For 105 days, Bilyaminu was held captive by kidnappers. During that time, his family tried everything they could to raise the ransom demanded, including putting up their houses and farms for sale. But this proved very difficult because of Nigeria's Naira redesign policy at that time.
This episode of #VestigesOfViolence goes back to Nigeria's cash crunch period where in a bid to curtail terrorism financing, the Central Bank of Nigeria, introduced new policies. We examine the policy's success as survivors like Maimuna spent days in captivity until ransom was paid.
In this episode of #VestigesOfViolence, we tell the story of Umar, a Fulani man who suffered several terrorist attacks on his village, and then saw his own community turn on him for no other reason than his identity.
