In this episode, we dive headfirst into R-Type for the TurboGrafx-16—the sci-fi shooter that defined an era with its brutal difficulty, unforgettable Force pod, and influence on nearly every shoot-'em-up that followed. Google Lens eludes the collecting masses somehow...What Shmups (HE SAID IT AGAIN!) are available on Auction Alert?
I finally play a game from the Turbo Grafix-16 library that is a straight Zelda rip off! But the sequel proves to be much better! What happened to Neutopia 3? Stick It is going to a SGW that is providing very poor customer service and lists their items rather incorrectly. https://www.vgmaps.com/atlas/
I talk with author Mike Diver about the process of publishing one my favorite references, Retro Gaming: A Byte Size History of Video Games https://www.amazon.com/Retro-Gaming-Byte-sized-History-Video/dp/1912785102https://numskull.us/products/from-coin-ops-to-table-tops-the-essential-electronic-games?_pos=2&_sid=a8827206f&_ss=r
This video was a labor of love. Between game capture, voice over, "research", recording and editing, probably twenty hours? It's a look at my PS1 long box collection after collecting a third of the 102 game library. And my first video "Stick It" is going to myself! AND, on the first video Auction Alert, we check out my bookmarks on the ShopGoodwills. Cheers and Enjoy! retroprotection.com

I played the original Gameboy version and found it to be a surprising delight. Ubisoft is broke and now they have cancelled Prince of Persia Sands of Time! Project Bernard is leaked by a notabler source (whatever that means) but I add my speculation to the mix. On Auction Alert, a look at a few of the MANY Nintendo 3DS XL listings commanding Switch prices.
The first game in the "year of the Sequel" is Sega's sophmore entry of the blue blur! I finally unlock Super Sonic and find it to be a hindrance after hours of playing the special stages of the Emerald Hill Zone! Stewart Cheifet of the public television tech series The Computer Chronicles passed away and I reflect on the show and how it has influenced the podcast and modern media. I despise the term "boomer shooters" after playing another one on the PS1 Long Box livestream. Some holy grail retro consoles are up for grabs on Auction Alert!
2025 brought many things including Switch 2 and the long awaited sequels of Silksong and Metroid Prime 4. 2025 was the year of the retro Dreamcast AND the not so retro PS4. Also had some wonderful guests on the podcast and found the Wipeout series, which has become GAME OF THE YEAR!2026 looks to be a year of sequels and more long box game collecting!
Finally doing a deep dive on the Zelda clone for the Sega Genesis that has the look but not the feel of Link to the Past. I sat down with the Switch HD remake of the 2011 capstone in the Zelda franchise before the open world entries. Gone were the motion controls, but the controls still require precision. It's a bright beautiful world of Skyloft, with a watercolor aesthetic I don't much care for. https://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/wii/zelda-skyward-sword/6/4/
It's been 40 episodes since i first discovered what Parasite Eve was and am finally getting around to playing it. Unfortunately, it has me scratching my head, a term I use repeatedly, much like "mitochondria" and other unspeakable terms concerning male reproductive organs in this 1998 action RPG. A 150th episode podcast retrospective where I get to say sesquicentennial! Six jobs and countless games later, I'm still here talking retro video games!
Featuring a PS1 long box racing game with an alternative soundtrack for the alternative generation of the 90s. A game that has it's roots in Mario Kart and the electronic music of Great Britain. But after reading the manual, i end up spending twice the costr of the game to buy a controller that has a few hiccups.Auction alert features the sequel as well as some long box games that caught my eye. patreon.com/twoconsolestoolate
