Description
Human/Ordinary is back in 2024 with a series of short docos. Sam will spend two weeks floundering and then release whatever he has on Friday night of the second week. They'll mostly be personal journals that touch on our culture, our relationships, and the extraordinary feat of being alive.

A day late with this one, which pretty much exposes me as breaking my own rules. The idea was that I'd upload at the end of the two weeks whatever I had. But truth is, I didn't have anything.I recorded a bit of audio at the festival where I was, and so there's some music in the background I don't have permission to use. I think there's far greater crimes occurring and so I've decided to leave it in. You will also hear the start of a set by musician Angie McMahon. I have not got permission to use this either. Maybe as compensation, you could check out her music. Slow Mover is an incredible song. Thanks to my Meredith Mates who keep making me laugh and still laugh at my jokes. Here's to 26 more festivals. You can hear more of my stuff here.I'm taking a bit of a break from this podcast over the summer. I'll make some things when I can. Have a safe break, enjoy your time with friends and family, and be excellent to each other. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Sometimes, things don't go to plan. I've had a two week stretch that started well, but then nothing really panned out. I had some work on that then got postponed, which meant the idea I had for Human/Ordinary couldn't be realised. Them's the breaks I guess. What you get instead is a plug for a show that I worked on earlier this year. I feel it deserves more listeners because it's a cracking story and we worked hard on it. You'll hear a trailer for it, followed by a few select scenes from across the series. They're all without context, so the idea is to pique your interest enough that you'll check it out.Fingers crossed.Listen to Treason here, or wherever you get your podcasts. And you can find more of my work here. A friend of mine died recently. This is the story of our friendship, and my hate for him.I've decided to dispense with the intro narration; they weren't really adding anything and you hear from me enough as it is.This episode is a part of a little series of stories called One Every Two. I'm going to make a new one every two weeks, and upload whatever I have when the time is up. I really abandoned this story. I wish, given the subject matter, I was able to take more care with it. But then, if I gave myself more time, I might just have tinkered and tinkered until it was all tinkered out. This story contains audio from videos created twenty years ago by many amazing people, including Ben Flavel, Emma Fisher, Paul Watson, Richard Halstead, Chris Ryan, Julia Sutherland, Kathryn Piggott and Ryan Coonan. I haven't asked their permission to use this audio, but will instead ask for their forgiveness.A sound recording of Japan from the Soundly Pro library is used.Everything else is by me. Check out more here. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Continuing my little series One Every Two, here's a little story about a week where we had to go back into lockdown. Just me, my partner, our two kids, a big cubby, three suspected cases of whooping cough, and a new approach to parenting.Scripting, editing, sound design and music by me.Check out more of my stuff here. This is a little story about a weekend in the city with my son. I realise some things about getting older.Writing, sound design and music by me.More of my work here. Please rate and review if you have the time. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Well it's been a long time between Human/Ordinary drinks. If anyone's still out there, hi!For the past five years I've been making a go of doing this podcasting caper as my job. But things have been slow lately and so I've decided to start making things for myself again. It starts here. A little series called One Every Two, where I'm going to try ("try" being the important term here) to make a new little story every couple of weeks. We'll see how it goes.Scriptwriting, sound design and music is all by me. You'll hear a bit from Morning Mood by Edvard Grieg. The arrangement is mine and the composition is in the public domain.Check out more of my stuff here.Anyway, thanks for listening. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Her whole life, May Jasper has felt nervous about going to the hairdresser. She didn’t know anything about fashion, and she didn’t understand all the questions they would ask like “do you want more volume in your hair?” (Why, is that gonna make it louder?) And so she fantasised about a world where hairdressers were like plumbers. Just getting the job done, no questions asked. This episode, May finds out why that is actually a terrible idea. Even though many people think only of dot-style paintings when considering “Aboriginal art”, it is actually as diverse as the many Indigenous nations who live across the country we now call Australia. Each group has its own unique culture with different languages, different stories and songs, different tools and different art styles. But increasingly, this art is being exploited in the souvenir market where ‘Aboriginal-style’ designs are manufactured in places like Indonesia and China. This story explores the relationship between Aboriginal art, culture and identity, and what can be done about the fake art market. Produced by Cinnamon Nippard.Big thanks to Kellyann Drill, Abe Muriata, Joann Russo, Stephanie Parkin, Lee Elsdon, Gabrielle Sullivan and the Human/Ordinary team. For more information on this issue, check out the following links:Indigenous Art Code: https://indigenousartcode.org/The Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair: https://www.daaf.com.au/Arts Law Centre of Australia: https://www.artslaw.com.au/artists-in-the-black/Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre: http://art.girringun.com.au/Waringarri Aboriginal Arts: https://www.waringarriarts.com.au/donations/warringarri/Bibi Barba’s case, click here: https://www.copyright.com.au/bibi/https://www.sbs.com.au/nitv/nitv-news/article/2018/03/23/indigenous-artist-faces-uphill-legal-battle-after-polish-hotel-allegedly-stole+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +Human/Ordinary is produced in Melbourne and Sydney by Sam Loy, Cinnamon Nippard, Mic Cavazzini, and May Jasper.Score a t-shirt, bonus content, and ad-free episodes by subscribing at pozible.com/profile/humanordinary-podcastFor more on the show...Website: humanordinary.comFacebook: facebook.com/humanordinarypodcastTwitter: @humanordinarypcPlanet Broadcasting: planetbroadcasting.comSponsors and promo codes...MVMT: mvmt.com/human Hosted on Acast. Geoff Allen has been around. As a ringer in the 50s and 60s, it was his job to tame wild horses and drove massive herds of cattle throughout the outback country. His tale is full of humour, hard work, mateship, and death, and gives an insight into a nearly-forgotten time.
