Seun Kuti is the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. He has spent most of his life preserving and extending his father's political and musical legacy as the leader of his father's former band Egypt 80. For this 5th episode of the second season of Syos rendez-vous: the podcast for curious musicians, we are inviting Daro Behroozi and Rogerst Charles from the brass band Lucky Chops! Lucky Chops has been unleashing high-energy brassy funk on the world since forming in NYC in 2006. In a couple of months, they went from the subway station to the biggest concert halls around the world! The intensity of the band’s energy is fueled by their desire to share the healing and inspirational power of music with others. The band members are also committed to music education, regularly performing clinics and educational outreaches to help train and inspire the next generation of musicians. For this 4th episode of the second season of Syos rendez-vous: the podcast for curious musicians, we are inviting Neal Sugerman, musician and co-founder of a music label. Neal Sugarman is the tenor saxophone player in the Dap-Kings band and a co-owner of Daptone Records with Gabriel Roth founded in 2001. Neal also has a Soul jazz project called The Sugarman 3, a band that predates SJDK and was a major impetus for Neal and Gabe Roth (Bosco Mann) to start Daptone Records together. Dap-Dippin’ and The Sugarman 3’s Pure Cane Sugar were the label’s first and second LP releases and they were shipped from Neal’s kitchen table. Most aspiring professional musicians dream of their music being signed by a great record label. But what is a label? How does it work? What are the differences between major and independent label records? How to approach them if you want your music to be released on a label? Together, during an hour, we will answer all these questions and have a look at the current state of the music industry with Neal. Musician, saxophone teacher, composer, he travels around the world performing and creating many projects to help promote cross-cultural understanding and introduce thousands to America’s indigenous art form, through public concerts, master classes, and jam sessions. He founds “Experience Ayiti” in 2016, a nonprofit educational multidisciplinary arts organization and in February 2019, his debut album as a leader, Global, was released. We go on once again with our analysis of music teaching in the world: music school vs. collective learning. We will discuss how music impacts the educational experience of children, the creation of opportunities for civic collaboration, and community development. Welcome in the Second Season of our podcast: A Syos rendez-vous! While our first season focused more on each musician and is/her sound, this new season will focus on all the information and tools musicians need to develop their carreer.  We invite great musicians, label owners, sound engineers, music teachers, to talk about technique and music business. For this first episode, we are pleased to welcome the great saxophonist and teacher Rick Margitza. Musician who has played with Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Eddie Gomez, Tony Williams, and many others and has released numerous records on Blue Note, Challenge Records or more recently Le Coq records. Welcome and thank you for tuning in to the very first ever Syos podcast.  In this new podcast we want to learn everything about the sound. How would you describe your sound? Our guest today is classical sax player Jordan Reed whose Signature mouthpiece for alto saxophone released last year. Jordan is an active performer, educator in classical, jazz and modern styles.
