Happy New Year from Talking Physiotherapy. We are kicking off 2024 by introducing Frank McCartan to the team as Head of Social Media. On this episode we are joined by expert by experience Geoff Render to discuss his experiences and challenges of living with a stroke. We are joined by Megan Brown and Esme Dodwell, two newly qualified band 5 physiotherapists. Having recently graduated from the MSc programme at Bradford University, we got together to discuss their recent primary research projects. Meg captured student physiotherapists experiences with university throughout the covid-19 pandemic. Esme held a focus group which helped voice the experiences of stroke survivors throughout the pandemic.  Meg and Esme share their experiences, as we take a look into the processes involved at each step. Providing helpful tips and tricks to help you navigate the challenges of completing a primary research project. We discuss some of the more difficult steps that students can have difficulties with and offer solutions based of personal experiences. Jen represents physio students on the 'one-hundred and fifty leaders, student leadership programme.' In this episode we dissected the 'Physio Declares' project. Opening the episode we explored the concept of climate health and the role physiotherapy plays within that. As we delve deeper into climate change we discuss how physiotherapy is the 'green' profession in striving for sustainability and self-management all before Jen explains to us the purpose of Physio Declares, it's aims and the what we can do better to tackle climate change as individuals, in our organisations and on a wider societal level.

Welcome back to The Student Physio Podcast. This week we are joined by Stephen Mutch. In this episode, we discuss an origin story, our new relationship with ACPSEM (Physios in Sport), the ACPSEM Spring Conference on 25th and 26th March, and plans going forward. Stephen is chair of ACPSEM and has had a variety of jobs including working in NHS, private and sporting settings and has a great deal of experience in professional rugby, having worked with Scotland rugby for 20 years and more recently with the Irish national team as the lead physio, he has also worked at 13 multisport games representing Great Britain. Currently, ACPSEM is rolling out a new platform for developing your portfolio, this will allow students and physios to upload CPD from a variety of sources such as Podcasts and Youtube in order to demonstrate ongoing learning.

In this episode we discuss an origin story, with a background of jobs leading up to life as a physiotherapy lecturer. Claire and Michael headed the physiotherapy programme at the University of Bradford and are the co-creators of the Mphysiotherapy - Sports and Exercise Medicine programme which we are students of. They have recently left the University and started a new business venture with Neoniq Training Solutions. Neoniq will offer unique placement opportunities for students of many healthcare professions allowing early exposure to the wider multi-disciplinary team.

This episodes begins with our own reflections of settling into first year and the experiences we had both individually and collectively. Antonia then provides us with an insight into her previous job roles and interests as well as her current experiences being a mature student and how she is finding life both as a student whilst caring for her children. Similarly, Sahiba describes her own responsibilities caring for her father and how that influenced her choice of profession and university. Each of our guests, as well as ourselves offer our opinions of how helping students to settle in could be further improved for cohorts in the future.
