Welcome to The Everyday Stoic Podcast where we learn about the fundamentals of life and ourselves through stoicism and all things philosophical. I’m your host, Aahil Ali. Thank you so much for deciding to take a listen to the very first episode here on The Everyday Stoic. With that said, let’s get into today’s topic which is finding our purpose.  Marcus Aurelius said “Life is short. That’s all there is to say. Get what you can from the present - thoughtfully, justly.” The three things that make up our lives are our past, present, and future. With the past being something we can no longer control, the present being what we should experience wholeheartedly, and the future that is unknown.  Living in the present will give you ability to find your purpose in life. We must ask ourselves each day: “How can I take advantage of today knowing I may not even be here tomorrow?”  We must realize our purpose in life is to add value to someone or something else. This will also help us realize that life is more fulfilling when we shift our focus towards others instead of ourselves.  In order to begin our journey we must first ask ourselves to reveal our inner most feelings. Ask yourself “Am I happy?” “Does what I do on a daily basis truly add value to my life or someone else's?”  Once we ask ourselves these questions and find what makes us happy we just have to start.  The first place to start is with ourselves by gaining self discipline. We can’t help to others if we can’t even rely on ourselves.  Finally, take it step by step and never worry about the outcome.  I have always told myself as long as I help one person I have done my duty as I live on this earth.
