Dan & Manny put the 1993 Pauly Shore classic Son in Law to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“This whole movie, all of Son in Law, all of [Pauly Shore’s] f***ing dialogue is just gibberish. It's just gibberish the whole time, and I'm just like, how can this be a film?”
-Dan Dissinger
Dan & Manny are without their longtime friend and cohost Billy to try and solve the pop-culture mystery that is Pauly Shore’s 90s fame. How did it happen? Why did it happen? Are we to blame for all his movies? These are the types of questions the guys try to figure out while literally avoiding talking about Son in Law. In fact, there are so many tangents in this episode that it should be called “181. Trips to Ithaca, Gravity Bongs, & Other Fragmented Memories.” Dan & Manny talk about the absolute gibberish of Pauly Shore’s dialogue, the unanswered for crimes in this movie, Tiffani Thiessen, and the mom in Son in Law just on the prowl for the “D.”
So, grab some “grindage,” your best “buuuuuudddiiies,” and get ready for some “cheek chillers,” because this episode might not even be a podcast, it’s an event.

Dan & Manny put the 2003 Spike TV classic MXC (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge) to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“Everyone dies or has diarrhea after this show [...] They're throwing up [...] things are coming outta their nose, their eyes [...] I hope there's a medic. They should have had [...] a part of a show where they showed [contestants] being wrapped up.”
-Manny
This episode is just as unhinged as the show itself, which says a lot about how out of bounds MXC (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge) was in 2003. Dan & Manny watch one episode from three different seasons for this test, and unfortunately, they are without Billy on this one, but he does make a special texting appearance later, so all those Billy fans will get their fix. Dan & Manny try to figure out once and for all if this show was just a bunch of captive human beings trying to make their way home, is this show racist, why was there such a dubbing craze in the early 2000s, Spike TV being okay with low budget nonsense, and so much more. The main question about MXC, did anyone die during the making?
So, get out your chain wallets, put a short-sleeved shirt over a long-sleeved shirt, crack open a Sprite Remix, and “DON’T GET ELIMINATED!” This is a fun one.

Dan & Manny welcome Author Ross Benes to discuss his book 1999 The Year Low Culture Conquered America and Kickstarted Our Bizarre Times.
“I chose [19]99 out of all the years because it was just the wildest and most wackadoodle year of [the 90s]. You can write a similar book on 98 [...] but I think 99 is just a little more insane in the membrane.”
-Ross Benes
This episode of Nostalgia 101 author Ross Benes takes Manny & Dan to school on all things 1999. His book 1999 The Year Low Culture Conquered America and Kickstarted Our Bizarre Times seems to have foreseen the times we find ourselves in and might hold key answers to some off questions about the cultural pickle we’re attempting to escape. They go from unpacking the impact of The Jerry Springer Show to The Insane Clown Posse, Juggalos, and Beanie Babies to Y2K, Napster, and the oversaturate porn industry.
This is the exact type of episode that The Nostalgia Test Podcast is built for and ross Benes more than delivered. Get Ross’ book. It’s the sort of pop-culture analysis that satisfies the academic audience, general fandom audience, and the high-strung 90s fanatic. Oh, and he gives us a really great Rocky franchise ranking.
So, grab your Trapper Keepers and pens, throw some scratch-and-sniff stickers on the pages, and get ready to learn something about the most important year of the 90s.

Dan, Manny, & Billy pull the curtain back on the podcast on this Nostalgia Test Mini Episode & put several Nostalgia Test Tangents to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“What the f**k is this podcast about anymore?”
-Dan
Right before the gang recorded 168. Nostalgia Test Now! ZombieCon Vol.1, they had this tangent filled conversation that started at Legos and made a full-circle return to Legos, all while covering nostalgic topic after nostalgic topic. This is what happens when Dan hits the record button early and they just let it fly. It’s an intimate look behind the curtain of 3 longtime friends hanging out.
So, sit back and hangout with Dan, Manny, & Billy “backstage.”

“Yo! 2026, Nostalgia Test declares love is dead.”
-Billy

Dan, Manny. & Billy put the 1993 Bill Murray comedy mind f**k Groundhog Day to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“There's a quote that [Bill Murray] says, he's like, I killed myself so many times. I don't even exist anymore.”
-Manny
Well, the groundhog saw his shadow yesterday which means 6 more weeks of winter! You know what that means campers, “rise and shine! And don’t forget your booties ‘cause it’s cold out there today.” This was a really fun episode, and the guys get into so many of the layered rumors, conspiracies, multiverses, and quotables from this classic 1993 comedy. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll get confused, and you’ll feel like it’s happening over and over again. People, this is what nostalgia is all about, chillin with your best friends and making up alternate universes for a movie late into the night.
So grab your favorite furry friend, invite a group of nerds over, and grab a hot toddy, because there’s 6 more weeks of winter and The Nostalgia Test Podcast is going nowhere.

