Today I am joined by the 'voice of the British summer' in BBC Test Match Specials 'Dan Norcross'. He's had a beyond fascinating life; from being suspended at Cambridge University to; playing pub quiz machines for a living for two years, benefiting from the internet boom, setting up the infamous test match sofa (a no hold barred - drunken / ranty rival to TMS) only to get in a legal battle with the BBC, who in a weird twist of fate ended up being his eventual employers to help him achieve his dream!
Today I am joined by the accidental viral superstar and American crickets great new hope in Eli Robinson. Eli comes from Knoxville Tennessee however upon moving to New York to work for a tech company, he was sent out to Melbourne Australia for a 6 month work placement. This is where he fell in love with the game and upon returning to NY, delivered an evening lecture to his colleagues called 'Cricket for American's. Luckily somebody filmed the whole lecture and uploaded it to youtube and it has amassed hundreds of thousands of views - today we hear this incredible story of accidental virality and success.
Iain Dale is better known nowadays as the multi award winning broadcaster( who's recently won' Radio Presenter of the Year' twice) and the voice of the most listened to talk radio station in the country - LBC. However, Iain has had a rich and varied life, from standing three times unsuccessfully to get elected as an MP for the Conservatives, to running his own publishing company, being a shipping journalist, running PR for the ports authority, owning a political bookshop in Westminster, being a lifeguard in Germany, almost being sick on Maggie Thatcher and being former Tory leader David Davis's Chief of Staff. Today, it was my absolute honour to be able to sit down with Iain for over an hour and discuss the highs and lows of this quite incredible career to date. Iain was incredible generous with his time and even more so with the way in which he recounted his failures, successes and regrets. I am so excited to welcome on the show today, the wonderful and multi talented - author, broadcaster and special advisor Mr Peter Cardwell. Today we're joined by one of the most spectacular young human beings in this country in Mr George King. At the age of 19 he managed to climb what was then Europes tallest building in 'The Shard', an incredible achievement, but made even more remarkable with the fact that he used no - ropes, assistance, insurance etc - it was a free climb! Upon summiting the dizzy 310 metre height of the Shard he was congratulated then cautioned by the police at the top and then let free to go. Sadly the Shard legal team pressed charges, which resulted in a 100 grand court case and eventually George facing a 6 month jail sentence at HMP Pentonville - Britains toughest jail!
