MacFest in the West is a gathering of the descendants of the McNicholas and MacDonagh families of Barnacogue and Curryaune, Swinford.The McNicholas/McDonagh Swinford story began when Owen McDonagh and Nora Morris of Tyrone migrated to Barnacogue at the turn of the 19th Century where Owen opened a Blacksmith forge.They had nine children, Kitty, Maria, Nancy, Patrick, Tom, John, Bryan, Judith and Margaret. Their daughter Judith McDonagh married Thomas McNicholas of Curryane and settled in Barnacogue.by Julie Doyle, Jackie O’Rourke and Joanne Kilroy of Swinford, who are descendants of Thomas and Judith McNicholas, in conjunction with www.mayo.ie.

On this week's episode we are joined by Fiona Murphy who tells us a fascinating story about her father John Murphy. Fiona talks of how her father  insisted on visiting Moore’s pub every time he came home. John wrote a play in 1958 called The Country Boy. It was performed in 1959 by the Group Theatre company in Belfast, and more than a month later at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. We also have music from the Woods Brothers from Meelick. 
On this week's episode we are joined by Stephanie Maloney and Natasha Ginty to give us an update on The Butterfly Garden in Swinford. We have music from Alannah Thornburgh who is nominated in the RTÉ Folk Awards this week.

"Irish Mist" formed in the late 1970’s, taking part in national competitions, performing at weddings and festivals while also raising funds for local charities. They are noted for their success at the Slogadh competition and were the first winners of the Síamsa Sráide Busking Competition. The group features Monica Benson, Mary, Joan and Nuala Grealy, Michelle Campbell, Francie McNicholas, Angela Campbell and Marian Thornburgh.
