'Goldfinger' turns 60 this year and to help us celebrate the most iconic Bond film's diamond anniversary actor Ryan Hurst stops by to discuss indestructible henchmen, whiny gangsters, punny street names and toupee close calls! Fix yourself a martini (or mint julep) and join us!
Hang on lady, we're going for a ride! 'Temple of Doom' turns 40 this year! Treat yourself to a skull full of the blood of Kali Ma and join us as we discuss the second and likely the Bondiest of the Indiana Jones films, and then as a bonus each name our five favorite period adventure movies! *Note that this episode was recorded in the Spring of 2023, if some of our references seem a bit oddly dated...
‘80s nostalgia! John Wick-style action! Charlize Friggin’ Theron! It’s 'Atomic Blonde' time baby! Fix yourself a martini and join us as we discuss David Leitch’s 2017 sleeper action hit as well as each of our favorite Charlize Theron movies!
That’s right. We watched ‘Agent Cody Banks’ talked for over an hour about it, and all agreed that at the very least it definitely wasn’t the worst thing we’ve watched for our podcast. Fix yourself a martini (or more appropriately this week a soda pop) and join us as we discuss this 2003 family-friendly super spy romp starring professional NASCAR driver Frankie Muniz! We’ll talk about how the CIA using children as deniable assets is actually kind of believable, how Keith David is way too attracted to a hologram training bot, how some actors (like, I don’t know, Ian McShane?) can still be charming as they phone in their performances, and as a Bonus list our favorite movies starring TV actors.
Ever heard the one about the super spy whose wife and daughter thought he was a boring business man? Did either of those character descriptions immediately make you think Arnold Schwarzenegger or is it time for you to rewatch 'True Lies?' Fix yourself a martini (we all agree you may need it for this one) and join us as we discuss James Cameron's 1994 blockbuster and then as a bonus name our favorite Cameron and Schwarzenegger movies!
He’s like James Bond if James Bond wore a giant fur coat and used a serving tray as a skateboard. Pour yourself some straight vodka and join us as we discuss the 2002 blockbuster ‘xXx,’ name our favorite extreme sports movies and argue about what that specific sub-genre even is!
He gained international fame playing an English spy and then won an Oscar playing an Irish cop — did you really think a little thing like history’s strongest Scottish accent was going to stop Sean Connery from playing a Russian submarine captain? Fix yourself a martini (or whatever the heck Jack Ryan drinks) and join us as we discuss John McTiernan’s 1990 blockbuster ‘The Hunt for Red October!’ Would Harrison Ford have made this movie better or would Alec Baldwin actually have improved the next two Jack Ryan flicks? Did ‘Red October’ provide Connery the best wig he ever wore? And do you know what year the U.S. Navy banned smoking on their submarines? Get over here and learn some history with us, and get our pipin’ hot takes and our favorite (non-Bond) Sean Connery movies!
Remember ‘Spies Like Us’? It’s the movie where Chevy Chase is the lazy dummy who gets the girl and Dan Aykroyd is the smart one who, well, also gets the girl. It’s an ‘80s comedy with a Paul McCartney theme song (which the director has since called “terrible”) that cost 22 million dollars(!) and shot on location in the Sahara Desert and Norway — it got terrible reviews and was still a big hit. Grab a beer (in fact grab a few just in case) and join us as we discuss John Landis’ 1985 espionage buddy farce and as a bonus each list our favorite Aykroyd & Chase flicks!
Are you a bored British spy banished to a shit detail in Panama? Why not befriend a local tailor with some old resistance ties and start a coup for the fun of it? Fix yourself a martini and join us as we unpack ‘The Tailor of Panama,’ John Borman’s 2001 comic spy thriller based on John Le Carré’s novel! Included in our discussion — our favorite “Latin American actors” like Brendan Gleeson, a delightfully despicable Pierce Brosnan turn and as a bonus list our favorite performances of movie stars playing against type!