Dan & Manny welcome NYC based Producer Christopher Aguis (and Dan’s cousin) to put the 1991Vanilla Ice “movie” Cool as Ice to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“If you ever hear of a tape that kills you in seven days, watch it on repeat. Watch it instead of [Cool as Ice].”
-Manny
Dan, Manny and their guest Chris embark on a ridiculous 90s misadventure and attempt to make sense of Vanilla Ice’s action/musical/comedy/uncomfortably psychedelic “movie” Cool as Ice. Seven months after dancing his way through Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze, someone that we all needed more Vanilla, when in reality no one needs or wants more vanilla. The gang tries to unpack the so-called plot of the movie, what’s going on in this insane town, the confusing and intricate cinematography by the world-renowned and award-winning Janusz Kamiński, and what’s up with that scene where Vanilla is feeding ice cubes to a teenage girl after he breaks into her bedroom? There’s also the signature Nostalgia Test Tangents, Rocky Ranking, and Chris & Dan reminisce going to see the Ninja Turtles in concert on their “Coming Out of Our Shells” tour.
So grab your parachute pants, shave some lines in the side of your head, and drop those zeroes to get with the Nostalgia Test heroes, because this one is peak 90s.

Dan, Manny, & Billy welcome back Matt Landis to put the 90s classic The Crow & its soundtrack to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“I mean, that might be the most tragic thing about the legacy of this film, not Brandon [Lee] dying, but the inception of Jared Leto.” -Matt Landis
Matt Landis returns after his unbelievable appearance on episode 135.🏫 Nostalgia 101: 90s Swing Revival & Punk Ideology to do a dep dive into the 1994 action/horror film The Crow starring the late Brandon Lee, Ernie Hudson, Michael Wincott, & the incomparable Bai Ling. There’s a huge takedown of Jared Leto, a lovefest for Ernie Hudson, and the guys go through some of their favorite scenes and one-liners. Also, what’s up with Ernie Hudson’s apartment décor?! There’s also some amazing tangents about the emotional depth of Grunge music, the ridiculous money grabbing objectification of nostalgia by Hollywood, and let’s get into Blade Runner for no reason at all.
The guys also take time to discuss the soundtrack to The Crow and its impact and legacy. In the end they put the movie and the music to the ultimate test and have some fun dunking on the unsuccessful sequels and the horribly insulting reboot. And we can’t forget the Jean-Claude Van Damme tangent!
So, grab your corpse paint, pull out your favorite trashcan for a classic 80s/90s trashcan fire, and get ready to have a dark and fun time with your longtime friends Dan, Manny, & Billy.

Dan & Billy welcome back longtime friend & Nostalgia Test Podcast Allstar Jeremy Madson to put Metallica's Saint Anger & Some Kind of Monster to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“I think we all went through that period where you tried to convince yourself that you liked [Saint Anger] before you eventually came to the point where like, oh, f***, it sucks.”
-Billy
We’re starting 2026 with an episode that’s been 23 years in the making. Ever since Metallica dropped Saint Anger and Some Kind of Monster in 2003 Dan, Billy, & Jeremy have been on a serendipitous nostalgic road to this conversation, this nostalgia test, this very moment where they unpack the total disillusionment they endured when this album came out. This is that moment. They talk about the impact of the documentary, the ego that is Lars, how James Hetfiled’s time in rehab, and the cool demeanor of Kirk Hammett. they also talk about the unceremonious way Jason Newstead was treated and the dumpster fire Rob Trujillo walked into when he was hired.
So, grab your best metalhead friends, put on your favorite band shirt, and crack open a Bud heavy, because this one is for the real Metallica fans who aren’t trying to rewrite the history that’s the Saint Anger album.

