2023-01-0611:39

It's the time of year of colds (can you hear it in my voice), but most importantly, when you reflect on your career and potential pathways for growth. So I wanted to share some advice and questions to consider when thinking about this and explicitly investing in MBAs. I hope you find helpful and happy new year!
Welcome back

Welcome back

2022-10-0713:01

This is the unedited episode. After 6 months plus hiatus, I finally understood the direction that I needed to pick up the mic again and get back to delivering content you will find valuable.Let's discover and learn together and hopefully meet some great experts. Thanks for listening
Intent vs literal translations are the topic of today's podcast where we delve into the world of localization and making technology more accessible and useful (depending on where your users are based globally).
In the episode where we realise Amara can reference Taylor Swift and Eminem in the same discussion, the k pop queen evolves. This episode focused on the need to appreciate. Sometimes the best way to achieve goals is to slow down. Let's stop running at unrealistic speeds; failing fast is not healthy, nor does it work for everyone, so we are here to say goodbye to toxic mantras (especially in the tech space) and ways of working in 2022
Leading into the new year, we take a deep dive into what we have personally learnt about ourselves and where we want to grow in our lives, careers and relationships.New year, new me, new beginnings and learning to let go and grow. Sometimes we outgrow relationships, roles and that's ok. It's all a part of growing and evolving, so let's embrace it going into 2022!! Happy new year queens, we got this.
Sometimes we love to just geek out over our latest gadgets. Come and join us for the party. How are people finding the new Apple M1 processor? I am excited to spend the new few months following in love with my new macbook.Kat is all about her 3D printing endeavours. Do we have any 3D printing fans in the house?
The Great Resignation

The Great Resignation

2021-12-0330:30

Our first viewer requested episode which makes this extra special.Following on from our Instagram Live on 'Inclusive Intelligence', we discuss the revolution coming due to Covid burnout and mass exhaustion. The Great Resignation focuses on how employees demand more be done by organisations to support individuals, to have hybrid working and improved work-life balance.A movement that is holding companies to account and happy to walk away from roles when companies are not meeting these needs.
In the fast-paced world of tech and expectations to always be in survival mode, we talk about the need to stop and process. To sometimes accept that survival comes from taking a break and healing from the struggles we have gone through.Sometimes the best view of life is from the ground and that's ok :)
Nope, we are not talking about High School Musical, for all you Millenials tuning in excited. But the other thing that brought us together and how we are tackling the post covid mental health impacts.
Show me the money?

Show me the money?

2021-10-0332:47

The Streisand effect and how companies fail to deal with the uncomfortable discussions about salaries and pay. Kat and I delve into the pros and cons and how trying to silence a discussion has never worked (yet companies still make this mistake)Why is talking about money uncomfortable at work?
We've been somewhat absent of late, this episode delves into why and gives Amara a chance to listen to Kat talk about mental health, depression, and other "fun" topics. Seriously though, post covid lockdown no one is immune to mental health wobbles, including your hosts! and in an attempt to normalise that we want to show its ok to talk about it.TW: DepressionOur hosts can be found on Twitter atKat - @katelyn_f_baker Amara - @amara_b_t_s The Podcast - @QueensOTTAge
Somewhat belatedly we take a meander through the debacle that was the Basecamp self inflicted implosion. What do Kat and Amara think?, well, the only way to find out is to listen. Are there wider lessons here for companies who are serious about walking the walk on diversity and inclusion? (hint, the answer is yes) and what on earth can we do as women in tech to get our voices heard and taken seriously by those in leadership who have the privilege of being able to treat "the political" as something divisive instead of something that negatively impacts our lives as women working in the tech space. Our hosts can be found on Twitter atKat - @katelyn_f_baker Amara - @amara_b_t_s
Our hosts, Amara and Kat, dig into the anxiety they and everyone is feeling around what returning to work is going to involve. How do we escape the anxiety that plagues us with the impending return to work, or at least how do we manage it and how do we help others do so.Our hosts can be found on Twitter at@katelyn_f_baker @amara_b_t_s
It had to come, thankfully, as the world winds its way to a new normal what does this mean for work, especially for women, our intrepid hosts have no canonical answers but they have opinions, experience, and a misplaced confidence that leads them to share that on the internet.Kat and Amara share some of their thoughts about what it will be, what it could be, what it should be, and at some point Kat will accidentally swear. Please, find us on Twitter @QueensOTTAge for feedback and questioning our motivations, sanity, and anything else in your brain you want to throw our way
Knowing Your WorthKat and Amara are joined again by Shini, now our most featured and special guest, to dig into the thorny topic of actually knowing what you're worth to a company. If you don't, you're going to be undervalued, and as women we know its ingrained in us from an early age across most cultures to not advocate for ourselves, to be demure, to be grateful.Alas, this just doesn't cut it in when it comes to negotiating and getting a fair compensation package, so our panel dig into their experiences and advice to attempt to move the dial a little closer to parity the men folk.Kat probably accidentally swearsAmara represents for all the K-Pop fan girls out there
We continue our deep dive into getting hired as a women in tech by looking at the inverse of the interview.
Continuing our series on getting hired as a women in tech we reach the interview phase. Kat and Amara look at the problem from the perspective of Interviewers, what people are looking for in those circumstances, how to stand out, how to feel outa company. To be continued next episode when we look at how to be an interviewee. Also, random things occur, Kat probably accidentally swears, a good time is had by all <3
Rather than Kat and Amara talk about recruiting and recruitment as outsiders making guesses about how it all works, it seems a much better idea to invite an actual recruiter onto the program to talk about the process of profesional recruitment in the tech sector and the challenges women face. Many thanks to Shini for tolerating our inane questions and being a most excellent guest.
Kat and Amara dive into the issues of getting a job in tech, because to become a Women in Tech one must first get hired before they can slay all before them!. First part of a series looking at the whole recruitment saga with advice, anecdotes, and almost certainly a few digressions from Kat.
Microagressions

Microagressions

2021-02-2636:53

Ashfia, Kat, and Amara dive into the topic of microagressions, looking at what they are and how they impact the lives of women and PoC working in tech and how we, as leaders in the tech space as women, can help combat their presence.
