Speaker: Sarah Gardner, Clinical Lead Tissue Viability Nurse, Oxford and Penny Rubio, Clinical Lead Tissue Viability Nurse, Oxford
Join Sarah and Penny as they reflect on current issues and hot topics around lower leg conditions, the importance of a holistic assessment and the nervousness many nurses feel about compression and the dreaded doppler! They offer guidance about nutrition and the theory/practice gap, and discuss how the Legs Matter campaign has made such a difference to patients who have these conditions.

Speakers: Sarah Gardner, Clinical Lead Tissue Viability Nurse, Oxford and Penny Rubio, Clinical Lead Tissue Viability Nurse, Oxford
“Jimmy Choos or compression bandaging, which would you choose!?” In this podcast, Sarah and Penny consider the issue of patient non-concordance, how sometimes the label is added unfairly, and hear how ‘motivational interviewing’ made the difference for Penny with some of her patients. Both of these lead TVNs agree that teaching patients about their condition may not be a regular part of a treatment plan, however explaining care options to patients and letting them have a degree of autonomy when it comes to their treatment, can go a long way to getting them on board, especially when Jimmy Choos are unfortunately not an option.

Speakers: Fran Spratt, Acute lead TVN in Hampshire and Caryn Carr, Community lead TVN in Hampshire
In this podcast you’ll hear Fran and Caryn discuss the role dressings play in wound healing, and what they say when asked the age old question ‘‘what dressing do I put on this pressure ulcer? This leg ulcer? This wet wound?’’. They also talk about the National Wound Care Strategy Programme, patient discharge issues, how the patient’s quality of life should be of prime importance, and whether the initial assessment of the whole patient holds the key to unlocking this mystery.
