Something different! We visit the Fête of Britain to investigate the future of democracy, a giant ear, a UN marble run, a Brian Eno audio-visual-scape and the sounds of Manchester's finest on the LOWD Soundsystem...  This is an invitation to musicians, creatives, organisers, activists and anyone who wishes they could fix up the world a bit. We all know the problems. This event was about the solutions. Hope, imagination, mobilisation and our collective potential to ✨ the future. Soul, power and spirit ✨ · Ayan is an activist, advocate, poet and founder of Voicing Voices, an equity consultancy with a special focus on intersectionality and identity based discrimination. · We first worked together on a youth voices event at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Watching her put an arm round the shoulder of a teenage girl to give her a pep talk before they want on stage together was a very special moment. · Her musical selections are soulful, spiritual and lyrical. Cooking up something special! • Jess is a Bristolian raver, a traveller and a passionate advocate for migrants and refugees. I've known her nearly 20 years, since she arrived at my primary school from Scotland, and we've been friends ever since.  • She's always been politically aware and unafraid to challenge what she thinks is wrong. Seeing her found Migrateful, a cooking school led by migrant and refugee chefs, and take it from strength to strength has made me very proud! • Her musical selections span 5 countries - England, Ireland, Mexico, Senegal and America - each with a story to tell. • Songs from: ♫ Shy FX - Shake Your Body ♫ The Gloaming - The Lobster ♫ Elvis Crespo - Suavamente  ♫ Amadou & Mariam - Sénégal Fast Food ♫ Nina Simone - Everything Must Change • Intro music by Ralph TV. • Follow on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/makingmovements.world/ • ✊🎵

Songs from Santiago! • Esther is a proud santiaguina, an agricultural engineer, a feminist and above all else - a lifelong Scout. I met her from the other side of the world, in lockdown, when Chile was emerging from massive social riots and beginning the process of rewriting their constitution.  • She's an incredibly warm, open, optimistic person who dedicates her spare time to The Scouts, so that children can share some of the experiences which changed her life when she was their age.   • Her musical selections span 60's psychedelia, female-empowering latin pop and one track so chill it makes the world pause.  • Songs from: ♫ The Beatles - Lucy In The  Sky With Diamonds  ♫ Bebe - Ella ♫ Hosier - Almost (Sweet Music) ♫ Ben Howard - Promise ♫ Cat Empire - Hello   • Intro music by Ralph TV. • Follow on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/makingmovements.world/ • Subscribe for more episodes coming soon ✊🎵

An honour and a privilege! • George is a young social care leader and an advocate of life! I saw him speak at a conference for special educational needs specialists years ago. I think he was still in uni, or had just left, but I remember thinking he held the stage like a prime minister. • He talks about Nina Simone and Van Morrison, being the first ever wheelchair user at both his schools, the only song he knows written from the perspective of a person with a disability, and what he loves (despite everything he hates) about social care. • He’s also a forensic listener of song lyrics, which is useful for me as they don’t seem to go into my head... • Songs from: Dick Gaughan - What You Do with What You Got Nina Simone - I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free Laura Marling - Once Van Morrison - Dweller On The Threshold Satisfied Mind - Hal Ketchum • Intro music by Ralph TV. • Follow on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/makingmovements.world/ • Subscribe for more episodes coming soon ✊🎵

Sounds from South Africa!  • I spoke to Sethu Zantsi, physiotherapist and founder of Amped, an NGO supporting children who’ve experienced limb amputations. When I first heard her passion for the amazing, resilient children she meets through her work, I had to invite her to be a part of Making Movements.  • We spoke about family, community, the legacy of apartheid, self care and how she found her purpose. Thank you Sethu for sharing your story and always reminding me that I have a posh accent.   • Sethu’s five song choices are upbeat and inspiring, from the father of South African jazz Hugh Masekela to that one by Toploader... • Music: ♫ Hugh Masekela, Thanayi ♫ John Mayer, Waiting On The World To Change ♫ Sia, Bird Set Free ♫ Toploader, Dancing In The Moonlight ♫ American Authors, Best Day Of My Life  • Intro music by Ralph TV. • Follow on instagram https://www.instagram.com/makingmovements.world/ • Subscribe for more episodes coming soon ✊🎵

This one was emotional! • I spoke to Alya Harding, who is wise and dedicated beyond her years. Before leaving university she was already working as an activist, campaigner against FGM, and Nominee for Young European of the Year 2021. • We talk about family love, dismantling negative stereotypes and the passion she draws from the courageous and resilient black women in her life. • Alya’s five song choices were sweet and soulful, and she shared why each one means so much. • Music: ♫ Mary Mary, Shackles ♫ Jasmine Sullivan, Dream big ♫ India Arie, Get it together ♫ Jill Scott, Golden ♫ Seinabo Sey, Breathe ♫ RAY BLK, Mama • Intro music by Ralph TV.  • Follow on instagram https://www.instagram.com/makingmovements.world/ • Subscribe for more episodes coming soon ✊🎵
