THE SUITCASE- POEM

THE SUITCASE- POEM

The suitcase is a poem about love, power, sacrifice, agency, expectation and ultimately identity.  How we tell the stories of others creates and sets their identity in our minds in ways that may well be inaccurate. Whoever owns the voice controls the narrative. Listen to the voice of our friend in this story ... All poems are available to view on wordbeadbybuki.co.uk
THE HIDDEN THING- POEM

THE HIDDEN THING- POEM

This episode is the first of the Wordbead by Buki Poetry series on identity. For a long-time we have focused on how we present externally especially with platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn which require  that we focus on curating an external story.  The challenge is to look at how we present internally to ourselves. What truths or lies do we perpetuate within ourselves to maintain the world we have built? With The Hidden Thing I explore issues raised by the questions  my daughter asked me in 2018 about her physical features most notably her soft brown curly afro hair.  Her questions made me realise that all children see the things we think are well hidden. Our shame, pain, guilt, disappointment, all the emotions we feel or believe  are well tucked away from their enquiring eyes they internalise if left unaddressed.  Only the truth can sets free.
