Tragically, on June 2, 2018, Daniel Brophy's life was cut short when he was brutally gunned down in the kitchen of the Oregon Culinary Institute, one of the places where he felt most at home. As the investigation into Brophy's death unfolded, suspicion fell on his wife, romance novelist Nancy Crampton Brophy, who had written an essay titled "How to Murder Your Husband" years earlier.
