Secondary markets are a vital part of bridging the infrastructure funding gap in emerging and frontier markets. Bond instruments often lock investors in for many years, but secondary markets add a layer of flexibility. By making it easier for market participants to buy and sell loans or bonds, we can ensure that money flows better to where it’s most needed. In this episode we find out how secondary opportunities within capital markets deepen the pool of market participants, and how they have been implemented in a variety of projects. We learn about securitisations, an additional market mechanism used to enhance secondary market liquidity. And we find out why you can’t say you’ve fully developed a capital market until you’ve generated secondary liquidity.Your hosts are Marjolein van Kampen and Hector Santos, and on the podcast are:Layth Al-Falaki, CEO GuarantCoJonathan Neo, Associate Director GuarantCoBryan Woon, Head of Structuring and Distribution, Bayfront InfrastructureAla Ahmad, CEO MetLife BangladeshFind out more at guarantco.com/blended-knowledge/ Hosted on Acast. Given the scale of the infrastructure funding gap throughout Africa and Asia, it will take a variety of synergistic solutions to sustainably address this funding shortfall. One such solution, that could hasten the closing of this gap quicker than any other, is the increased use of guarantees to support infrastructure project financing. According to the Africa Development Bank, Africa’s infrastructure requirements range between USD 130 and USD 170 billion with an infrastructure funding gap of USD 68 to USD 108 billion. These figures demonstrate the critical need to provide essential infrastructure to local people to ensure long-term economic growth. At the core of this issue is the lack of technical capabilities which GuarantCo, supported by PIDG Technical Assistance funding, is addressing by organising capacity building workshops across Africa. In this episode we hear from stakeholders, partners and participants of the events who explore the transformational impact of capacity building. Contributing to the podcast areEdith Jiya, CEO Old Mutual MalawiMark Mikwamba, Managing Director Old Mutual Investment GroupEsnat Suleman, Head of Treasury and Investment Banking FDH BankAndrew Mbunda, Principal Relationship Manager at CRDB BankJules Samain, MD Africa GuarantCoSarah Siliya, Business Development Manager Africa GuarantCoFind out more at guarantco.com/blended-knowledge/ Hosted on Acast. Infrastructure development is a crucial driver of economic growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation across Africa and Asia. But infrastructure projects in lower income countries are experiencing a growing funding gap from both public and private sources, estimated to be around 1.3 trillion dollars per year, according to the World Bank. So that’s why partnerships between the two sectors are essential. Blended finance is doing just that and is playing an increasingly important role in tackling these challenges. GuarantCo has built and nurtured many strategic partnerships over the past 15 years, and in this episode we showcase just how valuable the right partnerships are in effecting change.Contributing to the podcast areDenesh Srishanker, investment director at GuarantCoIbukun Adebayo, co-head emerging markets of the London Stock Exchange GroupSujithav Sarangi, executive director, structured export finance at Standard Chartered BankNeema Siwingwa, chief co-financing and syndications officer of the African Development Bank GroupHelge Muenkel, managing director, head of Asia Pacific, sustainable finance & global capital markets at INGEvans Osano, director, capital markets from FSD AfricaLade Araba, managing director from Convergence Blended Finance AfricaFind out more at guarantco.com/blended-knowledge/ Hosted on Acast.
