuse, he is grace personified! Resilient, purposeful and a future change maker. Othneil Vashawn Lammie is my guest on Episode 9 of the ‘Redirection With Terri-Karelle’ podcast.  ‼️Watch on my YouTube Channel (@terrikarelle) OR Listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible. ‼️ #terrikarelle #yourjamaicangirl #TKRedirection #JamaicanPodcast #podcaster
A chance encounter with this young lady is the reason why she is going to be in the seat. Born with a particular condition and having to navigate how mean society can be, how mean communities can be and having to realize that the validation she needed was the validation that she would have to find from within. She finds that power, she redirects how she looks at herself and her value, her worth and now she is an Author, Communication Specialist, and she’s so much more. I am so happy to welcome the amazing Kristen McKenzie in the Redirection seat. ‼️Watch on my YouTube Channel (@terrikarelle) OR Listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible. ‼️ #terrikarelle #yourjamaicangirl #TKRedirection #JamaicanPodcast #podcaster
In episode 7 of season 2, I'm joined by the Chief Dream Officer of one of the most loved and recognizable Jamaican luxury brands! You will often see Jamaicans all over the world rocking the Roast by Bresheh products with pride! But how much do we know about the story of the co-creator Randy Makk? He speaks about his humble beginnings, making do with what he had, betting on his idea, having the right people in his corner, not compromising on values no matter how tough life gets and he drops some serious entrepreneurial nuggets! He also shares something that he hasn’t shared before. Let’s get into the Redirection story of the great Randy Makk who is purposefully prepared just like the brand Roast by Bresheh we have come to support and love! If you could imagine the face of a mental health illness, condition or disorder, what would that face look like? Does it have a face?  And if you could imagine the voice of what a mental health advocate, whose voice would it be?  On the 6th episode of the ‘Redirection with Terri-Karelle’ podcast, my next guest’s transparency allows us to remove the stigma around mental health illness.  She will tell you about her journey to self-discovery, her journey to finding out what her disorders are, how she was able to manage it and she offers nuggets that help us understand the struggles of many people who we call our loved ones.  She’s a ‘Hard Gal fi Dead’ - She is Tameka Coley but we call her Tami Tsansai. I am grateful to welcome her in the redirection seat.   ‼️Watch on my YouTube Channel (@terrikarelle) OR Listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible. ‼️ #terrikarelle #yourjamaicangirl #TKRedirection #JamaicanPodcast #podcaster
In Episode 5 of the 'Redirection with Terri-Karelle' podcast, I speak with someone who has been judged by the colour of his skin and the locs he wears. His mom taught him that there is no shame in having an honest day's job, regardless of how menial it might be! She was a street sweeper and now he is an attorney-at-law and the newly minted State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. Honoured to have the conversation with the State Minister, the Honourable Alando Terrelonge. He is unapologetically black and I couldn't have thought of a better conversation for our Independence Day than this! ‼️Watch on my YouTube Channel (@terrikarelle) OR Listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible. ‼️ #terrikarelle #yourjamaicangirl #TKRedirection #JamaicanPodcast #podcaster
My guest is someone who will readily, easily and openly tell you that she is broken and flawed BUT healing. She shares a story with us that she has never shared with anyone else and I am humbled by this. From having a broken childhood to now being the principal of a school where she’s helping to shape and mould the minds of our young people. Tamar McKenzie in the Redirection seat for the very first episode of season 2 of the 'Redirection with Terri-Karelle' podcast. ‼️Watch on my YouTube Channel (@terrikarelle) OR Listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible. ‼️ #terrikarelle #yourjamaicangirl #TKRedirection #JamaicanPodcast #podcaster
From intern to making HISTORY! One defining decision, one moment that she made in her life, sent her on an unexpected journey! She drops nuggets and gems from a personal perspective as well as a professional perspective. She demonstrates that you have the power to self-actualize, but you have to put in the work, you have to be intentional, and she created HISTORY as a result! The incomparable, Yaniece Gentles ACMA sits in the redirection seat on Episode 4 ‼️Watch on my YouTube Channel (@terrikarelle) OR Listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible. ‼️ #terrikarelle #yourjamaicangirl #TKRedirection #JamaicanPodcast #podcaster
Coming next to the Redirection seat is a lovely woman who I had the pleasure of working for and meeting and there was something that she said that was so profound. If you want to find someone who is the epitome of resilience in the face of rejection, if you want to meet someone who has been graceful and gracious in all the redirections of her life, trust me you do not want to miss this interview. Who am I sitting down with? Who am I talking about? The one and only, the lovely Sophronia McKenzie. ‼️Watch on my YouTube Channel (@terrikarelle) OR Listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible. ‼️ #terrikarelle #yourjamaicangirl #TKRedirection #JamaicanPodcast #podcaster
My guest is someone I consider to be theatre royalty, drama royalty, Jamaican royalty! We have seen him in the space as one thing - a comedian/ entertainer, but there are so many layers to him, so much length, depth and breadth. He shares something that shocks me and reminds us that people who are seemingly the strongest and funniest can sometimes feel alone. Owen 'Blakka' Ellis is in the Redirection seat for the second episode season two of the 'Redirection with Terri-Karelle' podcast. ‼️Watch on my YouTube Channel (@terrikarelle) OR Listen across Apple & Google podcasts, Spotify and Audible. ‼️ #terrikarelle #yourjamaicangirl #TKRedirection #JamaicanPodcast #podcaster

If go-getter was a person it would be Toni-Ann Lalor! From being uprooted from Portmore and moving to Manchester, she learns to farm to fuel her dream of becoming an actress.  Her dreams are crushed but life takes her to Japan and the 2019 Miss Universe Jamaica pageant. She even became a recipient of the Prime Minister's Youth Award for Excellence in Youth Development. Toni-Ann embraced all new opportunities but ultimately returned to farming where she now operates her own farm.
