Jacob Erwin Wetterling was an American boy from St. Joseph, Minnesota who was kidnapped from his hometown and murdered at the age of 11 on October 22, 1989. His abduction remained a mystery for nearly 27 years.

Unlike the previous cults we have discussed, Heaven’s Gate falls on to a different spectrum. It didn’t have scandals or allegations of abuse that led to its downfall. It didn’t have a siege or was claiming to be something it was not. Heaven’s Gate was an American UFO religious cult that believed they would be taken to a extra terrestrial spacecraft when they received a ‘sign’. That ‘sign’ came in 1997 when Comet Hale-Bopp passed Earth on its path toward the sun. What did the members do ? NXIVM was an American sex cult that engaged in sex trafficking while claiming to be a multi-level marketing company. Based in Clifton Park, New York, a suburb of Albany, the group claimed to offer personal and professional development seminars through its "Executive Success Programs" of large-group awareness training. The Garden, formerly known as Shut Up and Grow It, is commune that claims to be egalitarian, alternative, leaderless (leaderful), community, propagating a culture of sharing, freedom, and cooperation. But with recent traction on TikTok from user @treeisalive, users are now starting to believe this commune just might be that start of a cult like Jonestown or The Manson Family.... A religious group originating in the 50s, The Branch Davidians were founded based on Victor Houteff’s prophecy of an imminent apocalypse involving the Second Coming of Jesus.
