Snobbies! We’re back with Cody’s pick for REMAKES and this one is a stone cold classic. Kurt Russell has never been hotter?? Questions mark?? This remake is from a 1951 original called, “The Thing From Another World,” adapted from the 1938 novel, Who Goes There? WE WATCHED Director John Carpenter’s,  “The Thing.” THIS. FILM. RULES!!! We had an absolute blast watching this film. Every once and a while, the Snobs watch a film that just makes us react. The Thing was more psychological than we thought and we loved talking through what makes us human? Who can we trust? What even was this film trying to say? One thing was for sure, this film had EPIC visual effects. Ooey, Gooey, gutsy, visual effects.  Enjoy this legendary film Film Discussed: The Thing (1982) Letterboxd: Eric Peterson: letterboxd.com/EricLPeterson/ Jared Klopfenstein: letterboxd.com/kidchimp/ Ethan Jasso: letterboxd.com/e_unit7/ Caleb Zehr: letterboxd.com/cjzehr/ Ricky Wickham: letterboxd.com/octopuswizard/ Here is a COMPLETE LIST of every film that we have done an episode for. This episode was a blast as the brothers picked a film that we did NOT expect, 2018’s…from director’s John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein…GAME NIGHT! Jason Bateman’s best and most straight man and Jesse Plemons’s absolute most hilarious and awkward roles he’s ever done.  This was such a fun film to talk about and thank you SOOOOOO much to the young snobs that stopped in to chat with us. YOYOYO!!! Snobbies, we are starting a NEW topic this month. This topic is a treat and we are throwing the choice of film and discussion to a few of our lucky, young snobs, in a topic called…YOUNG SNOBS! They will host and drive the pod! This week we have JOHNATHAN, who appeared on the “Good Morning” episode and had a lot of great insights. Back on the scene and only 17 years old! We enjoyed talking about his pick by Director Akira Kurosawa, “Dreams.” This was a collection of recurring dreams that the director had and he put to film. This film Is hard to describe but so so so beautiful to watch, we hope you enjoy it! Good morning SNOBBIES! And welcome back to our episode on Terence Davies month. This week we have Jared’s pick and he decided to go with “The Long Day Closes.” This film has a similar feel and vibe to Distant Voices, Still Lives. In this film we follow the perspective of Bud, a boy in Liverpool in the 1950’s, coming of age around the other family members and the austere Catholic Church as he enters the rigors of school, nurtures a bedazzled love of the movies and longs for companionship. Jared says this is a near perfect film and Terence Davies best film he’s ever made. We dive into childhoods, favorite shots, the Davies Dissolve, and much much more. Enjoy! Hey there Snobbies! This week we continue on our journey with the late Terence Davies and his filmography. This week was Cody’s pick and he chose to go with the director’s last film that he ever made…Benediction. A film that truly has some of the most incredible acting we have ever seen. The film features a war time military man who is put into a mental hospital to quiet his dissenting voice. The film follows the man’s life and love’s. With incredible direction, brutal shots, and beautiful scenery, the film takes you along a path that follows closely with Davies’s own life. We LOVED Benediction and loved talking through it tonight. We hope that you enjoy it as well.  Film Discussed: Benediction (2021) Letterboxd: Eric Peterson: letterboxd.com/EricLPeterson/ Jared Klopfenstein: letterboxd.com/kidchimp/ Ethan Jasso: letterboxd.com/e_unit7/ Caleb Zehr: letterboxd.com/cjzehr/ Ricky Wickham: letterboxd.com/octopuswizard/ Cody Martin : letterboxd.com/codytmartin/ Here is a COMPLETE LIST of every film that we have done an episode for. Wait…no…A Quiet PASSION. That’s it. Okay. This film was very good. A film about Emily Dickinson and what a beautiful and brutal film. Welcome back Snobbies. We are EXCITED to have you back and enjoying another spooky film with us. This week, we have the incomparable, Josh George with us! He joins for the first time ever and we have an interesting one for you. Jared’s pick this week and he chose a legend of a film from 1932, director Tod Browning brings us, “Freaks.” This film deals in the controversial as it features differently abled people and takes place in a circus. The film follows certain characters as they go through circus life. Hans, one of the main characters and who has dwarfism, is infatuated with a female acrobat named Cleopatra and this