The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode focuses on Quarterstaves and Rods, both are weapons we see in the Pillars of Eternity games. I'm focusing on them because the next weapon to be updated into Avowed in February is apparently a quarterstaff, but also might be related to magic. So to cover both bases I'm talking about both today. This episode features lore found in two unique weapons, and a bit of a dive into the Concelhaut spell "Parasitic Staff".worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week is an unorthodox episode. I don't discuss a lore topic so much as I discuss a form of roleplaying in video games that I've enjoyed since I was a youth. At the time I didn't have a name for it, but as I grew I began calling it "algorithmic roleplaying", which some have asked me about. So I made this episode to outline how it works (for me), and maybe it'll inspire you to try your own as well...worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week we conclude our look at the Knights of the Crucible, which we overviewed last week. First encountered in Pillars of Eternity, they are one of three main quest factions that you can engage with to gain clout within the city of Defiance Bay. They began as Blacksmiths trained in Combat, and were instrumental in the War of Defiance. A war which garnered the Dyrwood's independence from their mother nation, Aedyr. Now that we know their history, what are their ranks like? And how do you move up through them? That's the focus on today's episode. Thanks for listening! :)worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeoraI'm joining a new podcast! "Party Banter: an RPG Podcast" (we might work on the subtitle as we go). It's the crew of the now defunct "Avowedcast" continuing to get together, but now to discuss RPGs in general, the industry as a whole, and design elements in our favourite games.
Happy Holiday everybody! This week is an oddity.Recently, as some of you are aware, the show Avowedcast shut down, which has been a staple within the community for a while. While that show has shut down, the rest of the Avowedcast crew decided we wanted to continue podcasting, and so we began our own show "Party Banter", befitting our style and casual nature.Since it's a new project, and one I'm heavily involved in, I figured it appropriate to feature here on this feed. Don't worry it's not going to take up precious lore episodes, and I'll make sure to have a fresh batch of lore for you as soon as possible. For now though, enjoy this inaugural episode of "Party Banter", and if you'd like to get involved, please get in touch with me: worldofeora@gmail.com Thanks, and enjoy!
Knights of the Crucible episode.
This week features a special recording with the guys from Avowedcast, sans Tsora, the creator of that show, which has been in the community strong since 2020. Without it, my podcast wouldn't exist, and with the recent news that the creator was taking a step back from the internet in general, the rest of us got together for one last hurrah. Hopefully this will get posted in Avowedcast's feed, but for now, here will have to do.Thanks everyone for listening, go and check out Avowedcast, and keep your ears tuned for any new shows the rest of us nerds from that program start up in the near future!
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode looks at the connective tissue between a 2000 year old paladin order, undead knights, a cursed ship of the seas, and how easy it is to overlook the stories hidden within our favourite video games.worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week on the podcast I discuss the central lore behind Rangers as presented in the world of Eora. The BIG thing that makes a Ranger a Ranger here is the "soul-bonded animal companion". So, after researching the lore in Pillars II (Deadfire), I started wondering...can you *faithfully* play as a Ranger in Avowed, where you don't get an animal companion? Well, it turns out...there is a way.worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week we look at four of the stronghold adventures from Pillars of Eternity and discuss the lore found within. Such topics include the Pwgra creature, Brishalgwin Mindhunters, Memory-eating beetles, Ixamitl Plains folk, and more.worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week is more of a "stream of consciousness" talk, with lore discussed throughout. A looooong time ago I talked about infusing the world of Eora into tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons (specifically 5th Edition). However, what if you were playing games more in line with the OSR ("Old School Renaissance") style of play, such as Cairn, which I've recently gotten into. It's a much less measured approach, but one that seems more intuitive...and one that seems easier with Avowed, I might add.So I discuss the biggest ideas in Eora that we see in the games that need to be considered when approaching OSR style TTRPGs. This might be the first in a couple episodes dedicated to this topic, but it won't be a long-running thing, since we want to focus on different lore here over time. But I think it's valuable nonetheless.worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode I finally take a bold stance. You're playing Path of the Damned difficulty WRONG! Yeah, I said it, what you gon do about it, huh!? Nothing, that's what!Except perhaps play Avowed (and Pillars) as a devout Magranite and properly engage in the challenge PotD offers on a mental and spiritual level? Idk, Maybe... ENJOY!worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode dives into the Pillars of Eternity companion, Grieving Mother. A powerful cipher with a dark story who uses her abilities to create illusions to hide. One of the more interesting characters, especially from a writing perspective, to check out. Could Grieving Mother be in Avowed? Technically, yes, she could - but we would never know!worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode focuses on the God Totems found in Avowed, looking at the four deities associated with those totems, and how each god totem aligns with our Envoy's journey throughout the game's narrative. As well, what does it mean for your character to BE a Woedican, Skaenite, Waelite, or Galawain..ian? ite? Hope you enjoy this episode :)worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week I turn to the new weapons and armour from the latest major update (Patch 1.5) and check out some lore from those items. TO BE CLEAR I do not go through each and every item, that would be a ridiculous use of your time; but I do go through a few and explain the lore that's presented in them. The rest I'll leave for future episodes, or for curious gamers to check out themselves.worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode asks the question: "Does the Living Lands, as presented in Avowed, line up with the lore we see from Pillars of Eternity about the Living Lands?" Bit of a mouthful I know, but it's something I was wondering about in a recent playthrough. Avowed is a much more different game than Pillars of Eternity, and so the presentation of the Living Lands as a vibrant place in this fantasy world will also be different. So what I do on this episode is look at Living Lands lore from PoE1&2, and ask "Did we see something like that in Avowed?"worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
WARNING: This episode contains ***Major Spoilers*** for:AVOWEDPILLARS OF ETERNITY, andPILLARS OF ETERNITY II: DEADFIREListen at your own discretion. The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode we discuss the entity of Sapadal, which is tied closely to the narrative of Avowed, and is also connected to some major spoilers from the Pillars of Eternity games.worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode asks the question: "Can we create a Monk, in Avowed, that is lore-friendly to how we saw them in Pillars of Eternity?"worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week's episode discusses the Archmage Ryngrim, whom we read about in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, but actually get to *see* in Avowed. In Deadfire all we knew were three things: (1) she's an archmage; (2) Tayn is desperately trying to befriend her; and (3) her magic specializations seem to focus on fear-based illusion spells.worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This week I springboard of a recent Reddit post I created on r/Avowed wherein I asked you, the community, about what references do we see, in Avowed, to the Pillars of Eternity games. I had several finds of my own, but the community together easily tripled that list. This episode basically runs through that list, and why those references MATTER to us Pillars gamers, as well as the Eora world in general.worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora
The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their action RPG: Avowed. This episode ORIGINALLY started off as a "various unique items" lore episode, but it kind of turned into an episode all about Necropants, a much-beloved piece of "armor" you can acquire in Avowed. There's plenty of tangents I go on, and the lore is all over the place, but it's a fun episode. You'll wanna check this one out.worldofeora@gmail.com@worldofeorako-fi.com/worldofeora

I love this podcast so much! I am playing through Avowed right now (RL prevented me from doing so sooner) and I honestly can't get enough of it! It's so nice to find a podcast that expresses the same love/addiction that I have for this game setting. Thank you for all the hard work!
