Description
The Nu Deal is a political and current events podcast. Too often does the American political climate leave out the most important aspect of our democracy - its people. Hosted by Gerry Nutini, this podcast puts emphasis on how issues and events have real-world impacts on our lives, our neighbor's lives and the well-being of our communities.

With Russia's invasion into Ukraine, we have seen The West - US, NATO, and other allies - condemn the act and impose harsh sanctions. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian people fight for their freedom.
In a Tik Tok video (linked below) I wondered why only sanctions? And the response was "nukes." But where do we draw the line in our fear of nuclear war? At what point must our inaction turn to action even in the face of such destruction. I answer that question and more in this in-depth podcast on the topic.

We all like to complain that nothing ever gets done in Washington, but I promise you that this budget bill is not one of those situations. Yes, even Republicans should be supportive of this bill that finally delivers for the middle class. The Pod Save America Podcast said last week that "we" need to be doing more to promote this kind of legislation, so I am doing my part! In this video, I focus don't the substance of this bill and how it will affect my life, and your life, and the lives of the people around us.

The key piece of the Biden agenda is a $3.5T dollar spending bill, being called a social safety net. But Senators Manchin and Sinema don't like the price tag. I analyze the bill and what Americans would get as far as value. I examine the failure of Democratic messaging, as well as the danger Senators Manchin and Sinema are creating for Democrats - and the country - if this bill should not pass prior to the midterms.
Please rate and review, and let me know how I am doing!

The COVID pandemic continues to dominate news even as we have withdrawn from Afghanistan, seen restrictive abortion laws passed, and have major infrastructure and budget bills moving forward.
With case counts, hospitalizations, and deaths from COVID up, Joe Biden released a 6-part plan last week that includes vaccine mandates that affect 100 million Americans. Many on the right have criticized this as a violation of their rights.
In this episode, I will explore whether it is a violation of rights, why we have a mandate at all, and finally a breakdown of the division amongst Americans and how the politicization of COVID has resulted in the needless deaths of thousands of Americans.

The situation in Afghanistan is a chaotic one, and while the evacuation from Kabul has been at the forefront, conversations about where to place blame have also prevailed. It is easy with Afghanistan to only focus on this singular moment, but this has been a 20-year war across 4 presidencies. This episode starts with 9/11 and looks at each phase of the conflict and all the players - The US, the Taliban, Bin Laden, the Afghan Government, and the roles each US President played in their terms.
There's very likely information in this episode you didn't know. My hope is to highlight the complexity of this situation and how even though the events we see today are no one's fault, they are also everyone's fault.
The Senate passes the Infrastructure Bill and moves forward with the Budget Plan. There's a new Jeopardy host! Rand Paul was naughty with stocks, the situation worsens in Afghanistan and of course, how could I not cover COVID - Delta Variant style - again. Just another jam-packed week of The Nu Deal Podcast!

This episode focuses exclusively on the infrastructure bill, aka, The American Jobs Plan, that was approved for debate in the Senate last week. I discuss what is in this version of the bill, what key provisions were left out, why there are funding issues for the bill and finally, I explore why this bill could set a dangerous precedent if it moves forward in its current state.

This week, I focus on bipartisanship and try to determine whether or not it's a myth. Is there a lack of bipartisanship, or just overwhelming obstructionism? Does current proposed legislation have mass appeal, or does it only help a narrow section of Americans? You'll find the answers here. I also delve into this week's headlines, from flooding and wildfires to the delta variant and Trump's latest misstep.

In an unprecedented move, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi denied the Minority Leader two of his committee picks for the House January 6th Commission. Citing their previous statements on the issue, she rejected Jim Jordan and Jim Banks. Voting Rights are a hot subject right now. Two major bills look to expand access to voting for eligible Americans, while many states try to limit the ability of voters to get to the polls - even if that means eligible voters end up losing their right. After a quick rundown of this week's headlines, I explore how we got here, what factors are driving it, how restrictive laws can target specific groups of people, and finally, I review both Voting Rights bills currently being considered by the Senate.

The term Critical Race Theory (CRT) has entered the public conversation in recent months due in large part to conservative outrage about the theory being taught in schools or the workplace. This episode is based on a recent article I wrote of the same title, linked below.
Part two of this two-part episode explores how critics of CRT and systemic racism come to be so dismissive of these issues. I run down the mental processes I believe they use in order to vilify concepts associate with civil rights and how that framework has come into place. Later in the episode, I question why Democratic branding is not as effective as a lot of the GOP branding, and explain how Critical Race Theory has very little to do with education and everything to do with GOP marketing.

The term Critical Race Theory (CRT) has entered the public conversation in recent months due in large part to conservative outrage about the theory being taught in schools or the workplace. This episode is based off of a recent article I wrote of the same title, linked below.
Part one of this two-part episode will explore the definition of CRT, how Fox News helped to hijack and weaponize the term and take a critical look at whether this is a subject that should be taught in America's public schools. Included are clips from the theory's co-founder, Kimberle Krenshaw so that we can hear from the creator what the purpose and intent of CRT were from the start.

The most critical episode in this series, Predatory Lending is at the heart of the Student Loan Crisis. When it comes to understanding this economic crisis, I believe this is the least understood area. From soaring interest rates and lack of transparency to collusion between loan companies and schools, many borrowers were doomed to default before they ever realized it. The scheming is deeper than I ever could have imagined, and if we aren't careful, a Student Loan Crash may be on the horizon for the US economy.

The third part of the Student Loan Crisis series examines the economic factors that catalyzed the Loan Crisis and also looks at the impacts of those factors as the crisis evolves. From rising tuition costs and wage stagnation to COVID and recessions, many factors affect the ability of students to pay back their loans. And as the last 20 years have been some of the most tumultuous in recent history... it is no surprise that loan repayment has been so negatively influenced.

There are many stigmas around student loan debt. Episode 2 of this 6 part series will explore them and, hopefully, dispel some of them. We've heard them before. "Students knew what they were doing when they took loans," or "I was responsible, I paid my bills," or even "Well then, they shouldn't have gone to college." This episode examines some of the economic and cultural factors that catalyzed the student loan crisis,. and demonstrates how many borrowers are in dire situations through no fault of their own.

Money. We all use it. We all need it. But what is it? How much is there? Why do we choose to use the monetary systems we do, and should we continue to do so? In this episode, I take a look at a Visual Capitalist article that shows how much wealth is in the world, and where it comes from. Then I discuss why we do so little with so much, and the restrictions our current institutions impose on us.