Dan, Manny, & Billy invite longtime friend Dave Kucich back on the pod to put the 1947 Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“The plot [of Miracle on 34th Street], is basically there’s a guy who's nice to everyone [and] everyone is just very weirded out by that. Like he is just a nice dude, he knows how to speak Dutch, he's nice to the kids, he's helping people out, he's anti-capitalism. He's all these things, and everyone's like, f*** this guy.”
-Dan
Happy Holidays! This episode is so much fun. It’s a classic Nostalgia Test Podcast tangent episode full of Christmas hot takes, deep dives into favorite scenes and odd 1940s behavior, and the guys finally crack the case on whether Santa is real or not. And it wouldn’t be an episode of The Nostalgia Test Podcast without that Long Island ball busting you’ve come to love on the pod. Plus, you’re going to want to hear all the Santa Claus conspiracies, Christmas traditions, calling out creepy guys, and all while their other longtime friend Steve Herrera is driving to Taco Bell.
So finish your letter to Santa, grab some beer and cookies, and invite your favorite elves over to party because hanging with The Nostalgia Test is going to be your new Christmas tradition.

Dan, Manny, & Billy welcome Erin Áine & Kyle Valle to talk all about the indie filmmaking journey behind their movie ZombieCon Vol.
“Sometimes people are a**holes, [and] then they turn into zombies.” -Dan
This is the second part of the ZombieCon Vol.1 two-parter, and it’s a Nostalgia 101 for the books. Erin Áine & Kyle Valle answer all the guys’ questions about the making of ZombieCon, some of the insane moments in the film, and they even let them behind the curtain of some of the reasons for their creative choices. They also answer questions that Dan collected from Instagram and TikTok, and they even let us in on some production secrets and upcoming projects. If you’re an aspiring filmmaker or just someone that loves a good indie-horror zombie flick, this episode is just for you, we promise. Oh! And Billy gets super nerdy with Erin and Kyle about their favorite anime.
So, put your holiday spirit on hold, grab a cold beverage and a snack, and why not put on your best cosplay outfit because this episode it all sorts of Nostalgia Test Nerdiness.
And if you’re looking for the perfect gift for the horror nerds in your life, order a copy of ZombieCon Vol.1 and some really awesome merch on their website.
A group of cosplaying friends trigger a zombie apocalypse and are forced to traverse a zombie-infested Los Angeles to save their loved one.

Dan, Manny, & Billy put the 2024 American Horror/Comedy/Action film ZombieCon Vol.1 to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST (NOW)!
“I'd be like, ‘Yo mom, there's f***ing zombies.’”
-Manny
In a world where ridiculously predictable legacy sequels, horrible reboots, and half-assed IP superhero movies are suffocating the movie watching experience, indie movies are fighting the good fight to save cinema! ZombieCon Vol.1 is a fun-filled horror/comedy/action film that will become your next favorite midnight cult classic for every Halloween cosplay party. The boys dive into it and give it the ball-busting Nostalgia Test treatment. They celebrate this movie the only way 3 dudes from Long Island know how: TO ROAST THE HELL OUT OF IT! The talk about learning what cosplay cons are all about, the importance of character deaths in horror movies, the hilarious Pop-Punk soundtrack during kill scenes, and the fun of an indie Zombie movie. This is part 1 of a 2-parter on ZombieCon, so make sure to follow the podcast to hear the interview with the director Kyle Valle & writer/actor Erin Áine on December 16th.
So, get your best friends over to the house, dress up like your favorite characters, and turn the ball busting up to level ten!

On today’s special Nostalgia Mini episode, Dan, Manny, & Billy spin The Nostalgia Test Wheel to see what classic Christmas movie they’ll put to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“Welcome to Jurassic Park. Um, I mean, Merry Christmas.”
-Billy
The guys introduce the Nostalgia Test Wheel to the pod to pick which movie they’ll watch for the annual Christmas episode. They year’s movie will be either Charlie Brown’s Christmas, A Muppet’s Family Christmas (TV Special), March of the Wooden Soldiers, Scrooge (1951), Miracle on 34th Street, or It’s a Wonderful Life. The boys also can’t stop themselves from other tangents like the announcement of a sequel to Heat with Leonardo DiCaprio, taxes, Gen X’s obsession with everyone being able to do math on the spot, and so much more.
So grab a strong hot toddy, throw on the yule log, and get cozy with The Nostalgia Test Wheel, because it’s going to make a lot more appearances in 2026 (we’re available for parties people!)

