Katie Crawford & Joann Price share with us about how to serve and care for others wherever you are today.ABOUT KATIE CRAWFORD & JOANN PRICE:Katie Crawford has been passionate about supporting missionaries and pastoral care for years. She had a vision when she was 19 on a mission trip about a place where people focused on doing God's Kingdom work could come for refreshment. Sound familiar? Friends with the Prices for over 20 years, in fact they first met at a retreat for a youth group at the former Son Lodge which is now Sanctuary Inn. Katie used to dream with the Prices around her fire pit about a place where missionaries could come to be refreshed and restored to ministry. She started praying for the Lord to bring the funds and property to make this ministry happen. Katie has a B.S. from Multnomah Bible College in Bible and Theology with a minor in Women's Ministries. Katie has worked at Nike for 25 years. She is currently a Global Process Director. She loves working with international teams and visiting countries and cultures beyond the US.Steven and Joann Price have been in ministry for many years including time overseas and in local church ministry. For ten years they directed the residential ministry of the WorldView Center in Portland before starting up Sanctuary Inn in 2016.ADDITIONAL RESOURCE:Women of WelcomeL'Abri (New Expanded Edition)
Ruth helps us understand the importance of caring for leaders serving globally.ABOUT RUTH:Ruth’s life goal is to know Christ and make Him known. She grew up in Nigeria. Her parents were involved in cross-cultural ministry in Nigeria. By grade 8, she knew with certainty that she, too, would be involved in cross-cultural work in some way. At the end of grade 10, having tired of boarding school, she asked her parents if she could live with her Grandparents in Canada. They welcomed her in and helped her adjust to life in Canada. At the age of 27 her parents were killed in a motor vehicle accident in Canada. This loss greatly affected her life and gave her an empathy for others who have faced unexpected life-altering losses.Later she joined an international organization and has worked in Liberia, Kenya, and South Africa – doing urban church planting, member care, hospitality, and discipleship. For the last 12 years she has enjoyed the privilege of encouraging teams and leaders in many different countries in both Asia and Africa. Besides her family, her favourite people are cross-cultural workers and their children. Discipleship, mentoring, coaching, and encouraging God’s workers are some of her delights in life. Investing in leaders today, so they can face the challenges of tomorrow, brings her joy.ADDITIONAL RESOURCE:Rare Leadership: 4 Uncommon Habits For Increasing Trust, Joy, and Engagement in the People You Lead by Marcus Warner, Jim WilderThe Pandora Problem: Facing Narcissism in Leaders & Ourselves by E. Bruce and Cindy McMartin tell the story of their life work on two sides of the globe as they worked alongside their students in missions.
ABOUT BRUCE & CINDY MCMARTIN:
Bruce & Cindy met at Multnomah Bible College and married after graduating in 1975. They have 3 grown children.
Bruce earned a ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary and a D.Miss from Western Seminary.
Bruce & Cindy were accepted as appointees to Haiti with Unevangelized Fields Mission (now Crossworld) and began full-time service in Haiti in 1982. They were both involved in training and developing Haitian leaders, and both taught in the Evangelical Theological Seminary of Port-au-Prince.
Both Bruce & Cindy played a role in helping to sensitize the Haitian church and believers to the needs of the lost world and their responsibility to be a part of obeying the Great Commission. A Haitian Mission Organization was birthed, and 3 teams were sent to Senegal (2004, 2005, 2011) and today there are 7 full-time Haitian missionaries serving in Senegal, W. Africa.
In 2014, Bruce & Cindy left Haiti and moved to Senegal to serve alongside Haitian missionaries. Senegal is a more unreached country, so the challenges are great. The major religion is Islam, and the Evangelical church is small.
Bruce & Cindy have just returned to the USA and are transitioning to making disciples in a new environment.

Our guests talk about the realities of preparing for working in closed access and creative access countries.
Today we are talking about “Preparing to Work in Hard Places”. What we mean by that is places where religion, language learning, climate and politics make it especially hard to be a global worker.
ABOUT SAM & JIM:
Sam has lived in 2 countries in the Middle East for 11 years with his wife and 2 children. He worked in business and NGO projects while sharing his faith and helping Muslims follow Jesus. For the last 4-5 years he has been working alongside churches to assess and prepare long-term teams to go to unreached and unengaged places in the Muslim world. He loves outdoor activities like hiking and camping, he also enjoys cooking and enjoying a good cup of coffee with a friend.
Jim and his family have spent 10 years on the mission field first in civil-war-Uganda in the 80’s seeing God start a disciple-making movement among their people group. Then after some graduate studies, they took a team from their church to live and minister in a 99.7% Muslim country in Central Asia. He and his wife currently work to recruit and prepare workers who will creatively go to “pioneering” environments to be ambassadors for Christ and make disciples who make disciples who make disciples. Jim and his wife continue to befriend local Muslims as they live in and love the Pacific Northwest.
