Welcome to a new year of the Podcats, the official podcast of Wilmington High School's AV Club. Located in Wilmington, Illinois, Wilmington High School is home to just over 400 students, some of whom contribute their talents to the AV Club, writing scripts, recording movies, editing footage, and recording podcasts. In this bonus episode, we meet and get to know one of the latest editions to the AV Club, Evan, a high school freshman who is also the current reigning Mr. WHS. Congratulations, Evan!

It's been a while! In this latest episode of the Book and Its Quill campaign, we meet a new player: Evan, the current reigning Mr. WHS and subject of our last episode. That guy's going places! He's playing a scarecrow who finds himself on a boat. Did you ever watch Parks and Rec on NBC? One of the characters on that show is Andy, played by Chris Pratt, and he used to be in a rock band that was called Mouse Rat--but before that it was called Scarecrow Boat. Probably just a coincidence. Anyways, I think this is more of a side quest than the main adventure--however, since I'm not DMing this game, I could be wrong. It's up to Ren to decide how this fits into the story. I was planning on getting my character, Woodsy the Owlfolk ranger, into the mix, but it never felt like quite the right time to do that. But we're going to be playing once more before Christmas break, and I'm sure I'll make an appearance in that game. By the way, we tried some new microphones, and there's a bit of an echo. I eliminated some of it by fiddling with the noise gate settings on Audacity, but I don't think I fully took care of the problem. I apologize for that, and I hope to have the next episode sounding better.  Also, Spotify is claiming that this podcast is listened to in five different countries: the US, India, Australia, Egypt, and Colombia! How is that true? To all of those listeners, I want to respectively say, "Thanks for listening," "Sunane ke lie dhanyavaad," "Thanks again for listening," "Shukran ealaa al'iinsat," and "Gracias por su atención!"

Our adventurers delve deeper into the mystery of the goo rats, but what will they find in the mysterious city underground? Join Scratcher the Warforged barbarian, Riley the human cleric, Woodsy the Owlfolk ranger, and a still unnamed Changeling who seems to like looking like a fish. Once again, our adventure was created and dm'ed by Ren, and the character players are Gwen, Tanner, Mr. McGee, and Tyler, respectively. And when this episode drops on June 4, 2021, the Wilmington Podcats will be on summer break! We should be back in the fall, and we might even record and release something over the summer, depending on our schedules. Thanks for listening! Welcome to a special episode of the Wilmington Podcats. Sometimes on our podcast we discuss movies, TV shows, or video games. However, on this episode, we’re doing something very different: we’re transforming for now into an actual play podcast in which the Podcats will be playing 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons.  Our characters in this episode are Scratcher the Warforged barbarian (played by Gwen), Riley the human cleric (played by Tanner), Woodsy the Owlfolk ranger (played by Mr. McGee), and a mysterious unnamed changeling (played by Tyler). We begin an original adventure both created and dungeon mastered by Ren. Please enjoy the first episode of this adventure entitled “The Book and Its Quill.”

To celebrate May 14, 2021, (the day before graduation at WHS, the beginning of what looks to be a nice weekend, and the birthday of David Byrne, Cate Blanchett, and Amber Tamblyn) the Podcats have released this previously Patreon-exclusive bonus episode, wherein Mr. McGee reads thought-provoking questions from 1987's New York Times bestseller The Book of Questions by biophysicist Gregory Stock, PhD. and then Podcats regular Tanner and first-time guests Mikey and Aaron offer their insightful answers.

In episode 9 of our podcast, the Podcats discuss the fourth episode of the first season of Stranger Things, which is entitled "The Body." Things get a little chaotic as school announcements interrupt our discussion, Mr. McGee considers editing out the announcements but never actually gets around to doing that, Ren makes some big announcements about playing Dungeons and Dragons on upcoming episodes, and Tanner explains details of important video games and eats his lunch. Also, in honor of the titular body of "The Body," the fake Will Byers corpse, there is a quiz on pseudocide, which basically means faking one's death.  

On this episode, Mr. McGee is joined by Tanner, Ren, and recent addition to the AV Club Evan, who joins the show remotely, in a discussion of Stranger Things season one episode three which is entitled "Chapter Three: Holly, Jolly." Also, Mr. McGee quizzes the Podcats on MKUltra, the super-secret series of CIA experiments on mind control, or rather its representation in other media, such as movies, TV shows, music and video games. By the way, the recording of this episode was interrupted by a pleasant visit from an administrator, but thanks to the magic of Mr. McGee's editing skills, listeners will not be bored by talk of SD cards, editing software, and what the AV Club hopes will be brand new and technologically up-to-date video cameras. 

The second episode of Stranger Things season one is called "The Weirdo on Maple Street." Is this a reference to Eleven? Is she the weirdo? I wouldn't want to call her an insulting name like "weirdo" but she certainly is unique. And do the Wheelers even live on Maple Street? And is that title supposed to be reminiscent of that classic Twilight Zone episode "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street"? Whatever the case, the Podcats discuss the episode, from a variety of perspectives, as Mr. McGee has seen every season of Stranger Things, Ren is halfway through the first season, and Tanner has only seen the first two episodes. Also, Mr. McGee quizzes Ren and Tanner on monsters from the original Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual. 

On this episode, the Podcats begin their discussion of the hit Netflix show Stranger Things, starting with "Chapter One: The Vanishing of Will Byers." Also, Mr. McGee quizzes Tanner on November 6, 1983, the specific day that Will Byers vanished.

Mr. McGee is joined by Emilia in a discussion of the 2017 movie It: Chapter One. They cover their histories of watching horror movies, and there's even a quiz on Stephen King. In addition, episode five also recognizes two big observances this week at WHS: Amy's Corner Week and School Counselor Week. The Podcats would like to recognize our school counselors who have a huge impact on helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Furthermore, since 2005 the Salaba family has donated over $60,000 and 4,800 books to the WHS library in honor of Amy Salaba, a 2003 graduate of WHS who loved reading. The Podcats would like to thank the Salaba family for their continued support of WHS. 

The Podcats discuss the movie Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. In addition, there is a quiz on Marvel parody characters in the Spider-Ham universe, and the Podcats discuss other possible Spider-People from the infinite possibilities of the Spiderverse.

Merry Christmas! Just in time for the holidays, it's another episode of the Podcats. On this episode, the Podcats discuss one of the most popular video games ever: Minecraft. We cover the basics of the game, recent speed run controversies, and creative vs. survival mode, and we finish the show with a quiz on food items available in the game and the various effects they can have.