Dan, Manny, & Billy invite friend & fan of the pod Meghan P. Nolan back to put the 1984 sci-fi/action classic The Terminator to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“There was no purpose to [Linda Hamilton’s] boobs being out.” -Meghan
What a way to kick off the Holiday Season! If there was an episode that defines the what The Nostalgia Test Podcast is all about, it’s this one! There is more conversation about Arnold Schwarzenegger’s naked ass, awkward sex scenes with useless boobs, how this whole movie is just about a son from the future getting there time traveling virgin father laid, and what’s wrong with people that have lizards as pets in a movie where a murderous cyborg kills more people than has spoken words of dialogue. Oh! And let’s not forget the gang trying to figure out how anyone in the future is having sex at all on top of and underneath skulls and sheets of metal. And sure, they talk about Arnold, the explosions, the guns, and try to solve the time traveling paradoxes of this film.

On today’s Thanksgiving special, we’ve invited our podcast family over for a nostalgic potluck of go to Thanksgiving movies & side dishes to put to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“Thanksgiving is a sides holiday.”
-Dan
This is a jam-packed Nostalgia Test holiday classic filled with amazing movies, food, and plenty of technical difficulties to go around. And if you’re watching this on Substack or YouTube, Dan’s internet literally erased his image from the whole episode. His voice is there, but he’s a ghost. Dan, Manny, & Billy set the tone for what makes a good Thanksgiving movie, why Thanksgiving is a side dish holiday, & they put their foot down on turkey being overrated, especially white meat. Total trash. Podcasters from all over the pop-culture podcast-sphere send in their takes on what good Thanksgiving movie is and they bring a dish to couple with their choice. The movies go from My Cousin Vinny, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, slasher films like Thanksgiving & Blood Rage, and heartwarming family films like Home for the Holidays & Avalon, and so many more. It’s a real family affair on The Nostalgia Test Podcast.
So grab your hungover cousins and go for a “walk” (if you know, you know), load up on cheap drinks and rich food, and dive into the only podcast to bring Thanksgiving back!

On today’s special Nostalgia Mini episode, Manny shares a harrowing air travel story and puts Delta Airlines to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“In my head, I survived the crash, and all I needed to do is figure out how to keep Marty out of the water and get my wife onto the floating device.”
-Manny
In the spirit of Thanksgiving and gratitude, Manny recounts flying home from Dublin when suddenly there’s catastrophic engine failure. That’s right! He goes over how the flashing of his life was kind of disappointing, the strict laws about dogs in Iceland, his plane for surviving the freezing ocean, and the almost insane amount of professionalism and calm of the in-flight crew. Dan has a little fun with on this episode by adding a nostalgic soundtrack to his story around the minute 10. Make sure your tray tables are in the upright and locked position, your seatbelts are securely fastened, and all devices are on airplane mode because this is a good one!

Dan, Manny, & Billy put a list of 6 cartoon theme songs to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“Thundercats was my thing.”
-Manny
Dan surprises Manny & Billy with a weird list of cartoon theme songs which all leads to the funniest reaction to M.C. Hammer’s “Pumps and a Bump” music video. You can watch the full episode on Substack. The list of theme songs include:
Batman: The Animated Series
Beetlejuice
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Hammerman
I. Joe
Filmation Ghostbusters
For an episode that started with a few technical difficulties, this has to be one of the best of 2025! It’s full of childhood memories, tangents, and hot takes, plus you get to see M.C. Hammer “dance” in a banana hammock. Who wouldn’t want to see that (on Substack). So get your friends together, put on your favorite cartoon themed pajamas, and set up those G.I. Joes to do battle, because this is going to blow your minds.

Dan, Manny, & Billy put New Found Glory’s Self-Titled pop-punk-emo “classic” to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!
“New Found Glory shoots their load on the first five songs of this album.”
-Billy
WARNING! This episode is a brutal takedown & nostalgic epiphany, so if you’re sensitive to hearing your favorite band be taken to task then listen still and email us your opinions to thenostalgiatest@gmail.com. We also have a special audience member/guest who was on the Little Monsters episode, Andrew Breen (rocktapusjones). Theres so much talk about what it means to be a “classic” band, the groups we have to leave behind, and the ridiculous things that happen hanging out past 2am. Nostalgia definitely doesn’t mean that things are good, and the guys get into that as well, and is emo-pop-punk a whole genre of dudes who were friend zoned, maybe. This gets talked about and so much more.
So grab your oldest Warped Tour t-shirt, prep your voice for some unadulterated screaming, get ready to cry your heart out about that high school crush that “didn’t want to ruin the friendship,” and join us on a nostalgic walk down a 2000s memory lane.
