For our season 2 finale, we thought it'd be beneficial to unpack the episodes from the Education Series with you all. For this series we invited 5 very different moms who either work at a school in NYC, has a child that currently attends a NYC school, or home schooled their children here for multiple years.      Each episode was completely different in terms of knowledge base, perspective, and experience. We're extremely thankful that we were able to get such a diverse group of moms to discuss the complexities of NYC schools. Listen to this finale episode to get a high level view of what each episode offers.   And that said, this concludes season 2! From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for listening, providing NY minutes, writing reviews, and following 2 moms on a journey of seeking the good of the city and raising our kids well. Education in New York City will forever be a hot topic. This season we're exploring various school options offered to New York City kids by sitting down with adults who have first hand experiences with them. Our guests will range from parents, teachers, and administrators.     🏠  As we wrap up this Education series, we thought we'd end it with mom of two, Priscilla Pan-Walton, who's currently a Charter School Principal in Queens and a native New Yorker. Priscilla shares a bit of her experience of going to NYC public schools throughout her childhood and why she decided after many years of teaching to open up her own school. It's enlightening to hear her perspective of how Charter Schools can be a solution to failing Public Schools, her views of curriculum, and where she thinks the problem lies in NYC schools in general. We hope this series further helps you along your journey on finding the best school option for your child and family.     If you're curious about Charter schools after listening to this episode, head over to https://www.schools.nyc.gov/enrollment/enroll-in-charter-schools/how-to-enroll-in-charter-schools where you can find out more and fill out a NYC Charter School Common Application. You can also search schools that are nearby to you!                   👋 We'd love to hear from YOU! Send us a NY minute with your wildest stories to be featured on the show. This season we're exploring various school options offered to New York City kids by sitting down with adults who have first hand experiences with them. Our guests will range from parents, teachers, and administrators.     🏫 In this episode, we had the privilege of talking with Devyn Humphrey about NYC Independent Schools; otherwise known as Private Schools in other cities. Devyn has lived in New York City for well over a decade and is a proud mom to two elementary aged kids who currently attend an independent school. She does a really good job sharing how she ended up choosing this type of school since she herself grew up going to public school.     This conversation is an interesting one because Devyns job at the time gave her access to many types of schools. This assisted her in the process of applying for schools when her first child was applying to Kindergarten. After listening, we hope you walk away feeling more knowledgeable of your school options.     RECOMMENDED BOOKS:      The Family Firm by Emily Oster     Getting Into NYC Kindergarten by Alina Adams     Are you a person of color who's interested in Private/Independent Schools in NYC? We've concluded that raising kids in NYC is just different... but also being a mom here is just as nuanced. In this episode, Deidre and Gyna discuss what it's like being a mom in the Big Apple. They explore topics around identifying as a SAHM, working mom, young mom, older mom, and living in areas where you're the minority and the situations that follow.   By no means are we experts on this topic or cover every moms experience in NYC! But we thought it's was an important topic to discuss.     👋 If you're mommying here, please email us a NY minute about what your experience have been.