infatuation gets everyone into a heap of trouble. We freaking loved this film so join us as we dance our way through it and talk about some surprisingly deep topics. Enjoy! Here. We. GOOOOO!! Welcome back to SPOOKTOBER 4, pick #3 by Cody Martin himself. We are excited to talk about this film. This animated EPIC is packed with delicious animation, beautiful shots, and a tragic story. This film is directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri and is called, “Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.” This film, in the words of Cody is the perfect middle ground as it doesn’t feel like a halloween movie made by Disney or an over the top horror flick. WE really had a good time with this film and found it to be the perfect Sppoktober addition to the collection. Enjoy! Film Discussed: Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (2001) Letterboxd: Eric Peterson: letterboxd.com/EricLPeterson/ Jared Klopfenstein: letterboxd.com/kidchimp/ Ethan Jasso: letterboxd.com/e_unit7/ Caleb Zehr: letterboxd.com/cjzehr/ Ricky Wickham: letterboxd.com/octopuswizard/ Cody Martin : letterboxd.com/codytmartin/ Here is a COMPLETE LIST of every film that we have done an episode for. SNOBBIES! Bringing to you SPOOKTOBER #2!! This week we have Eric’s pick and he decided to go the wacky route. If you remember our very first episode SPOOKTOBER #1, where we featured “House,” this film made us feel right at home. GUEST Alec Brunk joined us today as Eric’s first guest on the pod! This film’s director Ricky Lau brings us “Mr. Vampire.” This film from 1985 brought possibly the most laughs we’ve had on this episode. A mixture of killing vampires, sexy ghosts, KungFu vamp slaying,  comedic assistants, misty hill gorillas, hopping undead, I mean…it goes on and on. This film rules and we had such a fun time talking through it. Enjoy! CUE spooky witch laughter and zealous lightening storms!! That’s right! It’s SPOOKTOBER #4!!!! We are PSYCHED! to be back in the SPOOKTOBER atmosphere. Caleb, Cody, and Eric take on Caleb’s pick for tonight (Jared is in Europe…having a terrible time) a film that is melancholic in nature and definitely sets up some sad snobs action. A film directed by LENGENDARY director Lars von Trier, “Melancholia.” This film was seen by all and the rewatch was improved in the eyes of some and sustained in the eyes of others. We talked about artistic shots, mental health, world death, how absolutely strange this film was followed by a discussion on how smart this film was…everything was covered and nothing was covered. Join us on this journey through Melancholia and the mind of Lars von Trier. Enjoy! Film Discussed: Melancholia (2011) Letterboxd: Eric Peterson: letterboxd.com/EricLPeterson/ Jared Klopfenstein: letterboxd.com/kidchimp/ Ethan Jasso: letterboxd.com/e_unit7/ Caleb Zehr: letterboxd.com/cjzehr/ Ricky Wickham: letterboxd.com/octopuswizard/ Cody Martin : letterboxd.com/codytmartin/ Here is a COMPLETE LIST of every film that we have done an episode for. Welcome Snobbies! to the last episode in the ChatGPT series where Artificial Intelligence picks our movies for us. The topic has been a lot of fun and we have seen some really cool films. Tonight we have Jared picking the film from the list ChatGPT gave him. The film that was chosen was from legendary director Éric Rohmer, “A Summer’s Tale.” This film deal with ultra-realism, where the other film we did for this topic, 8 1/2, did surrealism. The film follows a man on his way through the French coast side and his many interactions with women where choices are made for him. We had different opinions about this film, but we all agreed that it was the best of the bunch.  Film Discussed: A Summer’s Tale (1996) Letterboxd: Eric Peterson: letterboxd.com/EricLPeterson/ Jared Klopfenstein: letterboxd.com/kidchimp/ Ethan Jasso: letterboxd.com/e_unit7/ Caleb Zehr: letterboxd.com/cjzehr/ Ricky Wickham: letterboxd.com/octopuswizard/ Cody Martin : letterboxd.com/codytmartin/ Here is a COMPLETE LIST of every film that we have done an episode for. Welcome back Snobbies! It’s another exciting installment of ChatGPT picking our movies for us! This week we have Eric’s pick and he decided to change up the prompt and just ask the AI to give him “10 random movies” and that’s exactly what it gave him! His pick today was from none other than legendary director Martin Scorsese, “The Departed.” This film was a bunch of fun to talk about and heads up….we were a bit loopy on this episode. Not entirely sure why. REGARDLESS! We enjoyed talking through