What to do when you’re denied the opportunity to direct a Bond movie? Well, you could certainly do worse than directing ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ instead! Pour yourself a Jack Daniel’s (cause you know Indy’s no Martini guy) and join us as we discuss snakes, boulders the indispensable John Williams, the frustratingly handsome Harrison Ford and more! Then as a bonus we name our favorite Steven Spielberg films!
Did you know this month marks the 60th anniversary of the James Bond movie franchise? If you listen to our podcast I bet you did! Fix yourself a martini and join us as we celebrate six decades of our favorite fictional spy by ranking the Bond actors, naming our ten favorite villains and leading ladies and imagining our own original Bond movies in a 007 draft!
As Sean Connery’s badass imprisoned spy character John Mason says, “Losers are always whining about their best — winners go home and listen to this podcast!” Hell yeah. We’re talking 1996’s ‘The Rock!’ Finally! Fix yourself a martini and join us as we talk Sean Connery’s excellent wig game, Nicolas Cage’s surprising lack of a wig, Ed Harris’ consistent, timeless greatness, Michael Bay and Hans Zimmer really going for it and one of the best supporting casts of any action flick! Then as a bonus segment we all list our five favorite Nicolas Cage movies!
Take a Roger Moore Bond flick, replace 007 with a Cockney kid, add Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Hamill, a cute pug and a Kentucky church Massacre and you pretty much get ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service.’ Fix yourself a martini (stirred, for once, this time) and join us as we dive into Matthew Vaughn’s 2015 franchise-spawning spy romp! And as a bonus we each name our five favorite Colin Firth movies, along with a lot of Firth puns no one asked for!
How does one get away with the ultimate art heist? Sleep with the insurance investigator out to get you — obviously! Mix yourself a martini and join us as we discuss Pierce Brosnan’s non-Bond film from 1999, John McTiernan’s super slick remake of ‘The Thomas Crown Affair!’ And then as a bonus we each list our top five movie remakes!
Forget Iron Man and Captain America! We’re talking John Steed and Emma Peele, the original Avengers! Mix yourself a martini and join us as we dive into the 1998 film adaptation of the ‘60s TV classic, starring Ralph Fiennes, Uma Thurman and Sean Connery! Then as a bonus we each name our top five movies adapted from TV shows!
Allow me to introduce you to the best action movie you’ve probably never heard of starring an actress you probably hate! Oh, and also Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton and not one single stuntman! Pour yourself a scotch and join us as we dive into Steven Soderbergh’s under-seen 2011 action flick and as a bonus list our favorite Soderbergh films! *Note: For this episode Max accidentally recorded directly onto his computer instead of his microphone, so we apologize for the audio quality not always being the greatest.
Can you believe the first Bourne movie was released 20 years ago? Join us as we discuss this modern action classic and count down our top five Matt Damon flicks!
You may know him as a Top Gun, a Legend, or a Last Samurai, but to us he’ll always be our favorite IMF (that stands for the Impossible Mission Force baby!) agent Ethan Hunt! Dude likes masks, motorcycles, very occasionally sex, and boy oh boy Kittridge, my man, have you never seen him very upset. This week Gentlemen Prefer Bonds continues our series of Bond-related titles with a discussion on Brian De Palma’s 1996 blockbuster ‘Mission: Impossible,’ as well as each of our five favorite Tom Cruise movies!
It’s my happening baby and it freaks me out! Gentlemen Prefer Bonds is taking a break from 007 himself and branching out into a mini-series discussing some of our favorite movies that influenced or were influenced by the Bond franchise. This week that means one of the funniest films of the ‘90s — ‘Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery!’ Join us as we unpack all the best ways the film spoofs Bond (as well as pretty much everything else from the the 1960s), debate whether this is the best of the three Powers flicks and, as a bonus, list each of our personal Mount Rushmores of film parodies. We also like to live dangerously…

Remember when Sean Connery remade his own Bond movie 18 years later? Mix yourself a martini and join us as we discuss arcade casinos, your standard expository tango, stealing a president’s eye and the fact that Steven Seagal trained Connery for this movie and it does not show!
