We’re honored to welcome Caleb and Christina Suko, missionaries serving in Odesa, Ukraine. In the midst of an active war zone, they are providing aid, sharing the gospel with thousands of refugees, and equipping church leaders in Biblical evangelism. Confidence is everything! It lifts our head, our spirit, and our hopes. Confidence is attractive and contagious. Confidence is addictive and life-giving. John shows us how to be confident in our faith in Jesus.    Key Phrase: “…so that you may know you have eternal life.” 1 John 5:13  

Don’t believe everything you see or read. We need to filter everything through the prism of God’s truth to determine what is accurate or inaccurate. Thankfully, we have our own Truth Sensor in the Holy Spirit!   Key Phrase: “This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the  spirit of falsehood.” 1 John 4:6

Taking our eyes off Jesus will cause us to drift away spiritually, every time. Today, we are hearing stories after stories of Christians who have deconstructed their faith. But were their eyes focused on Christ of focused on people, programs, church, or problems in life. Satan will use anything to tempt us to walk away from Jesus.    Key Phrase: “I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to  lead you astray.” 1 John 2:26

Our identity begins and ends with Jesus. Growing in Him will help us purify ourselves to make Jesus proud. Satan will use every trick in the book to lead us astray.    Key Phrase: “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God.” 1 John 3:1

John tells us an old command about how and who to show God’s love to.  John then gives a new command of what NOT to love.    Key Phrase: “…love your brother and sister… love not the world.” 1 John 2:10, 15

People who say one thing but do another are called hypocrites. This is kryptonite for believers as it defiles our testimony. Words matter. Action matters more.

It can also turn people into skeptics. The Pharisees were not engaging in anything illegal or immoral within their leadership roles; instead, they were characterized by legalism, condemnation, and control. We'll cover how to respond in a healthy way to church hurt. Key Phrase: “Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus.” Mark 3:2

About this week's message: We can be so arrogant and condescending towards certain groups of people. The mercy and grace of Jesus is extended to you as well as to “those” people you might view beneath you. I love the fact that Jesus chose Matthew, one of “those” tax collectors, who would have a profound global effect for the gospel, even today! Key Phrase: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” Mark 2:16

Jesus, however, saw beyond his physical condition and wanted to heal him of his real need: the forgiveness of his sins. This declaration revealed a different kind of paralyzation within the audience: pharisaical paralyzation.   Key Phrase: “Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Mark 2:7
