In this episode Matt Weber and I discuss the flaws around making a New Year’s resolution. Most people will make some form of a “resolution” this January first. The problem with this is most peoples misunderstanding of willpower. Your willpower, like a muscle, gets tired and is a very unsustainable strategy to enact permanent change. While recording this episode I make a reference to a study regarding willpower of which I had little detail. I only could remember the gist of the findings. Well, the research I was trying to explain is referred to as The Chocolate-and-Radish Experiment, a study by psychologist, Ray Baumeister. (For more detail visit this article from The Atlantic, “The Chocolate-and-Radish Experiment That Birthed the Modern Conception of Willpower” The point Matt and I are trying to make is that a decision to change without a plan is only a hope or a wish that sets up disappointment and a even a feeling of failure that can have dangerous effects on your confidence. Set a goal, make a plan and remove distractions! A look back at 2021 and a peak into 2022. The state of the market doesn’t actually matter when it comes to making your real estate career a success. In this episode I pull market highlights from NAR, Fortune, Goldman Sachs, Keeping Current Matters and others to give you a summary of where we were and a peak into where we’re going. It doesn’t change the fact that we need to build the winning habits that will ensure success in real estate.   Visit The Agent Mind online… https://theagentmind.com/   Join The Agent Mind Facebook Group… https://www.facebook.com/groups/theagentmind   Book a Call with TJ… https://calendly.com/the-agent-mind-book-tj   Learn about Joining the Team… https://theagentmind.com/contact

From the moment we decide to get our real estate license or google, “How to flip a house,” we are bombarded with peddlers of miracle products and services that promise to get the money rolling in while we sit back and enjoy life as we sip pina coladas on the beach. Okay, that’s a little bit of an exaggeration, but all of us have been suckered into buying some kind snake oil in the form of lead generation or the like. I say all this in jest of course. Not all these services are bad, and everything works with consistency. The problem lies with all the choices and the need for instant results in today’s world brought about from that little computer in our pockets! This episode talks about how distracted we all are today. Every notification beep and ringtone spark a visceral response that is robbing you of productivity! As real estate agents we often do things the hard way. Most of the time it’s unintentional, but it’s what we think we need to do. What if you could throw a party and have a business based on referrals that grows year after year? Sounds awesome to me. Jeremy Allen is a REALTOR in Virginia doing just that. All of his business comes from referrals! When it comes to working your sphere of influence, Jeremy has it dialed in. I can try to some it up like this… Throw a party, show gratitude and, most importantly, ask for referrals! You got to A. S. K. to G.E.T. This is a two-part episode. The second half is a small, but significant announcement regarding the show and I’m excited! So, be sure to stick around to the end… So often in life we find ourselves in situations of “good” stress where we are just before a moment of growth. Well, this moment is usually when Imposter Syndrome sets in and if we’re not careful, that negative self-talk gets loud. “I’m not good enough.” “I hope they don’t find me out.” “I’m going to let everyone down.”   Well, I get a little vulnerable and give you some tips on how to combat the pesky Imposter Syndrome. It’s only a thought in your own head… Thankfully, you can change your mind! *In this episode I mention a book that explains the concept of the alter ego. It’s a great read (or listen)… The Alter Ego Effect: The Power of Secret Identities to Transform Your Life Book by Todd Herman https://theagentmind.com/ https://calendly.com/the-agent-mind-book-tj https://www.facebook.com/groups/theagentmind
