In this short series, Pastor/Dr. David Murphy shows us that Christianity dominated the Western world for hundreds of years, but now the world is changing. We'll look at the ideas of three individuals who have changed the world's mindset away from God:1-Carl Marx, attacking God as ruler2-Charles Darwin, attacking God as creator3-Sigmund Freud, attacking God as the moral judge

Pastor/Dr. David Murphy continues our study of Chapter 8 and the doctrine of Eternal Security. Today, we'll see that if the previous arguments are true: that there's no condemnation for the believer, and the believer is no longer under the Law, and the believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit; then the believer is a son of God, and a son of God can enjoy the assurance of eternal security as God's heir. We'll see three of five points regarding a son of God:1-Not all are the sons of God,2-The Christian alone is a child of God, and3-How the believer became the son of God.
Pastor/Dr. David Murphy continues to discuss the Biblical Doctrine of Sanctification, or as Paul says "mortifying the body". We'll review the first two key elements to biblical sanctification:1-Understanding the truth of who you are as a Christian2-Requires action on part of the believer (we'll seenegative & positive commands)And then see two more key elements to biblical sanctification:3-The assistance of the Holy Spirit, and4-An ongoing battle until you die.

Pastor/Dr. David Murphy discusses the Biblical Doctrine of Sanctification, or as Paul says "mortifying the body". We'll first see that some popular views of sanctification are incorrect, like: the perfectionist view and the victorious life view. Then we'll see that the believer must be actively engaged in Sanctification with the following deductions:1-We must realize who we are and what is true of us as believers: a spirit that's alive, a body that is dead, and the Holy Spirit indwelling.2-Our unredeemed body is the source of our sin problem. We must master and control it.3-We have no obligation to the flesh or to live after it.4-All that pursue the flesh will die, and all that the flesh can offer is death.5-The only obligation the believer has is to the Spirit, Who has a ministry in the believer's life pre-conversion, conversion, and post-conversion. Pre-conversion the Holy Spirit strives, retrains, and convicts the sinner.Post-conversion the Holy Spirit regenerates the believer, baptizes the believer into the body of the church, intercedes for the believer, produces fruit in the believer, and sanctifies the believer.Sanctification involves the working of both the believer and the Holy Spirit in partnership.

Even though presently, the believer's body still has a sinful nature, in the future, the believer's body is going to be redeemed with the same type of bodily resurrection that Christ had. All parts of the Trinity are involved in this resurrected body. Our resurrection is guaranteed because: 1) Paul's repetitious way of writing in verse 11, 2) what God starts He finishes (Phil 1:6), 3) we are no longer in Adam but in Christ and will experience what Christ experienced (Rom 5), 4) Christ is the first fruits of that which is to come, and the next resurrection is that of the believers (1 Cor 15:20-23), and 5) our deliverance of sin and consequences would not be complete apart from the resurrection of the body (Rom 8:22-23). The body will be raised and changed with a recognizable identity. This is our heritage and our glorious future!

If the believer walks in the Spirit and not the flesh, then why does the believer still sin? Pastor Murphy will show us that the although the believer's spirit is life (because of the righteousness of Christ), the body is dead to God (because of the implanted sinful nature). The sin nature is not eradicated at salvation; the believer must still conquer the sinful things that the flesh wants him to do. Only in the future, will the believer's body be redeemed.

Pastor/Dr. David Murphy will review and give more insight into God's intention that the redeemed person is to live a holy and righteous life. Then he'll describe the identification of the redeemed person, who does not walk in the flesh but in the Spirit. Walking in the flesh is the pursuit of things of the flesh (mentioned in Galatians 5:16-21), and its consequence is death. But walking in the Spirit, means the believer is under the control and direction of the Holy Spirit, which leads to life and peace.

In this verse we'll see God's intention for sending His Son to die for us was that the righteousness of the Law would be fulfilled in us. We interpret this through 1-Justification, which produces righteousness (obedience to God's revealed will), and 2-Sanctification, which produces holiness.
