Have you ever wondered if the Bible, in particular the Gospels, is reliable? Can they be put to the historical test and withstand scrutiny? Dr. Jeff is joined by J. Warner Wallace, who is a best-selling author, a Summit Faculty member, a professor, and a cold-case detective. He uses his unique skills and experience to showcase the reliability of the Bible and the redemptive story of Jesus in his updated and revised book, Cold-Case Christianity (Updated & Expanded Edition): A Homicide Detective Investigates the Claims of the Gospels. Dr. Jeff is joined by Summit Ministries' new Program Director, Kasey Leander, to discuss what many will see as the surprising openness of Gen Z to hearing and learning more about God, as evidenced by research that found one-third of 18-to-25 year-olds are more open than not about the existence of a higher power. Leander offers evidence from his own experience evangelizing on college campuses that the rising generation is longing for answers to their biggest questions. And open to hearing about Jesus in pursuit of those answers. The key in witnessing to them, he says, is to recognize and act on the truth that outrage is not a strategy, and to lead with a question when aiming to start a God conversation.  Listen to every episode of the Dr. Jeff Show wherever you listen to podcasts. College football fans have welcomed Emmy Award-winning ESPN sideline reporter Lauren Sisler into their homes weekly since 2016. But the popular journalist known for asking insightful questions and for the viral videos of her dancing her signature “Sideline Shimmy” shielded a tragic secret behind her smile for nearly two decades: Her mother and father died within hours of each other, victims of their hidden battle with prescription-drug addiction. She discusses with Dr. Jeff how the truths she’s learned from that harrowing experience have allowed her to use her pain to help others overcome theirs. Those are the insights she also shares in her upcoming book, Shatterproof: How I Overcame the Shame of Losing My Parents to Opioid Addiction (and Found My Sideline Shimmy). How can an ancient faith stand the test of time in light of science, history, and philosophy? Tom Rudelius, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, asked a similar question. Tom encourages listeners not to be afraid of questions, as Christianity is a worldview that is both intellectually compelling and experientially satisfying. He shares his story of how he followed the evidence, which led to Christianity, and found a story that he could live by. Listen to every episode of the Dr. Jeff Show wherever you listen to podcasts. In a culture that tells us to look inside ourselves, speak our truth, and just be ourselves, the Christian narrative is a beacon of truth and light. Jesus calls us to deny ourselves and find our foundational identity in him. This refocus leads to an abundant life. Rob Jackson, a licensed counselor with Focus on the Family, shares what a healthy identity, sexuality, and purpose look like.  Listen to every episode of the Dr. Jeff Show wherever you listen to podcasts. Dr. Bob Paul, vice president of the Focus on the Family Marriage Institute, explains what marriage is and shouldn't be in this discussion with Dr. Jeff Myers which may surprise some people. He acknowledges that one of the reasons young people of faith today may not want to wed is tied to the poor examples provided by some older married believers – who fail to let God direct their marriages in the righteous way he wishes. "The most common reason for divorce is 'irreconcilable differences,'" Dr. Paul explains. "But differences are never the problem in marriage. They are designed by God on purpose with purpose" to help us grow our character and Christlikeness as individuals who then help our spouses do the same.  Listen to every episode of the Dr. Jeff Show wherever you listen to podcasts. The stories we tell ourselves and believe shape our goals, priorities, and what the good life looks like. Throughout the Gospels, we see Jesus telling others about the truth through stories and examples. He knew that to transform individuals, they must see themselves as part of the Christian grand story of reality. Kevin and Sam Sorbo join Dr. Jeff to discuss the centrality of storytelling and how it profoundly influences culture and individuals. They share the tremendous work they’ve been doing in producing quality films, books, and podcasts that are unafraid to share the truth and God's vision for a flourishing life. For eight years, beginning when he was still a college student, Jameson Broggi worked tirelessly to get the South Carolina state legislature to pass the Reinforcing College Education on America’s Constitutional Heritage (REACH) Act. Signed into law in April '21, the REACH ACT requires all South Carolina college students to take a three-credit-hour class on the U.S. Constitution, Declaration of Independence and the Federalist Papers to graduate.  He and Dr. Jeff Myers discuss why he pushed so hard for the legislation and the impact it can have. "People aren't born knowing these things," Broggi says. "They must be taught and learned." And when they are, as Dr. Jeff explains, the results can change the electorate in a generation. In South Carolina every year, about 21,000 college students now take a class on America’s founding documents because of Broggi's work. And other states are currently considering similar legislation.  Listen to every episode of the Dr. Jeff Show wherever you listen to podcasts.  For more from Dr. Jeff on YouTube visit http://bit.ly/3flbj2j  For more resources from Summit Ministries visit their Resource Library at www.summit.org/resources/
Glenn Lutjens, a marriage and family counselor at Focus on the Family, talks with Dr. Jeff about the way in which he offers wisdom to couples rooted in caring for their bodies, minds, souls and spirits. He explains how psychiatrists like Sigmund Freud championed an approach that removed the spiritual focus from the equation and why doing so has often resulted in incomplete and insufficient assistance being offered to couples struggling in their marriages. Restoring the spiritual element to counseling couples, he explains, allows both husband and wife to embrace their God-designed roles as spouses. In this second episode in which he recounts his visit to Israel in the midst of its war with Hamas, Dr. Jeff Myers unpacks the complexities of subjects like just war theory and what Christians can do to help restore peace to the land where Jesus lived. He explains that Hamas attacked Israel not to achieve a military objective, but to achieve its long-stated goal to eradicate its enemy nation and notes how Israel engages the conflict from the exact opposite position: seeking only to defend itself while limiting civilian casualties when at all possible.  He points out that Gaza, ruled by Hamas, has received 15 times the aid it cost to rebuild Europe after World War II and says believers need to understand the motives of Hamas and how they are driving the brutal war or they risk being part of "a conspiracy of ignorance." In this special episode, Dr. Jeff Myers recounts details from his recent trip to Israel with a group of multifaith leaders amid the nation's war with Hamas. He explains why he was flummoxed by research that shows the rising generation knows Hamas is a terrorist group, but still sympathizes with its attack on Israel because of Palestinian grievances. He also speaks movingly of visiting the sights of bombings and burnings and seeing horrifying images or the murders of Israeli citizens and says he felt it important to experience because "In order to teach truth well, I have to immerse myself in an experience." He summarizes his trip as making crystal clear a truth we all must understand: The attack on Israel is not a geopolitical conflict but a geotheological one, in which those who stand for a biblical worldview have been attacked by those who stand against God. How, as followers of Jesus, can we be in the culture but not of the culture? We know that our allegiance is to King Jesus, however, this does not mean we should ignore the culture around us. We are to live as sons and daughters of God's light (Ephesians 5:8) in a world filled with darkness.  But how do we properly discern how and when to engage with cultural movies, stories, songs, or topics? Listen in as Dr. Jeff talks with Adam Holz from Focus on the Family's Plugged In.
