It can be difficult to connect when there are differences. It can be stressful. isolating, despairing, and lonely when you are in a marriage where your spouse is not in "your corner". But the number one most destructive thing we can do in our relationship is to try to convince the other person of our point of view, but yet so many of us spend hours, years even, trying to prove a point, or win the other person over, only to end in a winner/loser situation or disappointed and resentful. For almost two decades I did this in my marriage, and while going to therapy was told we should share each other's point of view at an attempt to make each other happy. This only ended in more frustration and eventually almost losing my family for a second time.On today's podcast episode I invited Dr. Jennifer Finlayson-Fife an LDS relationship and sexuality coach with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. Her teaching and coaching focus on helping LDS individuals and couples achieve greater satisfaction and passion in their emotional and sexual relationships. She will share how she helps indivuduals and couples create healthier lives and stronger intimate relationships by finding connection in our differences. Dr. Finlayson-Fife gives this bible verse found In Matthew 10:39 a new meaning. It reads: "He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. Look at the good and the beauty instead of the lack of it” She believes this means when we choose to look at the beauty and the good in our spouse, instead of what they lack, we can loose our ego and grow stronger in who we are. Dr. Finlayson-Fife has created five empowering and highly-reviewed online courses (https://www.finlayson-fife.com/courses). Each course was designed to give LDS individuals and couples the tools requisite to creating healthier lives and stronger intimate relationships. Dr. Finlayson-Fife also offers many workshops and retreats (https://www.finlayson-fife.com/workshops) where she teaches these life-changing principles in person.Dr. Finlayson-Fife is a frequent guest on LDS-themed podcasts on the subjects of sexuality, relationships, mental health, and faith. She is also the creator and host of Room for Two (https://finlayson-fife.com/coaching/room-for-two), a popular sex and intimacy coaching podcast.
