🎨 Jacques-Louis David is renowned for his grandiose paintings of Napoleon, as well as for being a leader of the neoclassical movement. Interestingly, his first choice was to bring back classical themes, such as Greek mythology. However, because of his involvement in the French Revolution, he started painting contemporary situations, such as “The Coronation of Napoleon”, which ironically made him one of the most avant-garde painters of his generation. This year, the Louvre Museum is celebrating the bicentennial of his death with a major exhibition. 🎈 Flying had long been a dream of humankind. Yet it was only in the 18th century—the Age of Enlightenment, when science became a source of deep fascination—that this dream turned into reality. Thanks to the Montgolfier brothers who discovered that a balloon filled with hot air could rise above the colder air of the atmosphere. This simple but revolutionary insight made it possible for humans, for the first time in history, to leave the ground and take flight. 🎥 Louis Malle, a French film director renowned for his inquisitive spirit and stylistic audacity, his versatility and diversity of themes, and the contentious debates his choices sparked. Malle’s work never neatly conformed to any particular movement, but it often aligned with the Nouvelle Vague.
