Here is Episode 3 of the Clark County Today Sports Podcast. This week, we welcome our first guest. In preparation for Mat Classic, we talk to the greatest wrestling coach in Union High School history, John Godinho. (Yes, he is the only wrestling coach in school history, but still, he’s pretty great.) This episode, reporter Paul Valencia, along with sports administrators Cale Piland of Evergreen Public Schools and Tony Liberatorre of Vancouver Public Schools talk Mat Classic wrestling, all-league and the controversy surrounding all-league selections, the shot clock in high school basketball, some Super Bowl gloating for some, and mourning for another, and we talk about passionate sports projects. Our friend and baseball nerd John Scukanec was featured in Clark County Today this week for his quest to play catch with someone for 365 days in a row. Hope you enjoy the podcast. We are always open for subject ideas. Clark County Today Sports Podcast, March 28, 2024: Have fun this spring break, a talk about spring sports scheduling, and happy opening day MLB fans. https://tinyurl.com/3wtmnvt9 Reporter Paul Valencia and sports administrators Tony Liberatore and Cale Piland talk about high school sports and more. By Paul Valencia with ClarkCountyToday.com Welcome back to the Clark County Today Sports Podcast. In this episode, we talk about the calm before the storm. It’s spring sport season for high schools, but most teams are about to take a break for spring break. Then it will be time for the stretch run. Oh, and this year will be the traditional spring sports championship schedule. Next year, though, the WIAA is changing the schedule. We also talk about state football championships returning to Husky Stadium for the next two seasons. Then we get into Major League Baseball, March Madness, and for some reason, old-school USFL. The podcast format is simple. Tony Liberatore of Vancouver Public Schools and Cale Piland of Evergreen Public Schools give their thoughts, along with Clark County Today reporter Paul Valencia. Liberatore and Piland are longtime sports administrators. And Valencia has been a sports reporter in the region for more than 20 years. We lead with high school sports. Then talk college and pro, too. And usually a few light items beyond sports. We’re always interested in subject ideas for a future podcast. Email us a subject idea. Clark County Today Sports Podcast, March 6, 2024: A salute to the Camas girls basketball team, and a welcome to In n Out Burger. Reporter Paul Valencia and sports administrators Tony Liberatore and Cale Piland talk about high school sports and more . By Paul Valencia with ClarkCountyToday.com. Welcome back to the Clark County Today Sports Podcast. In this episode, we salute the Camas girls basketball team. A team on a mission ever since last year’s loss in the championship game. This year? The Papermakers are state champions. We discuss this great team, and a little behind the scenes of how Clark County Today was able to produce a special video of the team celebrating that championship. We also talk about the state tourney in general, storming the court in high school vs. college, and we get into what could be the biggest news in Clark County history: In n Out Burger is on the way! (And a clarification: I love Burgerville and appreciate its local roots. I just find In n Out Burger, and its pricing, to be better suited for me!) We’re always interested in subject ideas for a future podcast. We recorded this episode a few days after one of the biggest days in Clark County high school wrestling history, with seven state champions, including four from Skyview. Clark County Today Sports Podcast, Feb. 22, 2024: A salute to wrestling champions and a look ahead to state basketball Reporter Paul Valencia and sports administrators Tony Liberatore and Cale Piland talk about high school sports and more By Paul Valencia with ClarkCountyToday.com Welcome back to the Clark County Today Sports Podcast. We say congrats to all the Clark County wrestlers who won state championships at Mat Classic, including four champions from Skyview. What a night! We also discuss the upcoming state basketball tournaments, seeding, and yes, the ridiculous RPI announcements from the WIAA that means absolutely nothing. Yes, we touched on that on our last episode, but we returned to the subject because of the confusion that the WIAA allows when posting RPI every week, even though the selection committee does not use the RPI! Stop the madness! And we recap the Super Bowl, which was a terrible matchup for a couple of us. Welcome back to the Clark County Today Sports Podcast. Perfect timing, right? We recorded this episode just an hour or so after Union announced that Steve Pyne is the school’s next football coach. You know, Steve Pyne, the five-time Oregon state champion coach from Central Catholic. Pyne resigned from Central Catholic to coach at Union? Wow! That was worthy of discussion. We also talk about the WIAA and RPI and how RPI is just something to get a conversation started. Nothing else. It is not used for seeding purposes toward state tournaments anymore. Oh, and then we talk high school football scheduling, with the news that Columbia River and Skyview are not scheduled to play each other in the fall of 2024. And, of course, we have Super Bowl talk. Not a fun matchup for our hosts. We don’t care for these teams, but we will always celebrate the national sport of football. We’re always interested in subject ideas for a future podcast.