Boston accents, a mired of profanity, good/bad acting, and much much more! We hope you enjoy! Film Discussed: The Departed (2006) Letterboxd: Eric Peterson: letterboxd.com/EricLPeterson/ Jared Klopfenstein: letterboxd.com/kidchimp/ Ethan Jasso: letterboxd.com/e_unit7/ Caleb Zehr: letterboxd.com/cjzehr/ Ricky Wickham: letterboxd.com/octopuswizard/ Cody Martin : letterboxd.com/codytmartin/ Here is a COMPLETE LIST of every film that we have done an episode for. DISCLAIMER: This episode contains sexual content, though not explicit or gratuitous, it is still discussed. ChatGPT is back and it is ready to pick another film for us. CODY IS BACK! and we are happy about it. This week Cody chooses the film that chatGPT gaffes us from another legendary Italian director Federico Fellini, “8 1/2” This film is a film about film and a story about the director himself. A master of the surreal style and arguably the father or surrealism, this film really took us on a journey. The film deals with women, film, life, choices, regret, and love. This film should be watched side-by-side with “Bardo” (2022) a modern masterclass on surrealism. The team is split on this film but we have plenty to talk about. We hope you enjoy!  Discussed in pod “Martin Eden” episode: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-film-snobs/id1538653633?i=1000508169696 Film Discussed: 8 1/2 (1963) Letterboxd: Eric Peterson: letterboxd.com/EricLPeterson/ Jared Klopfenstein: letterboxd.com/kidchimp/ Ethan Jasso: letterboxd.com/e_unit7/ Caleb Zehr: letterboxd.com/cjzehr/ Ricky Wickham: letterboxd.com/octopuswizard/ Cody Martin : letterboxd.com/codytmartin/ Here is a COMPLETE LIST of every film that we have done an episode for. DISCLAIMER: This film talks about sensitive topics such as rape, though not explicit or gratuitous, it is still discussed. WE’RE BACK! That’s right babyyyy, we’re back and we are doing a new topic today. This one we have been waiting to do for a long time now and the time has finally arrived. Caleb brought up the idea that we should let chatGPT pick a film for us to watch. We asked AI “Give us a movie that a film snob would watch.” and we chose from a list of 10. WE originally picked Apocalypse Now….but it did not exist AT ALL on the internet for streaming, renting, or buying! So we chose the classic from legendary director Akira Kurosawa, “Rashomon 羅生門.” A film that inspired a handful of films and most recently “The Last Duel,” which we talk about on pod. A film that is packed with things to talk about, we hope you enjoy! Film Discussed: Rashomon 羅生門 (1950) Letterboxd: Eric Peterson: letterboxd.com/EricLPeterson/ Jared Klopfenstein: letterboxd.com/kidchimp/ Ethan Jasso: letterboxd.com/e_unit7/ Caleb Zehr: letterboxd.com/cjzehr/ Ricky Wickham: letterboxd.com/octopuswizard/ Cody Martin : letterboxd.com/codytmartin/ Here is a COMPLETE LIST of every film that we have done an episode for. Snobbies! Welcome…to the end of Movies Of the Middle East, or MOME as we’ve been calling it. Tonight we have a special guest COLIN! who hasn’t been on the pod since Do The Right Thing two years ago! Tonight’s pick comes from Jared and is by director Nadav Lapid, “Ahed’s Knee.” This film, coming out of Israel, tackles a possibly autobiographical story about something the director went through while featuring a film. The film deals with nationalism, censorship, a director’s voice, as well as many interesting camera choices that had us scratching our heads….sometimes in a good way! Anyway, we enjoyed talking through this film and we hope you Enjoy also!  Film Discussed: Ahed's Knee (2021) Letterboxd: Eric Peterson: letterboxd.com/EricLPeterson/ Jared Klopfenstein: letterboxd.com/kidchimp/ Ethan Jasso: letterboxd.com/e_unit7/ Caleb Zehr: letterboxd.com/cjzehr/ Ricky Wickham: letterboxd.com/octopuswizard/ Cody Martin : letterboxd.com/codytmartin/ Here is a COMPLETE LIST of every film that we have done an episode for. Yoyoyo! Welcome back to MOME! This week we have Eric’s pick for Movies Of the Middle East and it comes from director Hany Abu-Assad, “Paradise Now.” This film is a sobering view on what happens leading up to a suicide bomb attack. We follow two best friends in Palestine as they are chosen to carry out a retaliatory attack against Israel. This film is intensely complex and captures the feelings behind doing what is right vs. something just. The Snobs enjoyed talking through this film with GUEST MATT BOLT! Matt brings some a Middle Eastern opinions and we get into how this film reminded us of Napoleon Dynamite??!
