Description
She Runs Ultras is about (yup, you guessed it) running ultras. Lots of other running podcasts out there are full of gear & race reviews and interviews with the experts telling unrelatable stories about their record breaking times and super human feats. Now…don’t get me wrong, I’ve learned some great stuff from those podcasts...But what about those of us that aren’t getting paid to do this? Those of us that are mid to back of the pack runners? And those of us that have never won a damn thing? What was out there for us? Yeah, I couldn’t find it - so I decided to make it! And it just so happens that I’m getting geared up to start training for some races in 2021. So throughout this series, I’ll share what really happens when a typical, non-professional runner takes on the challenge of running an ultra. Got some races planned for this year? Let’s train together. From the emotional & physical ups and downs, to the details of my actual training plan, and the excitement (not to mention nerves) that build as race day gets closer...I promise not to hold anything back. So whether you’re already a member of the ultra community or if you’re just ultra curious...Hit subscribe and let’s do this!

What happens when you finish a 50K…but the official results say otherwise? That’s exactly what happened to me back in May when I ran the Bloodroot 50K. I crossed the finish line. I’ve got the pictures & the Garmin data to prove it. But a couple weeks later, a former client emailed me to say: “Not sure if you know this, but UltrasignUp has you listed as a DNF.” Cue five months of back-and-forth with Spartan (the race organizer), unanswered emails, dead ends, and more marketing emails...
We’ve all been there… You take one day off from training. Then one day turns into two. Two turns into seven. And before you know it, weeks have gone by and your race is right around the corner. Cue the “oh shit” moment. If your race is only 6–8 weeks away and your training has completely fallen apart, what do you do? Do you just throw in the towel? Or is there a way to right the ship and get yourself back on track? In this episode, I’m walking you through a step-by-step process to help you fi...
Flat terrain? No problem. Learn how to train for race-day climbs with the tools you already have. Think you can’t train for an ultra with elevation because you live in the city or someplace flat? Think again. 🏙️⛰️ In this episode, I’m breaking down how to prepare for the ups and downs of race day—even if your “hills” look more like parking garage ramps or stairwells. You’ll learn: 👉 Why you must understand your race profile before you train 👉 How to make the most of the hills (or tiny bumps) ...

Be honest, have you ever gone down the rabbit hole 🕳️ searching for the perfect checklist that will tell you you’re officially ready to run your first ultra? Yeah, me too. I used to think there had to be some step-by-step guide out there that would prove I’d trained enough, learned enough, and was ready to show up at the start line. Spoiler: that magical checklist doesn’t exist. In this episode, I’m breaking down: ✨ Why generic checklists will always fall short ✨ How chasing them only fuels s...
I've run this race 3 times now and even though the course never changes, it's always a challenge! The Ragged 75 Stage Race is three consecutive days of running around in the woods of New Hampshire and I would highly recommend it. This year, I faced some heat related issues on day three and I want to share a strategy that you can use to help dig yourself out of a deep mental spiral. ⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT 🔥 JOIN THE SHE RUNS ULTRAS COACHING MEMBERSHIP...
In this episode I'm chatting with Natasha Swartley. After retiring from the Navy, she turned her sights to something different - ultra running and more specifically being a race medic. She's got some amazing stories to tell...amongst them...tales about her first 200 mile race, the Tahoe 200. Stay tuned until the end to hear her pro-tips for ultra success - straight from the point of view of a medic! Enjoy! Click here to follow Natasha on Instagram Click he...

Jess Greene is BACK and this time we're not talking about a 200 mile race, but a 300 mile race! Listen as we talk about the many aspects of racing 300 miles. You’ve heard of bears, moose, and maybe even the occasional skunk sighting on a run...But have you ever been chased by a woodchuck? 🫠 In this episode, I’m telling the wild (and slightly ridiculous) story of how a peaceful 10-mile road run turned into a full-tilt downhill sprint—with a woodchuck in hot pursuit. We’re talking: The exact moment I realized I was being chasedWhat went through my head mid-sprint (hint: it includes ER scenarios)A truckload of witnesses and a yellow lab 🛻My post-wood...
You missed a workout. Your knee feels weird. You forgot your gels. Cue the internal freak-out... right? In this episode, we’re talking about something that every runner deals with—making things a way bigger deal than they actually are. Whether it's a bad run, a missed session, or some mid-race drama, it's so easy to spin out and convince yourself that your entire race is doomed. (Spoiler alert: it’s not.) I'll share a couple stories that will illustrate my point (both in day-to-day life and i...
What is your limit? In this tough-love episode, I’m sharing a question that’s been bouncing around in my head as I train for Moab 240—and why it might just change the way you think about your running (and your life). We’re talking self-imposed limits, fear of failure, DNFs, and why most runners never even get close to discovering what they’re truly capable of. If you’ve ever thought “I could never do that…”—this one’s for you. Hit play and let’s go there. 👊 ⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAI...
In this episode we're talking about the "C" word of ultra running...2 of them actually. They are: Countdown & Consistency. We'll talk about the importance of both, how they are intertwined, and why they are crucial to your ultra running success. I'm also sharing some of what the She Runs Ultras Crew has been up to and what we're planning for 2026 (and how you can get in on the action!) ⭐️ GET THE FREE ULTIMATE 50K TRAINING TOOLKIT 🔥 JOIN THE SHE RUNS ULTRAS COACHING MEMBERSH...
In this episode, I recap my day at the rainy, rocky, and rooty Drummer Hill 50K—a small, looped trail race in New Hampshire with surprise crew support, soaking wet trails, and a whole lotta mud. I break down each lap, from smooth sailing in lap one to survival mode in lap four (spoiler: it rained *a lot*). We talk slippery bridges, mental battles, perimenopause aches, and why this race was all about practicing—not racing. Plus, a shoutout to bug spray, quesadillas, and the power of showing up...
At the gym the other day, someone asked me: “Got any advice for a fat guy who wants to start running… asking for a friend?” 😄 That sparked a convo about something I always teach runners—whether you’re training for your first 5K or your first 100-miler: 👉 Start with walking. 👉 Build from there. 👉 Use the Walk/Run Gradient. In this episode, I’m breaking down my favorite strategy for building endurance without wrecking your body in the process. We’re talking about: Why walking workouts absolutel...
What if the only thing standing between you and your big, scary goal… was the question you’ve been asking yourself? In this episode, I’m digging into one of the most powerful mindset shifts I’ve made as a runner and a coach: asking better questions. You’ll hear how I used to sabotage my own progress, why “Why can’t I do this?” is the worst, and how to reframe your thinking so you actually move forward. If you’ve been stuck, plateaued, or in full-on beat-yourself-up mode lately… this one’s for...
In this episode of She Runs Ultras, I’m diving into the topic of racing ultras close together—specifically, why I’m running two 50Ks just four weeks apart, how I’m managing my training in between, and what I recommend if you find yourself in a similar situation. Last week, I shared the behind-the-scenes of my Bloodroot 50K finish (spoiler alert: it was a grind but worth it!). Now, I’ve got another 50K on deck for next weekend, so I thought it would be super helpful to talk through: Why I’m do...
