Trigger Warning: Pregnancy and Infant Loss As we hold moms who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss in our hearts, there is another group of women who struggle in silence without support. Many women have had to make the impossible decision to terminate a pregnancy for medical reasons. Unfortunately, these women aren’t shown the same support after their loss because their decision is oftentimes seen as controversial or wrong. In this episode, we sit down with women who have experienced pregnancy loss as they share their stories about what it was like to make these decisions and how it has shaped them into who they are today. What would you tell your younger self if you could let them know anything in the whole world? Our own lives were shaped by a laundry list of things: parents, culture, where we lived, and that has affected us, for better or worse, and the person we are today. Now that we have kids of our own and share our knowledge of the past, there are so many things we might have done differently. In this episode, we talk about how our current views on life can help us raise strong, independent, and wonderful human beings in relationship to the things we have learned from our past selves. Now that cannabis is legal in many states, moms are turning to using it in many forms to ease the strain of postpartum depression, anxiety, and the daily stresses of motherhood. But we know that using cannabis in any way still carries a stigma with it and moms are fighting back. Moms today have a million things they are “supposed” to do. We take care of the kids from morning to night, clean every surface multiple times a day, and cook healthy meals for our families. But beyond that, society now expects us to be better for ourselves: self care, meditation, exercise, journaling. There simply aren’t enough hours in a day to do everything. In this episode, our panel of moms discusses how we can do less in order to do more, and ways to avoid feeling the societal pressure to constantly be on the go. Patience is running thin these days and cancel culture is running rampant. People are quick to judge others and rarely wait for an opportunity for redemption or apology before sending them to be cancelled. But is eliminating a person, place, or thing really the best way to handle these difficult situations? In this episode we talk about how cancel culture has evolved into what it is today, why we find parts of it to be problematic, and how we can do better together. Community is what you make of it, and everyone at some point has been the outsider. Sometimes we find ourselves going outside our comfort zone to seek connection, and other times it just happens organically. It’s obvious we are all experiencing it to some degree, and we sit down with a group of Detroit Moms to discuss what community means to them. Panel: Elizabeth @iamelizabethlewis, Kristen @houseofbaffo, Jasmine @mahoganyhope, Tiphany @tiphanis.epiphany, JeeYoung @simplyeveryblog, Monique @moniquethestylist, Scarlett @scarlettlongstreet Read more from our contributors at www.detroitmom.com
There is a new modern family today and we look at what co-parenting looks like for this panel of Detroit moms. How we became parents, and how we grew up are unique to all of us. Some of us started our parenting journey on our own, and some of us followed what some consider the “traditional” way. In this episode, we discuss our decisions and challenges along the way.
