The official list is nonsense. video games are not movies they are far far more iterative and as such you quite regularly have sequels completely outshining previous games and franchises. the gameplay is better in future releases by any objective measure period. sorry but outside of I want my list to be precious there is just no chance in hell if you gave 10 people the original metal gear to play and metal gear solid 4 that they're going to go with the original metal gear.

There are many games that'll be developed that year, but there's no guarantee that they'll be actually good.
