Description

As a musical genre, heavy metal (and all it's sub-genres) has only existed for 50 years, but in that time there have been a great many happenings that we have collectively forgotten.

In this podcast Nik Cameron and Duncan Evans will be going through albums, concerts, etc in a vain glorious attempt to remember it all.

We contextualize the subject and then we take it track by track. In the end, we'll tell you if you should spin it or bin it.

In 1996, Bruce Dickinson, yes THE Bruce Dickinson, created a new band and released a record. Originally, the band was to be called Skunkworks, but the record company would not take it. What we have here is a post grunge laced album by Dickinson and crew. Should you check it out? Dig in to find out.
In the late 80's, a band named Bang Tango burst onto the scene and made some hay. Unfortunately, they arrived as the party was ending. After some ins and outs and stops and starts, Bang Tango gave way to Beautiful Creatures. That's what Nik and Duncan are taking on today!
Today, Nik and Duncan took on the last album by Black Sabbath proper that they'll be doing on this podcast. Of course the wellspring that is Heavy Metal sprouts at all things Black Sabbath. This is the third album featuring the seventh vocalist in Black Sabbath's history, Tony Martin. See what all the fuss is about!
At the turn of the 1970's, the man who'd become Peter Criss was involved with the future co-writers of Beth. This band of course was Chelsea. Join Nik and Duncan as they dig in.
Nik and Duncan get into this album by former Iron Maiden vocalist, Paul Di'Anno. 10 years after his ouster from Iron Maiden, he returns with his most Iron Maiden-y album yet. Find out if we spin it or bin it!
This week the Department takes on the 50th greatest concept album of all time according to Rolling Stone Magazine in 2022. Nik and Duncan are joined by the one and only, Steve Scavuzzo of Clouds Taste Satanic. https://cloudstastesatanic.bandcamp.com/merch
One of the greatest American musical success stories, Billy Joel, has a seedy past that's been largely lost to the sands of time! Did you know that he was once in a psychedelic metal band featuring shades of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple? Join Nik and Duncan as they tell you all about it.
This week Nik and Duncan, the Dunking, unearth some Iron Maiden content. Years ago, Adrian Smith was in a band called Urchin. They apparently recorded three albums' worth of material. Join us as we try to unmuddy the waters. https://facebook.com/dmapodcast
As the Guns n Roses car was slowly crashing into fame and stardom, pieces started being tossed aside. Number two was Izzy Stradlin. Join us as we delve into his first solo record.
When the vast tidal waves of reunion were happening, the craving, crawling, and desiring public nearly got that Led Zeppelin reunion we were desiring and requiring. Instead, we got the two voices of Led Zeppelin making a brand new record. Nik and Duncan dig deep on it.
In 2001, John Paul Jones, late of Led Zeppelin, came back out of hiding and dropped this record on our laps. Do you remember it? Nik had never even heard of this one before. Join him and Duncan as they dig deeply into its grooves.
Special New Year's Eve Festivus Episodus! This week Nik and Duncan tackle the Return of Spinal Tap. It was the heady year of 1992 and our favorite costumed crusaders of the metal faith have returned with their first album since the seminal "Smell The Glove." We dig into and let you know if you should spin it or bin it! Like Us On Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dmapodcast/ Check out Duncan's Music: https://duncan-evans.bandcamp.com/
Set phasers to punk...or was that hip hop? This week, we're taking another trip over to NYC to check in with the world's greatest band, The Beastie Boys. Back in 1995, they dropped a hardcore punk EP, ever heard it? Join Nik and Duncan as they jump all over it.
Here's where things get a little bit strange. Back in the late 90's, there apparently was a meeting that very nearly created a revival, not reunion, of what was once considered to be Public Image Ltd, but Johnny Lydon wouldn't do it. So, instead we got The Damage Manual featuring Martin Atkins of PIL, Chris Connelly of Ministry on vocals, Geordie Walker of Killing Joke on guitar, and Jah Wobble of PIL on bass. What could've been right? But the DMA didn't miss the mark, we were lucky enough to have Brandon Ringo of the Little Rock, AR sludge doom metal band, Mammoth Caravan, join us to give his thoughts on the record. Check us out! https://www.facebook.com/dmapodcast Check him out! https://www.facebook.com/MammothCaravan Their first album is now OUT ON VINYL!!!!!!!!!! https://mammothcaravan.bandcamp.com/album/ice-cold-oblivion
It was 1989 Anno Doimini and the merger of some of Black Oak Arkansas and Pantera was joining and perhaps ganing steam. Terry Glaze, the voice of Pantera on their first three independent albums meets with Chris Craig and Barney Wolfe, both formerly of Black Oak Arkansas, and they along with guitarist, Jimmy Rusidoff, they create a brand new hair metal band that's equal parts Rolling Stones, Exodus, Beastie Boys, and Poison. Is this a bridge too far with too many different things going on all at once? Join Nik and Duncan as they figure it out. https://www.facebook.com/dmapodcast/
In the greatest heavy metal cartoon of all time, Murderface referred to himself as the Lead Songwriter for Dethklok. Honestly, how often is that kind of thing really true? Well, today's album is what happens when the bassist of a band fully takes on a Lead Songwriting role. Now, as this is truly on brand, this might be the most forgotten album we have ever covered, because it was only released on an advanced copy for reviews and radio play. There has never been a commercial release. Join us!
After leaving the sanitarium, Alice started a brand new journey. It took a weird turn to New Wave to find out where we're going. Join us!
Anyone listening to this kind of music who's around my age has got to remember "Joe Elliott" coming up to "Phil Collen" in the VH1 made for TV movie about Def Leppard. Right? Well anyway. That was the scene where Collen is recruited to replace Pete Willis. So, what was Mr. Collen doing before joining? He was in a band called Girl and he was bandmates with future LA Guns singer, Phil Lewis. This band was PHILLED up with Phils. So this week, we've got a glam rock two'fer for ya. https://www.facebook.com/dmapodcast/ https://duncan-evans.bandcamp.com/
What happens when Joe Bonamassa can't tour for Black Country Communion? Welp, our man Glenn Hughes just starts another band and what happens when one of the members of that band can't tour? Well, get with us and check out the Glenn Hughes, Jason Bonham, and Andrew Watt vehicle, California Breed! https://duncan-evans.bandcamp.com/ https://www.facebook.com/dmapodcast/
It's always nice when we're joined by a good friend. This week, Keefy Chackes of Ghost Cult Mag was kind enough to lend us his time. In doing so, we decided to take a swing at the second solo album released by Roger Waters, Radio KAOS. Check out Keefy's work here: https://www.ghostcultmag.com Duncan's music: https://duncan-evans.bandcamp.com/ DMA Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dmapodcast
