Helen Gorst Peterson grew up in Brooklyn NY. She was a professional ballerina for The American Ballet Co. She is a great listener, loves her family, doesn’t take any BS, and loved to travel. She is a fighter and always has been. May all of you listening to this say a prayer for her. She suffered a stroke and now is in hospice. Life is not alway’s great news and good things. I know that I will always remember how she made me feel... Even if I was a kid who wasn’t doing well she always made me feel welcomed and loved no matter what. She always got my brother and I a hallmark ornament for Xmas and since 1981 I’ve got ornaments from her. The 1st is a metal train ornament. I probably could tell you all 39 of them. She always catered to what it was you were doing in life or what your passion was at the time. Just how thoughtful she was. She did this for all of the family. She knows what we all love and enjoy. I remember being so sick when my parents were on a trip. My nana was watching me. Well i got a fever so bad that she rushed me inside our house in Collierville and told me to go to the bath tub and take my clothes off. Well she came back to make a ice bath and I was waiting on her to leave. She didn’t care she said get your butt in that ice bath! I was embarrassed but it was that serious. I was deathly sick. She didn’t hesitate to take charge in any situation. I can’t remember how I was when I stayed with her and papa but I know I felt like I was with my family. She took care of me when I was young a lot of the time. She is so special to me and I am so thankful she is my nana! Friends please say a prayer for her and keep us in your thoughts. I love you Nana! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepetersonpapers/message

The ability to inspire is one of the single most important leadership skills. Mr. Aitken was my Principal at Houston High School and he left such a great impact on my life. In a time of such terrible examples or role models I found myself thinking about my young life or time in school. Mr. Aitken was the first thought I had and that's when I decided to make a podcast that talked about something positive and really rare in current times! I am keeping the description short but please let me know in the comments if he too affected your life's like he did mine. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepetersonpapers/message
SUNDAY IN MISSISSIPPI, OR EVERYWHERE FOR THAT MATTER. I TOOK A 2 WEEK BREAK FROM MY PHONE AND TECHNOLOGY. I DID THAT ON PURPOSE, OR IT IS MY BANK'S FAULT and PHONE COMPANY FAULT... EMOTIONS CONTROL EVERYTHING IN OUR LIFES GOOD OR BAD. CHAOS BRINGS YOU TO A OPTION TO MAKE THINGS EASIER OR NOT AND YOU CHOOSE YOUR PATH. WITHOUT CHAOS THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OUR LIFES AND HOW OUR LIFE'S TURN OUT. EMOTIONS HELP US KNOW WHAT IS GOOD AND BAD AND SHOWS THAT NO MATTER HOW SQUEAKY CLEAN YOU ARE OR PERFECT, YOU ARE ALWAYS GOING TO EMOTIONAL SITUATIONS LEAD YOU TO A OR B. BOTH UNKNOWN BUT ESSENTIAL IN GROWING HAS A RACE OR NOT. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepetersonpapers/message
#1. Meditate Contrary to what most people think, meditation is not just about relaxation – it is basically mental training to increase awareness. Training is something you need to build up. You wouldn’t try to run a marathon without training, and the same applies to meditation. Start with just one minute per day: just sit down comfortably, close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Whenever you notice your thoughts are starting to wander, bring them back to your breath. Once you made that one minute per day a routine, try to gradually increase it to two minutes, then three, and so on. #2. Show appreciation Tell people how much you appreciate them. But be sure to be specific when you do! Remind them about how they always take time to listen to you, even when they are super busy. Or about that time they came to pick you up when your car broke down in the middle of the night and you were stuck on a deserted highway. Chances are, they don’t get such compliments very often. Showing how much you genuinely appreciate someone, is one of the best gifts you can give them.  #3. Stop worrying In order to enjoy the present, you have to stop worrying about the future. Worrying about stuff leads to anxiety. The problem for people who are often worried, is that they confuse their thoughts about reality with actual reality. When you focus your attention on your senses instead of the narrative content of your thoughts, it will become easier to distinguish your anxiety-inducing thoughts from the ruth. #4. Observe your environment Instead of constantly looking down at your smartphone when you’re waiting for the bus, sitting in the train or taking a ‘break’ at work, try to just observe what’s going on around you. Focus on the feeling of the sun on your skin, the wind in your hair. Notice the movements around you. The people. What sounds do you hear? What do you smell? When this is hard for you, try to imagine your superpowers are heightened senses. Chances are, you will see, feel, smell and hear a lot more than before. #5. Do less We live in a culture that is all about business and deadlines and achievements, and it has us racing through life at an abnormal pace. We rarely allow ourselves to slow down. But what if we did? By physically slowing down, we can also slow down mentally. True, you might not get as much done as before, but it does help you do be more aware of every moment, to get more pleasure out of the things you do, and to actually connect to others. Try to do less, but be fully present in everything you do. #6. Leave room for free time I have to admit that I was one of those people who would literally forgot how do to nothing. There is always something to be done, usually work related. I had this go, go, go mentality. I was in a constant state of stress; the idea of just doing nothing seemed so foreign to me, it made me incredibly uncomfortable. However, this is not a healthy mindset. We really don’t have to ‘do’ all the time. Every day, try to leave room for free time. Even if it’s just for five minutes. Just sit down, and do absolutely nothing. #7. Forgive past hurts Gandhi said the weak can never forgive. This makes sense when you realize forgiveness can require a lot of strength. Forgiveness starts with acknowledging that you are blaming someone for something. You need to become conscious of any anger, resentment and grudges you’re holding, and ask yourself where those feelings are coming from. Once you know, forgiveness becomes a matter of letting go. However, you also need to forgive yourself sometimes, when you have regrets. Define them first, and then let go. #8. Notice sensory details during your everyday life If you take a moment to stop and, well, literally smell those roses, you will develop more appreciation for the beauty in life. But aside from smelling the roses in the garden, you can apply this to everything you do throughout the day. Take folding the laundry for example. Usually, you would simply rush throug --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepetersonpapers/message

