We always appreciate how Bill Maher is able to call out the stupidity that exists on both the left and the right.  We discussed the $3 million settlement reached with the city of Loveland after a federal civil rights lawsuit was filed after officers violently arrested her in June 2020 On the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. 20 years ago, 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked 4 airliners, three of which hit their targets: Tower 1 and Tower 2 of the World Trade Center as well as the Pentagon. On Friday (August 6), conservative host Ben Shapiro went against MSNBC’s Malcolm Nance during a discussion on ‘critical race theory’ and other matters. The fierce debate was aired on the ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ show. It was 12 years ago next week when Art Laffer, a Republican economist with an unfortunate track record, came up with an argument he thought might be effective against the Affordable Care Act, which was still taking shape at the time.  "If you like the Post Office and the Department of Motor Vehicles and you think they're run well," Laffer said, "just wait till you see Medicare, Medicaid and health care done by the government." --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nodekorum/support
The Trump Administration negotiated an agreement with Taliban in 2020 providing for the withdrawal of U.S. Forces from Afghanistan by May 2021, as part of which the Taliban promised not to deliberatively attack U.S. troops during the withdrawal period.  Since then, the Taliban has been steadily gaining control over provinces in the county, and civilian casualties have been rising. Was it pure fantasy that the US was maintaining the peace --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nodekorum/support

Texans are often accused of an over-inflated sense of self, and they rarely make nuanced political gestures. The standoff over voting rights in Texas may end up offering proof the state can influence policies beyond its own borders. The latest tactic by Democrats in the Texas House of Representatives to protect the voting rights of their constituents by leaving the state to stop restrictive legislation will either be a catalyst for an historic national law or set up a devastating defeat for supporters of expanded voting right. As historian Timothy Snyder, philosopher Jason Stanley and former Republican insider Mike Lofgren have also warned, the U.S. is teetering at the edge of fascism. With "It Can Happen Here," Hinton brings his knowledge and experience to bear on a dynamic history of the Trump administration — taking his readers inside his classroom, to white power rallies and to his own testimony at the Chea trial. One of the book's strengths is its accessibility. Written with literary style rather than in dry academic prose, it makes for fascinating, albeit deeply disturbing, reading --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nodekorum/support
Governor Greg Abbott today signed seven pieces of legislation into law to protect Second Amendment Rights in Texas. The Governor was joined for the bill signing ceremony by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Dade Phelan, Senators Donna Campbell, Brandon Creighton, Charles Schwertner, and Drew Springer, Representatives Giovanni Capriglione, Cole Hefner, Tom Oliverson, Matt Schaefer, David Spiller, and other members of the legislature, as well as representatives of the National Rifle Association. The event, organized by country rapper Justin Time, took place in Blue Holler Offroad Park and drew a crowd of tens of thousands, doubling the population of the unincorporated town of Ollie, which is so small it does not have a stoplight. Redneck Rave promoters bragged that they had sold more than 20,000 tickets. The lengthy getdown, advertised as the “biggest country party you’ll ever go to,” boasted a demolition derby, goldfish racing, and a full-scale football game as well as a series of concerts. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nodekorum/support
In this conversation with Ted we discuss Benefits of Medicare 4 all, pitfalls, can America afford to pay for it or not and how it will be administered. Also Gun laws of Texas.   Ask someone what they think about the idea of “Medicare for All” — that is, one national health insurance plan for all Americans — and you’ll likely hear one of two opinions: One, that it sounds great and could potentially fix the country’s broken healthcare system. Or two, that it would be the downfall of our country’s (broken) healthcare system. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nodekorum/support

Congresswoman Katie Porter dismantles the argument that high drug prices help fund research and development for new and better drugs. “It’s true that pharmaceutical companies spend money on research and development, but it is not correct that that is the primary reason that they double, and triple and quadruple raising the prices of these drugs - it’s to profit their shareholders,” she says. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nodekorum/support
Jerusalem has been the scene of violent confrontations between Jews and Arabs for 100 years and remains one of the most bitterly contested cities on earth. The latest clashes began a month ago with an Israeli move to block some Palestinian gatherings at the beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, already a time of heightened religious sensitivities. After those restrictions eased, tensions over a plan to evict dozens of Palestinians from an east Jerusalem neighborhood continued to fuel confrontations. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nodekorum/support
“Enough is enough,” Cruz said in the op-ed. “Corporations that flagrantly misrepresent efforts to protect our elections need to be called out, singled out and cut off.”  Cruz has raised more than $2.4 million from corporate PACs since he was first elected to the Senate in 2011, according to data from Open Secrets. While it is popular for Democrats to disavow corporate PAC donations, only one other Republican in Congress, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, has made a similar pledge. His 65-minute speech, the most important since his inauguration 99 days ago, could be summed up with three Bs: Big (in ambition), Boring (at times) and Bipartisan (or maybe not so much, judging by Republican grimaces). Rudy Giuliani’s cellphones and other electronic devices were seized by federal agents on Wednesday as part of the investigation into his business dealings in Ukraine. And the raid on the Manhattan home and office of the former personal attorney to ex-President Donald Trump prompted plenty of people on Twitter to crack the same kind of gag about his inadvertent penchant for butt-dialing reporters.  The story headlined, "Kam On In: Solo kids at border welcomed with copy of veep's book," claimed that migrant children at a shelter in Long Beach, California, were receiving copies of Harris' book as part of their "welcome kits. FBI warned of white supremacists in law enforcement 10 years ago. Has anything changed No. In the United States, qualified immunity is a legal principle that grants government officials performing discretionary functions immunity from civil suits unless the plaintiff shows that the official violated "clearly established statutory or constitutional rights of which a reasonable person would have known". What we are talking about is that it does not matter if you are white or black, when police arrives they treat you just as a nail. They are the the hammer and public is the nail and they are there to nail you. There are maybe some racist police officers but this is more than just racist cops, it's the culture, training or God complex. If they treat their fellow veteran like this than public has no chance. U.S. Army Lt. Caron Nazario told Windsor City Police he was “honestly afraid to get out” of his vehicle in videos of the incident showing officers with their guns drawn during the traffic stop. A Marine veteran was tased twice by officers in his daughter's hospital room after he refused to give up personal property. He says the officers didn’t have a warrant. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nodekorum/support
A black person is killed by a police officer in America at the rate of more than one every other day. The protests have also triggered civic unrest in America at a scale not seen since the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nodekorum/support
The virus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, SARS-CoV-2, is part of a large family of coronaviruses. Coronaviruses usually cause mild to moderate upper-respiratory tract illnesses, like the common cold. However, SARS-CoV-2 can cause serious illness and even death. In high school civics we were taught that “American authoritarianism” was an oxymoron. Authoritarianism was a relic of the past. America was a country founded on freedom, steeped in equality and justice, and uniquely immune to it. It would be easy to think that the police officer is a figure who has existed since the beginning of civilization. That’s the idea on display in the proclamation from President John F. Kennedy on the dedication of the week of May 15 as “National Police Week,” in which he noted that law-enforcement officers had been protecting Americans since the nation’s birth. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nodekorum/support
