In this podcast we speak with Michael (a teacher), Amiah & Samara (students) from Ballymakenny College, Drogheda, Co. Louth who are on a 2 week Global Citizenship Education placement in Uganda with Nurture Africa, exploring the root causes of poverty. Today, they had the opportunity to speak with healthcare workers who are providing treatment for, and families who are living with HIV.
Shane (teacher) and students Sophia, Bobby and Markuss talk about their experience in Uganda and their thoughts on education after spending a day interacting with staff and students from a primary school and vocational training centre in Uganda.
5 staff and 19 students from Ballymakenny College in Drogheda travelled to Nurture Africa Headquarters in Uganda on a Global Citizen Education Programme, exploring the route causes of poverty. In this opening episode we speak with staff members Nicola and Tara just a few hours after the group arrived in Nansana.

In this episode, Peter and Liam from Ballymakenny College in Drogheda, Co. Louth, share their thoughts after visiting the Childs I Foundation in Kampala. Here we learnt about the dangers and negative impacts that institutionalisation has on children; of whom, 80-90% globally, have at least one living parent. We also learnt how well intentioned volunteering in orphanages, can result in more harm to these children than good.
