The end of 2025 saw the first bear hunt in Florida in a decade. It was a long and arduous journey with plenty of opposition from the anti hunting community that still continues to this day. 2026 will see the introduction of hounds in the form of a training season and then in 2027 they’ll get their real introduction when they’re allowed to be used to pursue bears. This year saw baiting legalized on private lands and a successful harvest of 52 bears during the 22 day season. Listen, I’m not all that much into fishing. Don’t get me wrong , I enjoy it but it just doesn't hold my attention like hunting does. I don’t have any real desire to hunt a high fence ranch but you’d have to drag me away from a stocked catfish pond with a good bite going kicking and screaming. We’ve been taking a lot of squirrel hunting lately and there’s no reason to stop now. Did you know that Squirrel meat is some of the most nutrient dense wild game meat there is? Not to mention they’re absolutely delicious. To top it all off they’ll teach you quite a bit about the deer woods if you let them.   If you’ve been following this show for a while now you know as we get into the thanksgiving and Christmas season we generally take a Monday off from the regularly scheduled shows and rebroadcast some of our favorite shows from earlier in the season. Let's kick this week off with a little back story. I’ve known Kyle and Ian for close to 30 years and we grew up together building tree forts, playing paintball and getting into trouble together. Alright everyone we’re back in action this week and kicking things off with Leland Brown of the North American Lead Free Partnership. They are a hunter-led conservation alliance, working to reduce wildlife exposure to lead by promoting voluntary use of non-lead ammunition. Now you might scoff at the thought of jumping to a copper bullet this fall but Leland has the data to prove the Effectiveness of these copper solids which we talk plenty on in the show. Regardless, it's our job as hunters to be stewards of the land before, during and after the kill.