PATIENCE

PATIENCE

2021-12-2330:03

Patience is the ability to stay calm while you're waiting for an outcome that you need or want, it comes in three main varieties: interpersonal patience, life hardship patience, and daily hassles patience. Interpersonal PatienceYou may consider some people to be slow learners, hard to understand, or even downright unreasonable. Or, they may have bad habits that drive you crazy. But losing your patience with them will be of no benefit, and it may make matters worse. Patience and understanding toward others is essential when you're onboarding new staff, or when you're delegating tasks. It's also a huge help in dealing with difficult co-workers or managers, and it's central to high-quality customer service. This type of patience is active. Listening skills and empathy  are vital, and, when you're dealing with difficult people , you need the self-awareness  and emotional intelligence  to understand how your words and actions affect the situation. You can't just wait it out and hope for the best. 2. Life Hardship Patience We could use the term perseverance to sum up life hardship patience. It can mean having the patience to overcome a serious setback in life, like waiting long term for the outcome of a lawsuit, or for medical treatment. But it can also include your ability to work toward a long-term goal – whether it's professional, such as a promotion, or personal, like getting fit or saving for a vacation. Whatever the obstacle you have to overcome, it will likely require determination and focus  to achieve. And you will need to keep your emotions under control throughout the journey. These emotions can range from eagerness to get it done, to anger at the frustrations you encounter along the way – which can cause you to become demotivated. 3. Daily Hassles Patience Sometimes you need patience to deal with circumstances that are beyond your control. These are your "life hassles." Something as trivial as getting stuck in a traffic line, for instance, or waiting for a computer program to load. You also need patience to get through those dull but unavoidable day-to-day tasks that don't necessarily contribute to your personal goals. The ability to maintain self-discipline, and give a job – no matter how mundane – the attention to detail it needs, is a hallmark of patience. Research suggests that people who can stay calm in the face of these constant, petty frustrations are more likely to be more empathic, more equitable, and to suffer less from depression. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepetersonpapers/message
Something was looking out for me last night... Model y nailed a horse on a hwy in MS late last night and was very intense and chaotic. NOT only did we almost have our ride explode as soon as we came to a stop after hitting a 18 hand horse going 70 on the interstate a camaro with a single occupant could not miss hitting this thing in the road becuase of it took up both lanes and it was humungous!!! He hit the horse at about 80mph then procedeeded to fly into the air twisting and flipping and ti=umbling he rolled and flipped over 10 times! I watched it all in the rear view and turned blue when I thought I was in some horror movie. The guy jumps out of this upside down camaro in litterally 2 seconds and I told my buddy to get the fuck out! I had been asleep and woke to an explosion of glasse in my face and him saying he hit a horse. He never drives so I thought he hit a large deer or a bigfoot... Importance of Being…Curious The important thing is not to stop questioning… Never lose a holy curiosity. Albert Einstein Intellectual curiosity is so important! We see that most clearly in how it manifests itself in geniuses. Intellectual giant are always curious persons. For example, Thomas Edison, Leonardo da Vinci, Albert Einstein, Richard Feynman are all curious characters. Richard Feynman was especially known for his adventures which came from his curiosity. Curiosity is not only important for those with high IQs. Successful students (and people who are successful after college) often display a good measure of intellectual curiosity. But why is curiosity so important? Here are four reasons: 1. It makes your mind active instead of passive Curious people always ask questions and search for answers. Their minds are always active. Since the mind is like a muscle which becomes stronger through continual exercise, the mental exercise caused by curiosity makes your mind stronger and stronger. 2. It makes your mind observant of new ideas When you are curious about something, your mind expects and anticipates new ideas related to the subject. When the ideas come you will recognize them. Without curiosity, the ideas may pass right in front of you and yet you miss them because your mind is not prepared to recognize them. Just think, how many great ideas may have been lost due to lack of curiosity? 3. It opens up new worlds and possibilities By being curious you will be able to see new worlds and possibilities that are normally not visible. They are hidden behind the surface of normal life, and it takes a curious mind to look beneath the surface and discover these new worlds and possibilities. 4. It brings excitement into your life The lives of curious people are far from boring. They are neither dull nor routine. There are always new things that attract the curious person’s attention, there are always new ‘toys’ to play with. Instead of being bored, curious people lead adventurous lifes. 2. Don’t take things at face value. If you just accept the world as it is without trying to dig deeper, you will certainly lose the ‘holy curiosity’. Never take things at face value. Try to dig deeper beneath the surface of what is around you. 3. Ask questions relentlessly A sure way to dig deeper beneath the surface is asking questions: What is that? Why is it made that way? When was it made? Who invented it? Where does it come from? How does it work? What, why, when, who, where, and how are the best friends of curious people. 4. Don’t label something as boring Whenever you label something as boring, you close one more door of possibilities. Curious people are unlikely to call something boring. Instead, they always see it as a door to an exciting new world.  --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thepetersonpapers/message
